Hi John. As you know I'm an advocate of peeler crab as a number one bait. For your followers who are not familiar with foraging for the rascals,. Gently turn over the rocks in the rock pool, keeping the water clear, look for the crabs that have a pink tinge on their leg joints. Pick the fellow up, take hold of any leg, give it twist, and if is about to shed/peel, the shell will come away in your fingers.

Everytime I take the car ferry across the Clyde from McInroys point to Hunters quay I always stand up top looking down at the water and wonder what is swimming around underneath me. People who don't like fishing just think it's boring standing watching the tip of your rod in the pouring rain and as we say in bonnie jockland, "it's blawin a hoolie" don't understand the thrill of what could be. You never know what you're going to catch as anything could take your bait, big or small. Tight lines John 👍

Travelled up to Somerset many years ago several times. Fished Minehead and Blue Anchor. Other than hundreds of dogfish, the only things I can recall getting were a few small congers and one small codling in winter. It is a fun area to fish, but a challenge to avoid the doggies!

Guaranteed if you skinned a load of doggies, took em to your local Chinese takeaway, they would buy them, and probably in future to because the meat on those fish is delicious 😉

I've noticed that watching fishing vids, that most fishermen seem to use fixed spool reels, in the 60s 70s and 80s, we used to frown on FSs maybe because we thought that you had to learn multiplier when you grew up LOL and that FS reels were for teaching children to cast. Although, John Holden used a FS on many casting tournaments..... Anyway, is there a reason for most people on vids using FS instead of multipliers.......... We used to use FS for spinning etc but beach and pier distance fishing, always multipliers, My own for instance. Started with a Sea Steak, then moved to Penn Beachmaster, then Abu 7000c, and Daiwa tournament reel with level wind removed... I think that was a John Holden modification...... even on boats we prefered multis such as Penns and My last one was a Shakespeare??? cant remember the model now....... oh happy days....... even today at old man age and knackered body, I still keep a small rod and a basic kit in the car incase I see folks mackerel fishing when I'm out, 2 reels, both light fishing but the little multiplier gets used more than the little FS PS, at Hartlepool, we'd got at low tide. dig bait at the Middleton pier for an hour then fish the tide up and back down........ now you have to buy your bait

It is due to the progression of the tackle and the lines we now use. Lines are stronger and thinner whilst FS reels are much better quality. They offer a higher rate of retrieval and with no loss in drag capacity but with the added benefit of no birds nest. The modern style is also leaning towards the continental style of longer thinner rods with large fixed spool reels.

Set up a Rock Salmon cooking demo with your father in law. Fillet, skin, soak in milk then fry. I used to make Shark Nuggets for my students when we dissected spur dogs I caught. James would enjoy them. American Summer Flounder like the white belly strips, talk about a tough bait! Bet the bass and pollock would go for them or Turbot and Brill. If you can't beat them... Eat them!

The first spot where you fished would be 100% impossible for me, at my age and the trouble i have with my body it would be a no no. good video with plenty of fish that you won't eat. Sometimes when I visit Hastings I order Huss from the menu, as when fresh I find it very nice. When I catch plain old dogfish I threw them back as they were not Bull Huss. I happened to walk past the Fishmonger on Bognor Regis Seafront last year and they were selling Dogfish already skinned. Well, I don't expect to buy them when they just jump on your hook, maybe I should try eating them ? Would you skin them like you do an eel and smack a nail through the head into a block of wood, cut skin around behind the head and pull ?

Down there where you are fishing any bait will b good squid mackerel sandeel peeler crab blueys ragworm lugworm is all really good baits even with the added atraction of tuna oil to your bait blue anchor is another good mark to fish watchet harbour wall fishes good at times that's where I've cought my 7 ling off of watchet harbour wall tight lines bud happy fishing 👍🎣🐟🐟🐟🦈🦈

Sunday night again. You’re more patient than me. 40! Or so dogfish in inr day. Better luck next week! My local fish operative are catching lobster, Crab, turbot, brill and a variety of lovely fish. I’ve almost given up meat! They use doggies in their pots.

Had a little spotted ray from that very mark John (may last year) , although it was at low tide dusk when I went . Proper workout over them boulders ent it !💪🏼.l I wondered are the doggies be any use as pot bait ?? All the best mate , appreciated as always 🎣👍🏼👍🏼

Wow 40 dog fish!!!!! Thats got to be some kind off record mate. I know it's better then a blank but a bit of Variety. But you can't help what fish are in front of mate. It's a bit like whiting on the east cost you catch catch any thing els but that. Hopefully the wormer months will bring the good sessions. I really liked the look of that second mark mate.
