We got Sapphire when she was a kit and played with her whenever she was awake (baby animals like baby humans sleep allot!). She loves learning tricks so they work/ed as a great way to bond too. The key is really getting them when they are young. -Elina

Arctic fox is best fox. So adorable. I would definitely love to "keep" a fox - I don't really think one can "own" a fox ;) - but I'm not sure I have the time to dedicate. I'd want to make sure he/she was very well taken care of and played with. And from what I've read about foxes… Looks like you have one very happy girl there! Yes Sapphire goes on walks every day with the dogs. She really loves it and as she has done so her whole life she is fine with it. We don't walk where there are other people as you never know what a random dog off lead will do but she loves running around with our dogs:-). -Elina

Yes Sapphire goes for walks, on a lead but she does not walk where there are other people as I have no idea how their dogs would react to her. Our dogs adore her and she adores them. On her walk she is pretty well behaved unless she wants to go and explore somewhere I can't go like under a bush in which case I just have to keep her lead short. She normally just follows the dogs though.

We live in the UK so it's never very hot, nor very cold but she does shed all of that beautiful fur in the spring/summer and then has a shorter, thinner black coat. -Elina

No they do not need to be in a cool environment year round. Sea world in California actually has some in an outside enclosure and they seem fine, if not a bit warm. We reside in the UK so it never really gets very warm here so it's perfect for Sapphire. -Elina

They only smell horrid when worried when they release their violet gland, much like a skunk spraying. Sapphire comes in the house and goes outside but she cannot be inside unsupervised as foxes are destructive. She really loves that she can do anything she want's out there. We live in the UK so it never gets very hot, or very cold and she is fine with that. They fully shed their winter coat in this spring/summer. Yes I have had, and currently do have dogs too, you can actually see them interacting with the foxes in some of my videos. They are very different in each and every way. Foxes are somewhere between a cat and a dog. Wonderful critters. Sorry I cannot answer very in-depth here, the reply box has a limit on how much can be typed. -Elina

I've been kicking the idea of a pet fox around for a long time now, once i move to a bigger home, and have started studying up on it. All pet foxes are friendly, yes. It is all about how they are raised. Wild foxes are generally quite skittish. -Elina

This was filmed when she was full grown. She now has a mate and still acts like this and the behavior is rubbing off on him. Slush was not tame when we got him but now he gives kisses ;-).

Arctic foxes have the thickest fur of any mammal so she is not actually very fat at all, just remarkably fluffy. She does have a different body type then the common red fox though as being from the Arctic does mean she has a layer of fat but it is not very thick at all. -Elina

Actually even fox kits found in the wild and then raised by humans are just as tame as Sapphire. Sapphire has not been bred for domestication, her relatives were from a fur farm. This is just a case of nurture over nature.

Pretty much. Sapphire is not my first fox so I already know how to read her body language and such. So long as you work with an exotic pet enough you can trust them and I do trust Sapphire. She was taught from 6 weeks of age that mouthing is OK but biting is not and such so she is a very well behaved young lady. It helps that she is not much larger then a toy dog so if she ever was naughty it would not exactly be hard to deal with. -Elina

I do let her inside the house and for the most part she is a well behaved. Sapphire goes on a 5 mile walk a day so she has plenty of time/space to run with that and her enclosure. -Elina

She has a specialist diet we mix up for her consisting of salmon, turkey, chicken, green beans, clams, oats,eggs and various other things. She also has snacks of raw chicken wings, lamb hearts, turkey legs and such. -Elina

No, Sapphire is a blue phase arctic fox and the ones from Siberia are red/silver foxes so a totally different species of animal. Sapphire is this way due to nurture where as the Siberian foxes act like this due to nature. -Elina
