Colvin also started out the year as a liability defensively. He was also just a true freshman on a dominant team. By the end of the year, his defense was vastly improved and he carved himself out a consistent role within the rotation. He was also efficient and shot the hell out of the 3 ball. Now he gets to step into a major opportunity and will have every chance to break out, especially with how Purdue is going to change their system and be oriented more around floor spacing and driving lanes, which is especially beneficial to the athleticism of Colvin and Heide

Unless Braden can become a primary 3 level scorer I’m not sure how high the ceiling is for this team. Yes Painter is an elite coach and yes smith can set the table with his passing. But I’m not seeing how the offense can reach its ceiling without Edey creating doubles and no one becoming a primary scorer. Only way I see is if 1 of Colvin or Heide makes that jump and TKR becomes an all B10 1st or 2nd teamer.
@cordercorder8785Ай бұрын
Thank you. I’m not saying somebody can’t emerge as that guy but as of right now I don’t know who that would be and neither does anybody else. Losing edey isn’t just about losing a big man down low. It’s losing one of the most dominate big men down low who drew double team after double team and also helped get other teams bigs in foul trouble. A lot more to this loss than just rebounding and scoring.

Easily the best post in a thread full of fanboy posts. Purdue has a lot of questions and concerns to address this upcoming season. I think they'll be good, but growing pains are coming early as they transition without Edey on the floor. Guys finding their roles and learning how to fit in and fit together without the back to back POY on the team. Smith gets tons of hype, but its not like he's this big, athletic guard that can physically dominate the opponent. It will be interesting to see what he and this team looks like without Edey.
@falconhoward4032Ай бұрын
I mean he's basically a 3 level scorer already with how well Purdue bigs are taught to set Gortat screens. He will have scoop layups with people concerned about his shot or his passing, he's a great mid range shooter, and his 3pt percentage speaks for itself. Don't forget he was also an absolute offensive dynamo in HS in the toughest conference in the state and won Mr Indiana Basketball because of it. The shooting around him will also make his job much easier and help his efficiency

That off-season Purdue went to the elite 8 with Edwards they lost 4 of their 5 starters, the next year was a hard season to watch sometimes (Edwards shot around 20% from 3), but they won the big 10 and we're a shot away from the final 4. Painters philosophy revolves around finding players who care more about the team than themselves, then figuring out who the best player is and giving them the ball. I think he has the talent you be about to make something out of what he has, but we'll see. By many accounts that 2019 season should have been the worst season Purdue has had under Painter

They'll play 5 out for starters then shift the game by bringing in Berg or Jacobsen and moving TKR to the 4. Opponents will have to play and prepare against both styles and won't know how to respond. @@edalbanese6310 Jacobsen weighs 230 lbs and Berg weighs 260 lbs (compared to Edey's 300 lbs from last season), according to the Purdue roster page. No problem in that 260-lb weigh for Berg.
