Sardar Udham is the slowest of slow burns. Which isn’t unusual for Shoojit. The role of Sardar Udham comes with big demands and Vicky Kaushal delivers. Watch the review for more, and catch the film on ‪@PrimeVideoIN‬.

Shoojit Sircar's Sardar Udham sheds the problematic grammar of the freedom-fighter epic, writes Rahul Desai: www.filmcompanion.in/reviews/bollywood-review/sardar-udham-movie-review-shoojit-sircar-vicky-kaushal-winner-by-technical-knockout-rahul-desai/
@karenrand4734

Fantastic read! Rahul's perspective about appreciating a film for what it is not, as well as for what it is, was very interesting. The turn of phrase "...his future battle is not so much for the humanity of a nation as the notion of humanity itself." is so succinct. The emotions conveyed in these sentences hit hard and could be used, just as well, to describe the the second wave of Covid: "...his private sense of loss morphs into a collective sense of despair. The anatomy of mass destruction ensures that his life, his grief, loses its identity."

I watched it last night and was dissatisfied, I think for people who don't know the history will find it very interesting, but if u already know what happened and how vicious it was it doesn't shock u, I just think the scenes went on too long, it's a good movie but could've been better, I think with this production Rakeysh om Prakash would've done a better job
@abishaipaul2298
@abishaipaul2298 2 жыл бұрын
@@jagtarsinghmattu1212 I am sorry you feel that way but i don't think om prakash mehra doesn't make character studies. And it would have been a completely different film in his hands. His violence is stylistic as it was in bhaag milkha bhaag. Here it was just brutal. I don't think knowing a story has any effect on how hard the film hits. Almost every indian who went to school has read abt it. Doesn't really diminish the brutality of the scenes in film.

Just watched Sardar Udham.. only one word to say about Vicky’s skills.. ‘chameleon’ He truely is like a chameleon. Get blended with each role he plays! He becomes the person. He is sooo talented Mas-Allah. And such a great piece of art. I cried and prayed, cried and prayed during the last hour of the movie. It hurts so much to see the pain, felt so real. What gave me goosebumps was when he said ‘waheguru’ while rescuing the injured, coz I said ‘Ya Allah’ exactly that same time. Its like on screen and in real life we prayed to the almighty seeing the horror of of injustice

It's an amazing movie, I don't really have words, I am just in awe of how Shoojit's brain works and how brilliantly the screenplay was done. Generally, you would find in such movies that there is a linear arch of portrayal, with all the acts building up into a crescendo, but it is not the case here, you will dwell into his story to the very depth. Vicky has outdone himself, what a great actor! My heart goes to the entire team. Thank you for doing justice to Sardar Udham Singh and showcasing his tale of valour in such a wonderful movie! Kudos!

The best thing about Sardar Udham was that it didn't even try to cater to the Nationalist jingoist part of our audience. Also the best use of CG for different era world building I have ever witnesses in Indian cinema. Really has created a benchmark in cinematography. I found myself drawing comparisons with The Revenant at many points. I hope the producers make a profit out of this one otherwise we will fail ourselves and our future generation if such movie standards are not adhered to.

Very few times Indian cinema goes such deep into the darker sides of history with such authenticity …brilliant cinematography…Bhagat Singh even though very few shots but it feels like the character is in front of you ..scenes with Udham Singh and Bhagat Singh are soo well shot that you feel the chemistry…. I slightly disagree with FC as she says that last 20 mins of the films sets the tone …I feel it’s a bit injustice to all the technicalities in the film setting up the sets …character build …non linear time line is a complex set up …full marks to it

A great film which will certainly make waves. Just one problem. Mr Sircar, for reasons known to him , choose to portray that there were only Sikhs in jalian wala bagh on that day . The event was held to protest the arrests of Dr Kichlew and Dr Satpal , a muslim and a hindu. They were at that time a shining example of hindu muslim unity. The young men were fighting for Indian independence not some Sikh cause as the name Ram Muhammad Singh Azad testifies. This sectarian portrayal goes against the grain of everything Bhagat Singh and Udham singh gave their lives for.

Excellent movie! Vicky Kaushal brought back life to the martyr Sardar Udham Singh! However, did not like one of the last few comments at the end of the movie especially the one that mentions that ‘we’ still haven’t had an official apology from the British Government for the Jallian Wala Bagh Massacre. Not undermining the sacrifice of the victims at all, but we are forgetting that despite being an Independent Democracy since 1947, we are still being exploited by our very own non-British non-Imperial Indian Governments for all this time. Journalists and loyal citizens who try to unravel the reality do it at the risk of their own lives and sure enough, are lynched under the name of sedition! There’s no point living in the past when our very own people are betraying us all the time. In an ideal world, the appointed government authorities should be highly educated with genuine degrees in their respective fields powered by years of worthwhile experience under their belt to justify their status as the assigned official prove it consistently that they are worth their job. Sustained bullying & hooliganism is promising not only nepotism but also assuring unqualified officials who of course will carry on their rancid legacy. As far as I can see, The Government, should be apologizing to the masses for not caring for the country. They have been flushing money into their personal accounts for the longest otherwise what else can explain that the country is still not at par with the West after 73 years of independence! We are worse than any 1st & 2nd world if you pick any area i.e., tourism, travel, education, good job opportunities, physical quality of the life of a common man, water, gas, electricity, housing & slums, traffic & road quality, corruption status, law and order including police and defense, need I say more! Yet, we have the audacity to promote that we still haven’t heard for an apology from what happened way back in the past by a bunch of foreign officials who followed the orders from their top officials whereas our own dear government, even today, is focusing on fleecing the common man!
