HOW TO FIX YOUR MACBOOK APPLE MAGSAFE CHARGER 1 & 2, CABLE REPLACEMENT

You can replace the cable on your apple magsafe charger, if the cable is frayed, not charging, or cut. This method will work on magsafe 1 and 2 all wattage. There are different models of the same charger (solder wires are located in different locations) but basic principles remain the same.

Does not go back together but a couple well placed and tight zip ties do wonders. If you super glue it you may not get it back apart if you need to replace it again. So you might consider filing a few notches around the brick in a few places so when you zip it the zip will not slip. Pop the zip if you need to do this again.

Thank you, it worked perfectly. I used an O-ring plier to open it. Be aware that you need a very hot solder iron to desolder the two wires. Best above 450 degree celcius if you want it to be quick and clean. It's actually not impossible to reuse the old cable and the "cable thingy" that the cable attaches to. Just pull out the old wires, drill the wholes for the ground a bit larger for easier re-installment, cut the cable some centimeters away from the broken part, put on a bit of heat shrinking tube for later, twist up the ground wire, solder the end very fine, put the wires through the "thingy", protect the ground with heat shrinking tube, solder the two wires back on and heat the shrinking tube on the cable near the power supply.

@@TheFixTech Since the fake magsafes also have the round metal ground pin, i wonder if buying an apple extension cord would make the missing connection: www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MK122X/A/power-adapter-extension-cable or would that metal button not actually be grounding ?
@TheFixTech
@TheFixTech 4 жыл бұрын
The trackpad jitters from aftermarket chargers because of the inconsistent voltage spikes, I would not bother buying just the cable, you can find original chargers for around $25. Better safe than sorry. You can even find them cheaper if they need to be rebuilt.
@anticapitalize
@anticapitalize 4 жыл бұрын
The trackpad jitters are from harmonic distortions caused by insufficient filtering of the power conversion from AC to DC. Adding a ground will not fix that. The only reason a ground is present on the power cord (from the wall to the adapter) is in case the connection between the power cord and the adapter were to come in contact with water which is why a ground pin is not present on the factory-supplied plug accessory that eliminates the cord altogether and allows you to plug the adapter directly in to the wall.

A word of caution: my Magsafe charger proved very hard to open, its plastic halves being welded together. It is better to run a sharp knife several times thru the seams, in order to weaken the welding; otherwise, you can end breaking a lot of the Magsafe and contemplating the purchase of a new one. Getting into the actual electronics is no easy task, as tolerances are quite tight and there's a lot - A LOT - of metal foil, glue and some plastic resin whose only purpose seems to be making sure things inside were not susceptible to vibration. Unless you are really experienced at electronics repair, you are better off buying a new one.
