Been fish keeping my entire life and this is BY FAR my favourite fish!!!! It is almost impossible to find this fish as I live in Australia and they retail for over $1000. I have owned 5 in total over my lifetime. I still have dreams of finding one in a local fish shop, only to wake up disappointed in the morning. Hoping I can keep this beautiful and intelligent fish again soon!!

Have 2 5inch Datnoids that have always fought since 2inches.. both eat pellets and shrimp. Have had different tankmates but only as distractors.. I only want the two Dats a Black Ghost and maybe another bottom fish like a bishir. Been thinking about putting a divider in my 150g tank with a Dat on each side, of course it would have holes for water movement and filtration and it would keep them separated. They are really close in size but just that little bit of difference makes one more dominant. Their separated now with divider to try and get them same size to see if they can coexist. I’ve raised Datnoids for over 30 years but have always had groups of 5 or more. Have seen really huge pairs get along but they were too big to fight lol.. Do you think the divider idea would work for a permanent situation, would half of a 150 be too small or should I just let them go at it. They are both happy healthy and mostly stable.
@TheFishBeast2 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I think that’ll work for a while but it’s a tough situation. Eventually you’ll have to decide what to do. Maybe get another 150 so each gets a tank? Or rehome the one with worse pattern. A single one will do great in the 150 for life maybe with a bichir and the BGK. The other option is get a 180 or 220 and 3 more dats, keep 5 of them in there, use the 150 as a sump so they grow nice and huge with the water volume.

Nice growth rate! Yes, sometimes tankmates can be hit or miss with these… I recommend avoiding live feeder fish due the the extreme risk of diseases such as parasites. The only exception is if you raise the feeders yourself. Shrimp are ok since they don’t have diseases that they can pass on to fish (generally). Enjoy your Datnoid!
