hyper action battle from VF4EVO was also in Tekken 7's treasure battle but a bit different. In VF4EVO the moves' speed remains the same except that you can cancel them instantly but in T7 the speed battle just speeds up the game like a fast-forward button

Love this video Den! VF’s impact is completely undeniable and is truly immense. Tekken copied it and stole ideas from it REPEATEDLY over the years. There’s a reason it’s permanently on display at the Smithsonian National Museum for its contributions to both art and entertainment. It’s easily one of my favorite series of all time, regardless of genre. I couldn’t be happier that the king is back! I can’t WAIT for VF6. The only people that didn’t want VF to come back are immature, toxic Tekken fanboys that weirdly want Tekken to be the only 3-D fighter around.

day by day vf4evo surprises me more. When i first booted it (because ppl kept saying it was so good), it blew my mind with the tutorial being the most detailed tutorial any fighting game ever had (with shimmy, fuzzy guards and option selects being topics on it which is fucking insane). Than i got to quest mode and it was literraly arcade quest, it had customization, ranked system, holy shit it had enviroment destruction, incredible!

Great video, Den. My first VF was VF PC as a kid and I loved it. Didn't get to play VF again until 4 came out on PS2 and I instantly grabbed it and loved that Kumite mode, then Evolution with Quest mode. I'm excited for VF 6 and my one big hope is that they FINALLY do a story with these characters that's not hidden in the manuals. They gotta give us some interaction and lore with these characters that means something.

Just because VF did these things first and laid the foundation for Tekken (and every other 3D fighter), does not make VF the best. The gameplay makes VF the best. I'm currently still enjoying Tekken 8, but ultimately, I just want to get back into VF. We're only less that a week away from VF finally being back, on pc, with rollback, no less, and with VF6 in the near future. It's a wonderful new era for VF.

And to be honest; Tekken has lost its way. Tekken is basically a 3D "anime-style" fighter now. Full of meters, rushes, and ultra combos; it's basically too over-the-top. Having Virtua Fighter back in the limelight is refreshing and it gives fighting game fans elsewhere to have fun, since Tekken is on a sharp decline as of recently. I think many fighting game fans are just exhausted of the Tekken series. The story of Tekken doesn't really go anywhere, it does too much, and a lot of fan favorite characters are turned into jokes just so that the Mishimas can tell their played out, overdone story Welcome back, Virtua Fighter.

This video is mostly good, but I feel like it does VF a disservice by unintentionally implying that VF deserves respect for coming up with the ideas that Tekken just makes better versions of. And while much of that is true, it should not overshadow the fact that VF is just good in and of itself. Not only for being innovative, but because it's just an almost annoyingly well-put together fighting game, where each of the 19 hugely distinct characters meaningfully engages with every mechanic, on top of every mechanic playing into two or more other mechanics. VF understands the aggressive close-range play Tekken is trying desperately to nail with 8, and they're making it seem effortless, from 2006 (or '02 if you're a 4 fan). It intelligently designs its characters and systems to emphasise player-on-player interactions, and not character-on-character like Tekken. Not to say Tekken is bad, I absolutely love Tekken. But with the eminent release of VF5 R.E.V.O, I dug into the series for the first time, and I didn't find a retired sensei. I found a grandmaster in their prime.

Tekken began to take a different direction starting from Tekken 6. If I were to use rain as an analogy, it was drizzling in Tekken 6, raining in Tekken 7, and experiencing a heavy hailstorm in Tekken 8. Personally, I found Tekken 6 to be incredibly boring to the point that I regretted purchasing it. I struggled to enjoy Tekken 7, but I just couldn't connect with it due to the mechanics, music, and aesthetic choices. When Tekken 8 came out, I was almost sold on its strategic elements. However, the catch-up mechanics, cheap tactics, and other mechanical issues, along with the game fully embracing an anime direction and incorporating weapons like guns, completely turned me off. I felt done with the series. It's such a shame because I used to be a massive Tekken fan, starting from Tekken 1 in the arcades. Damn.

Wrong question, it should be more like "How did Virtua Fighter influence 3D gaming?" because that's what SEGA basically did, they didn't just birth Tekken, they literally birthed 3D graphics and set a benchmark to aspire to, all the way up to Virtua Fighter 3. Virtua Fighter 4 fell off a little bit, but Virtua Fighter 5's visuals held up for a VERY long time. It was only really beaten by Tekken 6, look how long it took Bamco to visually overtake Virtua fighter. Virtua Fighter always has and always will be on a different level to Tekken, VF is big bro.

ehh T6 graphics didn't really look that great simply cuz of how muddy and desaturated everything looks, VF5 vanilla 2006 looks way more vibrant cuz of the stages and I think DOA4 was also around this time and that was also colorful looking. It's not until TAG2 where it looks way better imo. Also VF4 didn't really fall off, VF5 was tho until VF5FS.

@@journie3042 Tekken 6 looked great, I'm not sure what screen you were playing on, but maybe your display needed calibration? The only thing that was a problem (which plagued many Sony platform legacy titles) was that there was a lack of anti aliasing, so the edges often looked jaggy and unpolished, but the actual visuals in terms of polygon count and detail in the characters and backgrounds, were pretty high. TTT2 was also good looking, I agree. DOA 4 is a classic of course, but I'm not talking about that here. Vanilla VF5 does not look better than Tekken 6, nor does final showdown. The game could have done with some weather effects, everything looks nice and polished, but very linear and flat. I would say VF5 wins on character model detail and cleanliness of the visuals, but Tekken 6 wins on stage detail.

VF was NEVER competition for tekken,tekken came out and immediately whooped vf. I don’t know why people think it was ever competition. The ONLY way vf can ever compete is when vf completely UPDATES itself! It’s too outdated to be a competitive modern 3D fighter. The gameplay mechanics are too slow and robotic,the sound is horrible,the graphics too waxy,there’s no story,character design bland. Plus they NEVER CONFIRMED VF6! The footage was a CINEMATIC DEMO FOR A GRAPHICS CARD,NOT GAMEPLAY. The series been stale for 16yrs for a reason.

In the west, it was never a competition in terms of sales. In Japan and Korea, Virtua Fighter absolutely destroyed Tekken until AM2 ended up having writer's block on how to evolve VF to the next level. That's the ultimate reason nothing was done for VF for nearly two decades: writer's block. From there, the gaming scene became tired of VF, as you can only play VF5 for so long (It went from VF5 Ver A, B, C, D, R, and Final Showdown), so they mostly shifted over to Tekken. As for the west, sales-wise, you are correct, for VF was never a competition for Tekken. However, when it comes to sheer gaming and ignoring sales, it was 100% indeed a major competition, and it was something that Namco deeply expressed more than several times. So yes, while the west was playing Tekken, the Namco team, which the west gaming side loved, were all playing and loving Virtua Fighter. Man. Right there, let that sink in: the dev team you (figure of speech) loved were not deeply playing the game that you are in love with. They were deeply playing your competitor's game.

Ignorant comment and completely false at that. VF was ALWAYS ahead of the curve compared to Tekken, be it graphically, mechanically, animation wise, in terms of innovation and pushing boundaries, etc. Tekken literally lagged behind VF and looked inferior. In the arcades VF1 and VF2 took Tekken 1 and Tekken 2’s lunch money. Tekken’s only advantage was being on the PS1, which sold 100,000,000+ units, while VF was stuck on the Saturn which sold 10,000,000 and then the Dreamcast that only sold 9,000,000. So FAR more people were exposed to Tekken as opposed to VF. But popularity doesn’t make one thing better than another. There’s a REASON Tekken literally plagiarized and stole ideas and innovations from VF for YEARS on end. If VF wasn’t “competition” then that wouldn’t have been the case. VF was always superior as a game, it just didn’t have Tekken’s flashiness and the backing of being on one of the most popular consoles of all time.
