I just saw the first video and suggested a shoe as well as a silicone caulk ball, which is what I use. As far as the shoe not working as well it's because it was completely flat so it could only clear the top surface, your stick on the other hand has corners which is how it got in the crevices. Try it with a regular tennis shoe or hiking boot that has tread and it will work just as good as the stick. You can also cut the rubber off of the bottom of the shoe and wrap around a small piece of pvc pipe or small piece of wood. Honestly you could probably keep worn belts off of vehicles or equipment to use as well, all kinds of things around the house that doesn't cost any extra money especially with the ridiculously high price of everything right now.

If it is an antique, don't sand the finish off but use a gentle stripper. Watch Thomas Johnson furniture refinishing channel for proper care of valuable furniture. Sanding can destroy the value of antiques.

Great tip. I’ll be checking out your videos too. I’m sure they’ll help a ton. I’d been using a scraper to remove the gunk on my mouse sander but always wondered if maybe I might’ve been also damaging some of the grit. The rubber definitely won’t. Hope it’ll work on this sander as well.

good tip. If it doesnt contaminate the paper which it most likely does. Paint wont stick to silicone. It could even lubricate the abrasive and make it slide on metal

Have you tried to clean the sandpaper by grinding it at the curved surface? Because the belt is bending the crap in belt should be easier to remove while it has been bent outwards which should reduce the friction for the binding.

It seems like that stick is made out of natural "Crepe" as where as the shoe you used is just some polymere. You can use old Clarks Desert Boots - they have such a sole. But if that stick is only 10 bucks I don't see why to thing even about alternatives

I think the issue IS the shoe, believe it or not.😄 The rubber on the bottom of that style of shoe is kinda like eraser rubber. (As far as firmness) Use the rubber from the bottom of an old hiking boot. But a "good" hiking boot. I say good because a better boot should have a stiffer rubber sole. Just my opinion.
