Thank you for watching another episode, of the Filipino Genealogy Channel. Today's video is part one of another genealogy series which will run in the next few months. This series is called the Principalia Families of the Philippines.
And for today's episode, we shall focus on the Lakandula families of the province of Bulacan. The principalia were the local functionaries in each town during the Spanish period in the Philippines. These men and women received special privileges and priority treatment from the colonial rulers.
They were the ones who were always enumerated in town documents, listed down one by one, while the rest of the non-principalia members of the community were collectively listed down as "and the rest of them".
They were allowed to carry the ennobling title of Don, while their wife held the title of Dona. Their eldest son also held the title Don.
