The UFC schedule is looking more and more captivating for the year of 2023 and the streak of incredibly hyped up PPV starts at UFC 284 when the featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski takes on the Dagestani Islam Makhachev in a pound for pound battle. I have a feeling this fight will go down in the history books as one of the greatest battles in ufc history! But I just can't see Alex moving up a weight class and then going right straight for the champion of the toughest division in the ufc and coming out on top... But I sure like to see him try.. Volkanovski may look impressive beating on guys like Holloway, Korean Zombie and Ortega but Islam is a different animal. 2/3 were predominantly strikers and 3rd was a jiujitsu guy. None of them were wrestlers who can dictate where the fight takes place. Add that to size and strength difference, this is gonna be a one sided massacre for Islam.

Wrestling/grappling is simply a superior way to defeat a single opponent, compared to striking. I find it strange that this is still not clear to everyone.

I agree. The odds are more in favor of Islam's grappling than volks striking BUT Islam isn't a half bad striker himself so I think Islam's skills will ultimately dominate the fight.
