Absolutely, best Hornet demo ever. The departure was mind- boggling, should ' ve fallen out of the sky outta the daring climb and it didn't. Plenty of instances along the display when it flew way beyond the ragged end of the lift curve and back and it didn't stall. Rubbed my eyes in disbelief several times, tumbling end over end asymmetrically repeatedly, cutting corners in the horizontal turns and he did it over and over again in both the vertical and horizontal planes without any fatal consequences at all. Somebody has wasted millions and millions in fighter technology to just become a runner up to this already outdated? machine and its unbelievably extraordinary pilot. One hundred years later and it is still the fantasy of closing in on and sending a burst of cannon that motivates the young recruit pilots. Those who pretend otherwise are probably liars. For the record, I read years ago about a squadron from Chile visiting America. The flew inferior jet fighters to the Americans. Is the F 18E really a better option? It is just unbelievable what the F 18 is capable of in the hands of a talented pilot. And this pilot is just awesome.

Super hornet is not as agile as old C version due E is so much bigger and heavier than C. This phenomal show was possible only with updated flight control software done couple years ago. Update did give limiter override, now they have removed limiters from software to be able do those manouvers. Its still astonishing that this is still just normal air force operational plane and pilot! Yes, take note there is not always same pilot doing these shows.

@@KoneistusSalmi i believe these maneuvers are still within the Hornet's flight envelope and limits of the new software. The Hornet is actually a very capable BFM machine.

@@KoneistusSalmi Thank you for your reply. Now I understand. And the F 18E is supposed to be the better plane? In can not imagine that. Why did not they refine the Classic Hornet just like they did with the F 16. The Blue Angels do not want the F 18E either....I am very impressed with the way the foreign airforces fly the old lady. Look at The Swiss or the Aussies....

that's what I was thinking. I'd like to see them release us to let someone do this in a 16, 15, 22, 35.

Superb flying, good video but I found the editing and zoom just a bit too tight. Sometimes a wider shot gives a ground reference that makes the display look even better. Great job though :)

Does this qualify the f-18 as “supermaneuverable”? Because it looks like it just did an su-27 demo, with some weapons mounted. Very impressive

The AIM-9M Sidewinder -missiles on the wingtips actually improve the flight characteristics of the aircraft.

Well there was the Mir thing. Why do you think Rauma Oceanic's entire submersibles production line was scrapped? Because both teams play ball. The underlying sentiment is different. (As a Finn, I have zero doubt that the top three friendly nations are USA, Estonia, Sweden.)

I found some interesting photos from the past on a russian aviation forum about an interesting McDD advanced Hornet design. It was just a wind tunnel test model, far before the well known Super Hornet, but it was completly dedicated to the supermaneuverability in every single details. It has no LERX at all, however, it has two large canards. From the side, it looked like a “Gripenized” Hornet. The wings were same as the legacy Hornet has, but the stabilizers had larger area and dog teeth. There were two small deflector flaps between the two nozzles, to vectoring the thrust outward for a half rudder effect at high AoA. I don’t know what it could do, if it would went to the production, but this limitless series C-Hornet is able to reach that capability.

There's a video on here from 10 years ago by Aryboyd, which shows an F-18 Super Hornet display at Farnborough Air Show, flown by a Ricardo Trevan, who was then, the Chief Test Pilot at Boeing on their F18 program. Good video too.
