2:33 Do you have to commend the artists such as the cinematographer, costume design et al, by saying that their work matches up to Hollywood? Can't you just say that it's the best possible in the contemporary times? Are you still mentally colonized Sucharita? Think about it please.

I watched this movie last night. Didn’t read a single review beforehand so went in completely blind. This is the best film every made in India based on a freedom fighter. I’m usually fidgety when watching movies but despite the length this had me hooked from start to finish. The Jallianwallan Bagh portion will be remembered for decades to come. This made be believe that India is capable of producing truly international content. Absolutely superb.

Same.. cried and prayed… what gave me goosebumps was when he sighed saying ‘Waheguru’! Coz I said ‘Ya Allah’ exactly the same time! Its like on screen and in real life we were praying to the Almighty seeing the horror of injustice! This is a masterpiece. An asset to Indian cinema! It probably be in movie making text book for future!

The awesomeness of the movie is unparalleled and it is so difficult to pinpoint certain scenes and moments that win. But the scene where Investigating Officer asks about Bhagat Singh and Udham’s response to it is such a low key but powerful scene

The recreation of that massacre was put at the last solely because the director wanted us to remember it, and feel it the way Shaheed Udham Singh ji felt his whole life. If the scene had been put at the start, we would have forgotten it by the end of the movie or it wouldn't have had the same impact

The movie is wholly on another level, and for a person who is even slightly intrested with pre independence and free dom struggle era, it's a treat to watch. You won't forget this movie easily. Every part of this movie is a gem and so perfectly made. Believe it you won't be able to complain even at a single scene during whole movie. My fav dialogue : "Jawani ek toofa hai veere"

Well analysed and credited to the whole team for a hard hitting movie. But, still the script conveys way more. Like, in the first half it tries to establish a question b/w revolution and an act of terror. Remember before he shoots, the speech given by Dwyer. It was intentional. Intentionally, he kept the masscare in last scene. That shoot was not just revenge it was the a symbolic act of ending the idea which Dwyer was making in his speech. Later , in mid of movie , Amol I guess the actor name, tries to establish the difference b/w revolution and an act of terror. But the most epic was when Vicky explains why killing him was a symbol of revolution. The scriptplay may seem technically sound for other reasons as you explain in the review, but it also tries to establish a fact especially by the hard hitting long scene of masscare , the clear demarcation b/ w a revolution and an act of terror . Nothing is above humanity nothing is above human life. Thanks.

This Movie is not just cinema to be watched but it comprises of all the emotions and brings back those pain in you! Such well shot and strategically made n written that the inner you cries lot at the last scene. Vicky Kaushal has done the role brilliantly portraying the thought of udham singh which directly hits your heart. Such movie should always be encouraged which shows us how we have fought for this freedom and we should live this freedom with dignity rather belittling its real meaning to life.

I am so happy that it worked. There should have been good number of historical films by Indians, their perspective, their suffering need more telling. If Attenborough could make Gandhi, there should have been more and more on the freedom movement of India. How can one forget the discrimination they faced, showing it doesn’t mean it is jingoistic.

I liked the detailed review but it would be good to avoid details on where certain scenes were placed in a movie. It should be possible to keep this details out of a review without getting into spoiler territory, and still providing sufficient depth as to why you enjoyed the film. Not knowing when to expect what scenes in a movie are some of the joys of watching the movie unfold.

Excellent movie! Vicky Kaushal brought back life to the martyr Sardar Udham Singh! However, did not like one of the last few comments at the end of the movie especially the one that mentions that ‘we’ still haven’t had an official apology from the British Government for the Jallian Wala Bagh Massacre. Not undermining the sacrifice of the victims at all, but we are forgetting that despite being an Independent Democracy since 1947, we are still being exploited by our very own non-British non-Imperial Indian Governments for all this time. Journalists and loyal citizens who try to unravel the reality do it at the risk of their own lives and sure enough, are lynched under the name of sedition! There’s no point living in the past when our very own people are betraying us all the time. In an ideal world, the appointed government authorities should be highly educated with genuine degrees in their respective fields powered by years of worthwhile experience under their belt to justify their status as the assigned official prove it consistently that they are worth their job. Sustained bullying & hooliganism is promising not only nepotism but also assuring unqualified officials who of course will carry on their rancid legacy. As far as I can see, The Government, should be apologizing to the masses for not caring for the country. They have been flushing money into their personal accounts for the longest otherwise what else can explain that the country is still not at par with the West after 73 years of independence! We are worse than any 1st & 2nd world if you pick any area i.e., tourism, travel, education, good job opportunities, physical quality of the life of a common man, water, gas, electricity, housing & slums, traffic & road quality, corruption status, law and order including police and defense, need I say more! Yet, we have the audacity to promote that we still haven’t heard for an apology from what happened way back in the past by a bunch of foreign officials who followed the orders from their top officials whereas our own dear government, even today, is focusing on fleecing the common man!

Maybe don't 'assume' that shoojit Sircar went "Greta Gerwig" on this film? Can he not just go Shoojit Sircar on it? We don't necessarily need western referential terms and identities to understand what Indian directors want to do with their storytelling. Thanks for not a review where nobody asked your opinion/. Lady-child saving actor?? Yes.. Lady saving! You didn't saw the massacre but the aftermath are still now on the roads of Amritsar. And you can't see a 2.5+ hour movie patiently? First try to understand the emotions! It can't be felt within a hours where everyone is ready with there points to notice in a flim rather than the emotions. Ok. Maybe Udham didn't saved the victims of the massacre. Maybe it's here for the story demand. But many other people did help. So the aftermath scences of the massacre can be a portrayal of those noble man and women. "What were you doing at the age of 27? You know nothing about him." - This line is for you. 🎈
