Anyone remember being little and unable to sleep, so you go downstairs and your dad is still up watching conan and lets you hang out? It was a cozy and austere atmosphere

Great interview. It's interesting to look inside the mind of a known funny person on a not necessarily funny platform. Bigger fan of Conan now.
@MelBee12810 ай бұрын
One thing Conan said that resonated was about good-looking athletic people trying to do comedy. Nobody wants to see a good-looking comic. The funniest people are those who are self-deprecating and have a reason to be.

He became the host of the Tonight Show when Leno decided to retire. It's pretty much considered the crown jewel (or it was then) of late night talk shows. So he was the host for a few months but then Leno decided he didn't want to retire after all and so they fired Conan and gave the show back to Leno. I don't know the behind the scene politics that Maron is referring to but on the surface it looks like Conan got royally screwed.
@happyhammer16 жыл бұрын
@@lynnturman8157 David Letterman should have gotten the tonight show instead of Leno in the first place, they fucked him over too.
@myztik57165 жыл бұрын
@@lynnturman8157 Leno's ratings were still good but NBC decided to replace him anyways. He didn't want to. So in order to avoid a big stink and keep Leno happy they left him on the network but with his own separate talk show before the Tonight Show. He was going to take the 11:30 timeslot and the Tonight Show would be moved an hour later, Conan said he didn't want to do that so he let Leno have his show on before. It ended up being a terrible lead-in undermining his own show, plus Conan as host regularly had just the worst guests. His ratings were dropping and NBC wasn't giving him any support and in fact undermining him almost every step of the way, so he just asked to leave his contract

nantucketjeep That's exactly right. It's such a bad business move to talk about your political slant and drive your audience away. I would watch his show a lot more if it wasn't so politically motivated. It's hard to keep enjoying a show when you get angered by a slanted view on current events. Especially when your counter argument is even better and possibly funnier.
