I have learned a lot from Simon Ubsdell. From what I have researched, you cannot publish the audio stuff inside FCPX. I would love to have an audio visualizer inside FCP that would take the video source audio as its input. But if you make several templates inside of Motion, it would be just as easy to just import the desired audio and export the video for use in FCPX.
@TheFinalCutBro4 жыл бұрын
TheAudioDabbler I seriously researched this for so long before making this tutorial and couldn’t find absolutely anything. It seems like it would be an easy feature to add, by having something like an audio drop zone even. Maybe someday Apple will think of us poor creators. Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much for this awesome tutorial! This was my first Motion project and was able to make a visualizer for the latest song we posted. I added a bit of glow and Bad TV effects for a bit of a retro feel. Also duplicated the main group, inverted + skewed it in an attempt to get a reflection which turned out ok, but would be really cool to get the reflection to illuminate a surface for added depth. I was never able to get the project to export directly through Motion so I tried the trick you suggested of converting the project to a Motion "Title" and then used that in Final Cut (adding back the music) and was able to export from there. Looking forward to trying out your other visualizer examples and hopefully more to come!

Yeah. And it means that to do this for dialogue in a 45 minute podcast is utterly unworkable. By contrast, I can create an audio visualiser in Reaper that calculates the graphics in real time on playback. @TheFinalCutBro3 жыл бұрын
Holy smokes that's massive! I would likely recommend making sure you are not exporting to something like ProRes 4444 HQ. You could definitely export to an h.264 format and likely shrink the size down immensely. However, if you are needing an alpha channel, you may need to go the ProRes 4444 route. BUT another suggestion would be to save the effect as a title, then load it into Final Cut Pro. While you won't be able to transfer the music from Motion OR change the music in Final Cut, the audio animations should still apply to the clip. So you would have a transparent background, without the need for a massive export. Just make sure the "Title Background" clip is deleted before saving to a title. Hopefully that will save you some valuable hard drive space!
@Warthog713 жыл бұрын
@@TheFinalCutBro thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I will export it to h.264. Motion was taking an insane amount of time to analyze the 30min file, which is why I also opted to break it down to 3min segments. Perhaps now I won’t have to. I’m running a 2019 IMac Pro, and was saddened by how long it was taking. Also, I do not need the background. Saving it as a title will get it done! The file is just a phone call interview for my channel with a author, and I figured that it would be cool to use the visualizer. I really appreciate the help!

@bcreativelab7963 жыл бұрын
hi FCB! great tutorial, working on the visualizer. I was working on a song that contains a lot of white noise and raw samples used. This causes the initial replicator to flicker/react negatively on the Y axis movevent (unwanted). So I played around a little bit and seemingly you can prevent this by reducing the noisiness (0,1) , still it reacts okay then (in my opinion) also added a bit of scale level (minimal though). just sharing this. Keep up the great work!
@bcreativelab7963 жыл бұрын
adding info, I noticed that this only works for Y axis flickering in low frequencies. Once the the replicator is duplicated the noisiness is needed for the higher frequency ranges to pick up. I will search for the balance in this ;)

@TheFinalCutBro4 жыл бұрын
@@ikaichao2941 so looking at this video, you could have the audio animation drive the scale of the image. If you go to the scale property in motion, and click on the down arrow next to it. Then go down to “add parameter behavior” then select audio. Then tie that parameter behavior to your song and let it analyze it. Then you can set the frequency to whatever you like! If it’s not growing large enough for the animation you want, you could set the scale factor at the bottom to something larger than 1 of the audio parameter. And then it should grow much larger according to how the music is playing out. Hope that helps!! I made another Audio visualizer tutorial on my channel if you want to check it out. Yes absolutely! Not a dumb question at all. You can either export it at the maximum possible quality of ProRes 4444 and make a massive file size, but it would have an alpha channel with no black background. Or, the better option in my opinion, is to export it like normal, then in FCP Set the blend mode in the video inspector to either add or screen and that remove the black background. However, that will also make them slightly transparent, depending on how dark your colors are. So just keep that in mind.

You can then set the blend mode to Add or Screen in Final Cut Pro if you want the black background gone. Hopefully that gets you started in the right direction!

Great in theory BUT... Motion just won't complete the audio analysis for a 45 minute podcast on my M1 MBP. Please HELP - I'm doing this to an hour + long podcast audio and it only is animating up until about 4 minutes then the lines stop doing their thing and just kind of jitter without much up and down. First four minutes are great though. Any reason you can think of that this may be going on???
@TheFinalCutBro2 жыл бұрын
Hey Cody! My first thought is, was the audio able to analyze all the way through before you applied the animation? That’s something I wish I had mentioned in this video.

OK. For a 3 min save at 1080p, I got it down to 7gb from 56gb at 4k, then exported it from quicktime to 420p and got the file down to less than 50mbyte!

Hopefully my response on your other comment will get the number of steps down to just 1! Glad you got something figured out though. Thanks for watching! 👊

That’s awesome! After effects is insane but but the monthly subscription suckkkkks. I’m planning a motion 5 deep dive in the near future. So hopefully that will help even more! Appreciate you watching and commenting!

@@TheFinalCutBro I recently started charging clients for motion graphics and animation. Even with the new M1 Mac although faster than I had. The playback and rendering is still awful. I wanted to start using final cut and motion but was worried it wouldn’t fit my needs. This tutorials shows that I may be fine!

When it adds short audio files, rendering is quite fast, but when adding large audio files, it takes quite a while. But thank you anyway.

Yeah unfortunately that's just the nature of the beast :( Really hoping Apple adds some additional functionality to let audio visualizers work so much better in the future. But right now Motion is working off some ancient tech to analyze audio elements. Appreciate you watching! 👊

it didn't work. followed every step 4 times. once I started messing with the duplicates nothing was showing
@TheFinalCutBro4 жыл бұрын
So sorry to hear that! I’m curious if you happened to let the audio analyze all the way through once you assigned the audio behavior? It can’t take a little bit of time, and sometimes that breaks things when it doesn’t finish analyzing.

For all the people saying this is easy to follow... compared to what? I'm sorry trying to follow this is more work than earning $40 and buying a visualizer plugin.
@TheFinalCutBro3 жыл бұрын
Haha you make a good point! That’s a bummer it was hard to follow. Could you let me know some areas I could work on to make it a little easier to understand? I always appreciate constructive criticism. Unfortunately the tools in Motion are somewhat limited, so to get really good results you have to work really hard for it.
@MistyMusicStudio3 жыл бұрын
@The Final Cut Bro Yeah you did a good job explaining it, it’s just that there is a sequence of 40+ steps and that is rough lol. I think some complexity could be reduced by having your parameters defined beforehand, instead of adjusting them too much in the vid. Still, the program seems intimidating 😅 Kudos for figuring out this process btw! It definitely takes a sharp mind 🧠 ✨
