Well-made, well-presented informational video. Great angle shots with clear and concise instructions. All together, this video is well thought out and organized. Good stuff. Great explanation matched with equally helpful visuals! Valuable skills, could be transferred to explain other topics beyond tools and woodworking!

What's your thoughts on the grease sticks? I've used the rubber ones for a while, but is it worth adding the grease one?

I am seeking to sand and repaint a front porch - I’m wondering if belt sanders are suited to this task or if I should seek out a circular hand sander. It seems like maybe they are more suited to elevated construction work, but I might experiment with the sanders I have to see how they perform on this porch.
@TrainingHandsAcademy Жыл бұрын
Start with what you have but the belt sander will work good for this task too because it can remove material quickly.

Thanks for the tutorial and tips. Very informative. One thing that I didn't understand was what were you using to clean the sandpaper? It was a stick of something. Sorry but my hearing is not that good lately.

Hello Blanca. It works just like a pencil eraser, just bigger. Here's one to look at --> amzn.to/3smDPXc

Hi - I hope you or another viewer can help out my pretty basic question. I've embarked on my first wood-working project since 8th grade (1979) and have small problem. I made drawer that is 3" high, but needs to be about 2 7/8" high, so I need to remove above 1/8" from all 4 sides. I have an orbital sander, but it's taking forever with 80 grit, but more importantly it's not sanding down evenly. After watching this video I think a belt sander is the right tool for the job? Or maybe a plane? Thanks in advance
@TrainingHandsAcademy7 ай бұрын
Hello. A belt sander would work, but it's still really hard to keep even. I would use a table saw for the long cuts and a miter saw for the short cuts. However, I would imagine that you don't have either. So I would draw a very clean pencil line on what needs removed and sand to that line. I would also recommend starting on a practice board to get the feel of the sander. Hope that helps.

Thank you for giving the demonstration of how it can skip forward, potentially out of your hands. That is my #1 fear in attempting to use a belt sander, and showing what that might look like and giving the solution for preventing it has assuaged my fears! Thank you.

Some of the retailers who sell belt cleaning sticks refer to the material as crepe. About 50 years ago there was a year or two of chuka boot men's fashion footwear with crepe soles, soles of exactly the same material as these sticks.

I think the very affordable Ryobi EBS800V belt sander is a good choice because of two features you did not mention: 1. It has holes for clamps (and 2 clamps included) so you can use it stationary. 2. It comes with a metal sanding frame so you can use it for flattening glued shelves or even for sort of joining if you don't own a joiner! Now here is the affiliate link ... www ... just kidding! But I was a little astonished you did not mention those two possibilities for using a portable belt sander in a small workshop and/or for people with little money!

As always Wolfgang, thanks for chiming in! It's good to know about the Ryboi... I haven't bought a belt sander in over 18 years.

I bought a used belt sander that did not have a dust bag. What is a good standard dust bag out there that I can buy for my machine and where can I get it?
@TrainingHandsAcademy4 жыл бұрын
You will have to look for a bag that fits your model and brand... if you can find a factor bag that would be great.
