It's really silly, but the simple act of paying all my bills on the first day of the month makes me feel very rich and grateful. When I pay all my home expenses, my social security payment, and I leave my budget for groceries for the month, it's great. I have met so many people who struggle with this, even people with high incomes who are always struggling with lawyers and late payment requirements, and this must be so stressful. So have the possibility to be debt-free, and be on time on my basic expenses is great.

I first felt rich when I realized I could use money to solve problems. In particular, one time we were running late to the airport. We had intended to park in long-term parking, but doing so required parking far away from the terminal, waiting forever for a shuttle that made a zillion stops, etc. We just didn't have time for that. We realized that we could still make it if we parked right in front of the terminal in short-term parking. We knew doing so would cost a few hundred dollars. But it was worth not missing our flight, so we did it. We used money to solve a problem. At a different time in our lives this would have been inconceivable, but now it was not a huge deal. And that's when we realized we were rich. This doesn't apply to every income, but that's my number one.

I also decided to try a natural sponge for dishes because 1) it's cool 2) it will be used longer than a synthetic one. Stocking is interesting but shifting some products for those which will be used longer / will expire later is such a joy, especially if they are eco friendly and natural, don't cause allergies and so on. I mean I am not much of an eco geek but I like that eco products are better for health (or at least less damaging), often are good in quality (like EU eco cleaning products) and live longer so you can by some of them (some sponges or cloth) less often. I mean many quite unusual purchases for some turn out to be nice spending habits on a long run. Like investing less in fast fashion and buying vintage clothes made of better quality fabric and with better stitches.
@sklyarsays8 ай бұрын
I also started avoiding cheap jewellery - not to buy the most expensive, to buy a good quality jewellery from gold and silver (usually it is gifted by fiancee though). Cheap would give reactions, especially with ears if it's earrings. So I switched to natural quality metal, yet it's normal market price and minimalistic design - the same logic like with fast fashion, really. So no allergies for me, it doesn't rust, it's still beautiful after long time. And yes gives the feeling of rich even if it's once bought (I don't stock jewellery, I don't have a lot and don't aim too haha) pair of earrings for like 130$ on a trip. Basically, long time perspective thinking helps to avoid bad purchases so well. I think long time thinking is the reason she advises to pre-stock things.

Lately, I buy mostly new, but it's mostly quality stuff to replace that stuff that I had previously and the stuff I had previously goes to a 2nd hand shop for redistribution. I do think that people should realize that there's a fairly nice stuff that can be had 2nd hand and that if they just replace the stuff that they use so much they wear out, they can save a lot of money on things that weren't contributing anyways.

Good list, here is imo what’s missing: 1. Do hobbies, but don’t just focus on hobbies. Gain skills so your market value allows you to leave jobs you hate or get laid off without fear. 2. Gain charisma. Practice talking to diverse sets of people so you have value to anyone you talk to. I have a lot of interests and probably have talked to more diverse people successfully than most, you can do it! It opens doors. 3. Act on your word or your plans. Be someone who has an idea and executes it, you will be seen as successful even if some fail, and you’ll feel great knowing you went for it. Rich people take action. If you meet someone at a bar with the same dream, start operating on a plan there and then with your new connection, don’t let your anxiety get the best of you. Regret is a foul beast. 4. Travel. Make it small if you have to, just a weekend in another state, but leave your routine for a while both for your mental health but also so you can look your life objectively. Rich people thrive in control of their time, but also critiquing their bad habits. 5. Be the initiator. Invite people for dinner, make the first move on making plans, be confident you have value and show people you aren’t afraid to show your true self and enjoy new perspectives. 6. Scope out community events or lectures and attend. Rich people see opportunities to grow in getting out; go to lectures at your local museum or attend your town hall meetings. Get involved in your towns politics. Entering intellectual and communal circles gives you the chance to participate in and change communities. Becoming a community known figure will make you very rich in relationships and power. 7. Get some sort of therapy or life coach, or personal trainer. It’s gotten cheap enough that the poorest(me) can afford these luxuries. Improving yourself can be done, but it’s easier with a guide. You will feel, look, and sound better and feel more confident. Richness is an attitude first. 8. Write letters. Not all the time, but when prudent. The effort you put in will be rewarded in respect from the recipient, be it a family member or a Congress person. Indicate you are putting in time for someone, and they will make you feel like a king or queen. 9. Eat well. Remember what you are eating at one time was only reserved for the richest in the land, and appreciate it. Don’t just get McDonald’s, sample food from other cultures and try using exotic ingredients. Learn to cook too, offer it to people. Their appreciation, and your well earned pride in becoming a person of the world, will make you feel as loved and respected as any prince. 9. Teach. Not all the time if you don’t want to, but try it. Knowledge is power, impart the knowledge you have gracefully and make someone better for it. If you don’t have any skills to teach, it’s an indicator you must learn yourself. Alexander the Great was impressive, but his tutor who taught him everything he knew was more so. Be a mentor, and you will feel rich as anyone on earth in the process. 10. Read. Stretch your mind, don’t just learn skills, learn to THINK. Study logic, for 10 dollars a book can teach you every way you evaluate your beliefs is wrong, and it’s great. It helped me! Rich people are rarely the best at what they do, but they are crafty and know how to think and bring abstract puzzles together. Become an out of the box thinker with all the afore mentioned habits, and the world is yours. Good luck.

The color trend you were talking about actually holds some weight! As important as tailoring and finding fits that are good for you are, figuring out what colors and shades are actually good for you based on skin undertones, your features (hair and eye color and depth) and picking colors that are the right hue and intensity for you is one of the best ways to always feel like you look good! Color is a huge part of that. It’s not totally a scam, lol. It’s nothing to obsess over, but it’s something to keep in mind! Neither of those are in the Bible though. “Be content with what you have” is, but I think it’s notable that it doesn’t say wages. Case in point, Jacob’s uncle Laban changed his wages ten times and that was rightly called unjust. So the Bible actually says “the worker deserves his wages.” That offers room for those who aren’t being given what they’ve rightfully earned to seek justice. “Cleanliness is next to godliness” isn’t the Bible, but what IS in the Bible is “godliness with contentment is great gain,” which I think is even more powerful.

If you know that, you will avoid buying a bunch of clothes that just doesn’t do it for you, and then have ‘nothing to wear’. So maybe don’t dismiss that approach. That doesn’t work with interior design, you can look good and feel powerful in any colour 😄

I’ve seen these cleaning/decluttering tips over and over again, and I think they’re 100% true! But what I would LOVE to see is how to keep implementing these routines when you live with a partner who isn’t really on board/doesn’t see clutter/leaves cleaning until the last minute and doesn’t understand the value of those routines!
@lili16k4 жыл бұрын
Oh my God this drives me CRAZY when my sister and my dad don't see the dust and the dirt and the clutter, and don't seem to mind. Honestly, I think if a partner respects you enough he/she will make an effort to clean up mote/ watch the clutter etc. Because YOU feel uncomfortable otherwise. (not that they have to clean up your stuff, but just watch their stuff more is what I mean.) if they don't make an effort I honestly just think that's rude, disrespectful and lazy. I would try to have a serious conversation with them about this topic and trying to explain to them how important a clean space is for you, your well being, your mental health, and you happiness, and if they love and respect you, they should make this a priority!!

Give him/her a designated clutter space. Empty a closet and tell him/her that's where his/her clutter can go. Throw everything he/she lets looming around into his/her closet. Don't bother organize it, keep the door closed. If he/she doesn't want to dive into that crowded closet to find his/her stuff, he/she will start putting it away. It's out of your way and your home looks clean and organized always.
@lili16k4 жыл бұрын
@@f.-j.j.5738 This is great advise! I kind of do this too with my sisters stuff, because I don't care about her room (it's always a mess, but that doesn't bother me). I think this really works!
@emilycurtis43984 жыл бұрын
Watch ClutterBug's channel. She tries to have designated spaces for clutter to go ("mail goes all over the dining room table? Put a basket there so it's easy to move mail off the table to eat"). She also emphasizes changing your mindset about cleaning and decluttering. You declutter and clean to make you happy, not to pressure your family. Edit: I used to be a complete slob and would break down and get overwhelmed while cleaning. My husband was more of a neat freak. Lots of conversations and working together.

I would begin having your own personal things each in their own place. Then begin your daily 20 minute daily clutter duty. On the days that your partner wants you to do something for or with him, begin your 20 minutes and tell him that if he does 10 minutes on his own (without asking you things) while you do your 10 minutes - that will cut down the time and you can get to his stuff sooner. If you do this 10 times in a row, he will begin to know you mean it. Don't explain - pin your lips together.

I fully understand the reasoning behind "make your bed right away"... but at the same time, as far as I know, you should put the duvet away for some time (maybe half an hour) and give your matress some time to "breathe", dry and cool down. Also trying to remove dead skin cells from the pillows and sheets to not feed the dust mites. I've seen this tip and people making the bed by just covering up the matress right after getting up way to often and finally needed to comment this :D

I think the hours are a little inaccurate. I work in the warehouse field and on peak seasons we work up to 12 hrs a day 6‐7 days/wk. Many of my coworkers have to work part time jobs on top of that because they're single parents or the head of the household. Once I met a guy working 3 part-time jobs to barely meet ends and sleep only 3-4 hours daily! I tried to have children w/o success, but now I realize my course might ended up working better for me

I don't leave dishes in the sink overnight cuz I hate the way it looks, dislike dealing with it in the morning, and I feel it keeps critters at bay. People are always surprised that I wash my dishes before eating (not during holidays, though). I cover my food in saran wrap to keep it warm. It's annoying at first but NOT doing dishes after a relaxing meal is much more annoying imo. Having a cluttered home throws off my concentration, so I clean up here and there regularly. I like how this video explains the psychology behind these actions.

Dear Chelsea, thank you for everything that you and the TFD team do and stand for! You helped me to stay sane and on top of my budget game during these difficult times....Even though I lost my student job due to covid and even though I had a few huge unexpected expenses in the last 3 months (our dog got diagnosed with epilepsy and we had to spend almost 1000$ on vets and medication; also our home water-usage counter broke so we had to pay 500$ for water that we never actually spent - for comparison sake, we usually pay around 30$ for our monthly water utility bill). Somehow, thanks to your tips and tricks for budget reorganization and debt pay-off plans, we managed it! I even found some room in my budget for 10 different online classes to keep me occupied during quarantine, while filling up my CV with new skills that I could monetize afterwards....thank you once again! xx Aurora

Stocking up ahead of time also helps in that you can buy products when they go on sale rather than always paying full price. Economizing with the little things helps build up the frivolity budget: I was recently able to guilt-free book a self-catering stay plus dinner out for my fiancé's birthday. It's the one thing I splurge on each year and never regret it.

Another benefit of stocking your regular supplies is that you can buy them in quantity on sale rather than at full price when you need them. I do this with quite a number of things, I just have to make sure that I don't stock too much of anything with an expiry date.

This is possibly one of the best videos you've made :) I appreciate this because the finance KZbin space is plagued with a lot of 'how to earn more', 'how to be richer' videos. And it's more tactical on the money side which is actually a never-ending conversation because as time passes (inflaationnnn~) and technology evolves, there will always be new, different methods to earning more. But not a lot focus on the mindset aspect. The 'gratitude' aspect of self-care/self-love is almost always thrown out there in a way that's context-less and not actionable save for the usual 'journal the things youre thankful for'. While you included that tip here, it's part of a larger mindset/discipline, and is largely an activity to reinforce a viewpoint. I know this was shared 2 years ago, but the message of this will remain timeless, imho. Spoke so hard to me, especially now that the new year is coming and I need some life rejigging. Thank you for this. :)

Using a fountain pen with bottled ink (sounds expensive, but it doesn't have to be) 6. Using low-waste options (natural bar soap, safety razor, fresh food, etc) 7. Indulging in some non-digital hobby (sewing, reading real books, drawing, playing music, etc) 8. Connecting with nature (even if it's a park or a botanical garden in the city) and having picnics 9. The best way to "feeling in control of your expenses" is by setting realistic but difficult medium-term goals. Like goals that are doable, but take quite some effort over a few months. Everytime you succeed you get some satisfaction out of it. Like paying off a certain amount of debt, or if you're debtfree, saving up for some high ticket item without using credit. Those high ticket items have additional perceived value because you've put in effort, and they also make sure you don't waste money on all sorts of cheap clutter instead.
