Thats so true with respect to the development of the relationship between the two main leads in the second half of SAIRAT as compared to DHADAK! The struggle and pure trauma that Prashant and Archie went through eventually leading up to the traumatic end! It was like a punch to the stomach! In Dhadak however, it failed to have that kind of impact despite the impressive performances!

SPOILER ALERT I had a huge problem with the ending because there is no closure, yes Sairat was abrupt but we can make a sensible assumption that the kid will be adopted by the neighbours he will be traumatized but given his age there is hope he will be able to have a life. But Dhadak WTF happens to Jhanvi character, does family come out kill her/does she kill herself, does she go to police considering the witnesses outside……, does she go insane with grief become a mental case, because what does she do next NO CLOSURE. Yes Sairat was tragic but they lived together and died together so neither has to suffer alone without the other, kid walking away in blood stained footsteps is metaphor for life goes on. My conspiracy theory brain is saying that they couldn't kill Jhanvi because of Sridevi, it would have been hard for her family to see that even though it is fake and maybe they thought it would be in bad taste the first movie after your mother death you die in the movie too that is depressing. I don't know but I am thinking Rahul is right the ending is changed for mere shock value, in honour killing everyone is killed girl wouldn't have been spared, this is more dumb revenge killing with no exit strategy considering they flung the kid with so many witnesses.

Anupama defending nepotism 16:50. In business , bcz of the networking your kids have an upper hand ..understood,even in politics. But art and science is individualistic pursuit. A doctor's son or an IAS's son have to clear all entrance exams . A Beethovan or Michangelo's child does not make them talented just by virtue of being born to them. Meryl Steep's daughter do not get movies just bcz of her mother. But sadly in India movies are just business and not art form,and nepotism is the order of the day in business and politics.

Ishan and jhanvi felt more like karan johat laboratary experience they were soo unreal in their approach...i feel soo sorry for the cinematographar who had to go with the process of framing this wood faced glamour.... 1) People blame all film stars of nepotism but it's the ppl who are at fault!! How many ppl went n watch Newton or Trapped? What if Dhadak actors were some newcomers n not star kids like Isaan n Jhanvi, kitne log jaate movie support karne? Probably None!! 2) Whatever Anupama said about nepotism was the same said by Rahul Gandhi in some other event :D the same happens in politics. we blame nepotism n go n vote for Akhilesh, Rahul or Tejaswani !! If we stop watching star kids movie, this will stop But Nahi hum wohi movie dekhenge jisme Dharma production ka tag ho, wohi article padege jisme taimur ne potty kiya ho ya Suhana ne bikini pehna ho!!

I really enjoy these sessions where 3 of u together dissect the movie and discuss in detail on all parameters. Though I've not seen Dhadak this discussion gave me full insight into the movie. To be frank Dhadak was more of QSQT instead of Sairat. Agreed Ishan n Janhvi do light up the screen but whatever little I saw I think they 've long way to go in terms of acting. But they are full of energy and enthusiasm which will take them fwd. Anupama all thru the discussion I thought u were very protective of Janhvi. I no we all loved Sridevi n we want All good for her kids but it showed ur bias a lil bit. Sucharita. Bang on. But disappointed that a film critic like u missed watching Sairat. Shouldn't good movies sort of become case studies for u guys? Rahul...I agreed with most of it points.

One lesson i think ishan should learn from dhadak, between interesting roles in mediocre movies and mediocre roles in interesting movies, opt for interesting movies no matter how mediocre the role is, and then play the mediocre role with a depth and full heart. See the likes of nawaz in kahaani, a bad cop is a fairly common and mediocre role, but he portrayed it masterfully. Now those are the challenges an actor should aim to take. I was glad when he signed Beyond the clouds, I thought here's a guy who is following the likes of rajkumar rao, irfan, abhay deol, or even ranbir kapoor who explore their talents as actors. But then he did dhadak which made me feel he is infact following varun dhawan. He should stick to taking risky but interesting projects (atleast for now since he is a newcomer and doesnt have anything to lose) and polish his acting chops and exploring his caliber. He shouldnt have done this film, the lead role might seem exciting seeing how good Akash thosar potrayed the same in sairat, however had ishan read the script, he would have known the sanitizing mediocrity of dhadak and should have rejected it. Hope he learns from this venture. Looking forward to more of his work.

Enjoyed this discussion. Ms. Chopra you said that nepotism exists around the world. It’s present in all societies. You are right it’s a fact, and it’s even more prominent in business families, perhaps Bollywood receives much flak because of the scrutiny that comes with the media presence. However, just because nepotism/class privilege is pervasive in the world, it doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be debated, disrupted and questioned. While, Ishaan is talented(Jhanvi not -my opinion ) there are multiple talented actors that don’t have the same opportunities that these guys do. While you have the right to appreciate their talent, as do we, there is nothing wrong in pointing out their privilege, and the unfair advantage that it renders. Historically, the industry family-cinema nexus has limited quality content in Indian cinema, primarily because nepotism makes any creative field stagnate and settle for mediocrity, making the film industry seem almost feudal in nature (to outsiders at least) ; this also applies to society at large. Globally, the fight towards inclusivity in cinema has been a topical issue, I think that’s it high time that people sitting in privileged positions within the industry and the intelligentsia understand why the Indian middle class constantly points out nepotism. Film criticism needs to acknowledge that cinema is also a cultural apparatus that should not be depoliticized. My attempt is not to deride anyone just a point of view.

Just felt like sending you guys some positivity. I’m in the UK and have a great love for cinema, including the films that come out of India. Your channel connects me to them and gets me thinking about filmmaking as well and not just the actors that are the face of these films. Your thoughts, opinions are insightful. I don’t see bias, I see a perspective that resonates with me in each one of you. Even at times when you aren’t entirely agreeing on the merits of a film. Just goes to show what civilised conversation can achieve. Thank you for this channel, and I cannot wait to see all 3 of you in more of these videos. It only makes my Monday better and less of a slog

I agree. Like see acting of Abhishek Bachchan in Mani Ratnam movies and then see what he has done in rest of his movies. There's a clear difference. Director plays a huge part in bringing out components of his character from the actor and a genius director can do that even with a shitty actor while a shitty director can ruin a great actor as well. Eg. Aamir Khan in Dhoom 3, KK Menon in Singh is Bling, Tabu in Golmaal Again etc.

Nepotism be damned? Not very professional or sensitive towards the Dalits who can’t even enter the mall in Mumbai, especially talking about such a sensitive matter as the Dalits in Sirat. I was in the mall in Mumbai, and Dalits are not welcome. The guards there watch you over and say who could enter and who cannot. Just an example on a different level, but very relevant to all situations. The dalits does not have doctors nor engineers or to say movie star parents on their resume, to engaged with the arts or to get a mail person job in a corporation. Stop making doctors and engineers an example for nepotism, these doctors and engineering students had to go to university 5 to 10 years if you want to be a doctor...they have earn their way already with or without parents influence, most of these star kids never even went to acting school. A poor person or a Dalite who merely wants an audition for a role, is not given an opportunity most of the time…if not all the time. I am sure if Anupama had a daughter that had to go in the back street in a dingy dark room for an audition 100 times in a month...she would think and used her words better and not be so frivolous. Going for a interview in a scary room with only one man there with you is much more dangerous than going for an interview for an engineering job. It’s funny when they say …oh yes the star kids are given the opportunity but they have to prove themselves. Many of you should learn what nepotism really means. It’s not what comes after you are given that opportunity but how you got that opportunity. And for the stars who made it without any help and say the same BS is because now they have children and would fall into nepotism, so they stay quiet or try to give an explanation that does not make sense. In my company and other companies you are not allowed to hire a family member, by law. And really ...none of the 2 lead are not good actors. but that's my take :) .....sorry for saying all this, it's said in good spirit. :)

I totally agree with the "honour killing" considering there was no pretext or context in Dhadak for that. It's actually pretty well embedded in Sairat (if we are to draw comparisons). Here it cannot be justified as an honour killing, unless you're hinting at something like this in any part of the film.

Sanju was really really bad. What do we have to learn from a man sleeping with 350 women? What does the scene even mean when his wife stands there with a straight face when he confesses to that? Edit: and yes the script was loose and the biopic was more of a story than the reality. Overall a total dud for me.

Sanju never covers the real problems with Dutt and portrays him as a victim of circumstances. It’s hard to buy that as we know he is guilty of the charges and he is to be blamed for his own actions. And Ranbir acting was just mimicry.

He's right when he says journalism can do a better job than filmmaking on this. Mainstream films are too simple. It also makes people believe that anyone can make a film.

U had a problem with the ashutosh rana's big bulging eyes!!! What abt ishaan's wannabe varun dhawan act!!! He was trying too hard to bring that innocence on his face everytime he looked at janhvi. But failed every time. It seemed too fake. Had it been alia or parineeti in place of janhvi then he would have looked really bad.the acting was ok not wonderful. Between ishaan and janhvi, ishaan was less worse. Pls don't ridicule ashutosh rana who's a seasoned actor. It was just bad direction. He hardly had any scenes. It was only janhvi and ishaan that they were trying to promote even in the film let alone outside.

I just dont know if these bulging eyes originates from Tollywood industry? To be honest i have seen it happen in a lot of south based films. I dont know if its a style of acting or what?

I dont think the background of the makers is important for making a good social issue film. The research is more important which I think bollywood film makers are not used to. Proper research about the topic, meeting affected people can give you the sense and seriousness of the topic.

Shameful.... A stupid remake with star kids Dhadak gets all the footage in the video, and Soorma is totally sidelined!!!.... Thats the impact of Nepotism which goes so far and wide and is not just restricted to star kids getting movies and no one talks about this,and irony is these guys were elaborately talking about nepotism!!

If DHARMA productions show superior cast or any cast in bad way or responsible for honour killing then the caste will oppose it and wouldn’t let it film release it, we are witness that what happen with PADMAVATI.

I have watched Sairat, I did not compare Sairat with Dhadak and I liked both the movies. Dhadak was little on the lighter and glamorous side Sairat was 20 mins too long. But both movies were fun to watch!

did u really watched sairat. look at the layers of the movie in second half. Dhadak being light is understatement. It is just mediocre acting pushed by Great karan Johar
@ThroughLensStudios
@ThroughLensStudios 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, but to establish the layers and at the same time adding all the commercial songs made the movie 20 mins too long! The ending was jaw dropping and that made people forget about the long run time of the movie but that does not change the fact!

Angry Indian he added all the songs to attract the masses...given a choice Manjule would not have included any song (as per his own words in an interview)...I would easily remove that song about Archie.. and may be 10 more mins from the second half

@himanshugupta6147 6 жыл бұрын
That is just after thought. Dhadak did that. what a final product it turned out actually. MOvie's ending was a joke on the original. In fact it was classic Johar brand of cinema. Actors looked walking straight from five star hotel.
