At 1:16:45 - “I had *some* credibility in the fleet” I’m not a pilot so I’m not so good at reading between the lines, but that seemed like a rather incredibly humble statement. 4350 hours and was a pilot for the POTUS…. Ummm yeah… I’m thinking his credibility was never in question. Great interview.

Enjoyed the pod cast … I was at HMX Aug 1975 - Sep 1978 as an Avionics Tech and I was a VH-1N and VH-3D crew chief. I was there at the end of Ford and first part of Carter. Many trips to Camp David and Georgia. I took Marine One onto the South Lawn Aug 1978 two weeks before I got out.

What a wonder discussion. Thank you! I got to see a bit of the Presidential/VIP ops at Andrews AFB. I was TDY there in late 1984 and again in early 1986 doing work at the air traffic control facility/tower. Very interesting seeing the prep and post work of what goes on for a Presidential/VIP departure or arrival.

My cousin's husband is a mechanic for the presidential helicopters. He ended up being chosen right as President Biden was put in office. He served his time there but couldn't wait to get out because it became so political that it made him not even want to be in the Marines anymore. Which is very sad! I really enjoyed the show thank you so much for the information it was awesome.

I had the pleasure to serve and support HMX-1 on three different occassions in my life. From 80-84 I was blessed to crew VH-3D's and at one point was designated the Marine One crew heif for President Reagan. An amazing experience for a young Marine. My second tour was from 87-94 where I supported the HMX-1 mission while also being involved in the early planning for the developing V-22 program. Lastly I had the honor of supporting the Presidential Helicopter fleet at the NAVAIR Program Office as the civilian Assistant Maintenance Officer for an amazing team of personnel for 13 years before retiring in 2020. HMX has been a large part of my life and to this day I will still see one fly past my house from time to time and will always stop and watch as it passes by. Had to laugh when they discussed the variety of landing zones. We landed with Reagan on a drag strip once. You call that "variety".

It’s pretty cool that this video popped up today. Here in College Station, TX, a retired Marine One helicopter was delivered yesterday for permanent display at the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. It will be displayed with the “Presidential Locomotive”, a special Union Pacific locomotive that was painted in Air Force One colors and numbered 4141 in honor of the 41st president. This locomotive pulled the funeral train that brought the former president’s body to his final resting place. I hope Mr. Jamison gets an opportunity to visit the museum someday.

I worked for Reflectone Training Systems in the mid 90's in Jacksonville Florida, where we had full motion based flight simulators for the H-3 and H-60 helicopters. During this time, pilots from VX-1 that flew Marine One would come down for recertification. I distinctly remember them saying how nice and charming President Bill Clinton was to everyone but Hillary was just the opposite! The pilots loved their job even though they didn't vote for Bill. True professionals! Great Podcast, keep it going!

Wow! What a blast from the past! There is a lot that I’ve forgotten about my time at HMX-1 (‘88-‘93), since I separated from the Marine Corps in ‘93. However, I do remember “Captain” Jamison. It’s no surprise that he gave so much credit to the Crew Chiefs and everyone else involved. I remember him as being a very professional, positive person that treated everyone with respect. It’s great to know that he had such a remarkable career. Excellent job by the interviewer “dragging” answers out of the Colonel. 😂 From an old Crew Chief.

I was lucky enough to be part of the media when POTUS arrived on Tues to KMHT, the amount of prep and security it took before he got there was unreal. Then the constant contact with SS as he got closer to get the media onto the tarmac a few minutes before he touched down. It was too windy to use Marine One, so they had a large motorcade and being so close was the first time I was able to see how thick the doors are. No wonder they say its a tank.
