John - a handy tip to keep the vehicle doors from freezing like at 01:00. Spray some silicone on a paper towel or rag and wipe down the rubber weatherstripping. The doors won't stick again and you won't run the risk of tearing the weatherstrip off the door.

- I try to return as many as I can. I do occasionally take one if it’s a special occasion or if they won’t survive release. 👍🏻🐟
@callumclark33583 жыл бұрын
I know there’s no way to be sure, but I have my doubts that fish would survive. If it was a salmon, and it got handled that much, getting lifted up several times, hands in the gills and all, there would be an uproar in the comments section. Question is, is there any evidence that sea fish can tolerate the kind of treatment that would be expected to kill a game fish? I’m not being disrespectful, I really like this channel, and I’ve seen FAR worse elsewhere, with people dragging fish over rough stones and so forth, scales going everywhere, and them seeming to assume they’ll survive just because they swim away.
@jamesoshea3593 жыл бұрын
@@callumclark3358 it's been well documented in some studies that bass caught, released and tagged often were caught in the same area a couple of years later.
@callumclark33583 жыл бұрын
@@jamesoshea359 Ok, I’ll not demand references to those studies, but if they were proper studies there would be handling protocols. You’d need to check them to be sure. I’m not quite ready to concede on the point that, in general, sea fish fish seem to be subjected to much rougher handling than freshwater. In part it’s understandable, sea fish are usually caught in more challenging conditions, rocks, heavy seas, moving boats and so on. Tackle tends to be heavier, and hooks are mostly large and barbed. Level of mortality is still open to question. I’m not trying to point the finger, and I’m no expert, but I just wouldn’t touch a fish’s gills if I intended to release it.

Hi there, top tip from my army days, if a freeze is forecast, put a smear of vaseline on the rubber door seals, this allows you to open the doors and without tearing the rubber off the doors or car frame, a dab over the door lock helps the key go in if you have a mechanical door lock. That bass was a monster, stay safe all of you.

@shorefishingessex3 жыл бұрын
It's a problem here too John, the flounder are around but not in the numbers they used to be, they are one of my favourite fish to catch as I cut my teeth shore fishing years ago catching flounder from the tidal Thames, catches into double figures were commonplace, not anymore though sadly. I never thought about the seals before but their numbers have increased around my parts as the flounder numbers have decreased, whatever the cause it's a shame as it's another, so called bread & butter fish taken away from the shore angler in the South East along with eels, codling, plaice, scad & dover sole, we even used to have a good run of twaite shad but I haven't heard of one being caught in years.

That bass was awesome. Winter fishing is almost always slow here in the lower part of the north atlantic, so a bass that size is a huge prize. And it’s good letting those massive fishes go, as they are great for the gene pool.
@TheFishLocker3 жыл бұрын
- I agree Arian, big healthy fish like that are prime breeding stock aren't they. IMO best table size bass are 4-5lb 😊

It's 01:50 and I just saw this video from 2021. That's a very good bass. I enjoy watching and listening to details and try to get more information. Last year I have seen on one of your video using a slow pitch jig gold/orange zebra( sidewinder Thor) with a spinning rod. I have bought it and I was surprised to see catching with almost every single drop. I couldn't believe it. Thanks for sharing & explain so much. I would love to be out there but I can't travel... Restrictions. Best wishes for 2021

I said to myself I would cry if you let that fish go ... and I did! Then you explained the bass ban. That would have looked great deboned from the back and stuffed with fennel mash!
@TheFishLocker2 жыл бұрын
Both are very valid points. It would have been great, but the bass ban if for a reason. 😊

What an amazing looking bass. I love those mustad circle hooks for perfect hook ups like that one. I would say that I would probably have stayed in bed with temps that low. LOL cheers to you for getting stuck in on a cold day like that...

Haha. That fish alone made it worth getting out of bed for. 😊

My husband and I went deep sea fishing a few years ago. We had a great time and caught lots of red snapper. I supplied the chum...lol.... But I also caught the most and biggest fish. I wish I had taken pictures but I would like then fish til I caught something then puke again while the deck hands removed the fish from my line... Next time I'm definitely getting some Dramamine for sea sickness!! You brought back a great memory for me! Fantastic video!😂😂😂
@TheFishLocker3 жыл бұрын
- Haha. I have seen many anglers do just that thing Teresa. Spend half the day ill then catch the biggest fish. lol. 😆🎣

Awesome to see the float go down, must be so hard to fish two rods and get the camera pointing at the float but it makes amazing viewing. Love watching a live bait float! Nice work, thank you.

Hello Fish locker , Happy New Year to you and your family and obviously , well done on the fantastic fish. Quick suggestion , it'd be great , when fishing on a drift , to let us know which way is the drift. (Hand gestures left to right or back to front etc ... ) Thank you so much for taking time to read and for your consideration. All the best. Chris.
