It's true - left-wing identity politics laid the foundation. As a German whose parents lived during the Nazi era, who has read many books about the Holocaust and watched many documentaries, I am stunned by what is happening in Western countries. Cheered on by left-wing ideologues and Muslim extremists, the mob is marching like the SA did in 🇩🇪 in the 1930s. Each of these days reminds me of what Viktor Klemperer described in his diaries - and I freeze inside, even in summer weather. We took a young Syrian refugee into our family in 2016. He is a devout Muslim, not extreme. But what becomes clear in many conversations is the poisoning of the minds of Arab/Muslim children towards Jews. It is unimaginable. I'm Jewish, the son and grandson of refugees from a formerly Communist Eastern European country. They were forced to escape from their country because of state-sponsored anti-Jewish persecution. I should point out that my grandparents are former ranking members of that country's Communist Party; and despite this, they were still forced to flee. What I am seeing now in the US is eerily similar to how my grandparents describe the rise of Communism in their country. (For reference, my grandparents were only briefly ideologically committed Communists - in their youth and before their country became Communist - because as Jews, they were systemtically discriminated against and Communism offered them tthe promise of being equal, of being able to attend university, of being able to be 'equal' members of society. They felt like they were victims of society - and not unjustly so - and felt a deep sense of frustration and hopelessness that ultimately metamoprhized into a revolutionary zeal to overturn the system. There are many aspects of today's "woke" movement that is straight out of Lenin and Marx. Such as DEI, which was imposed in the Soviet Union in the late 1950s (I believe) to ensure "equal representation" of each population in Soviet society (i.e., Jews, who represented a small % of the Soviet population, had until then been disproportionaly represented in government, academia, etc.) Non-Jewish people shouldn't take any comfort in the fact that Leftists and Islamists are now targeting Jews because, as history has repeatedly shown, what starts with the Jews never ends with the Jews...

It's interesting. My wife, the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, has responded to all this thusly: "yeah, the world f***ing hates Jews. I have known this my whole life" and, as a result, this has not angered her the way it has angered me because she's not surprised. However, post October 7th, I have been feeling this dilemma of questioning my own political identity in the wake of how women in politics are addressing the war. I have very little, if any, common platforms with Elise Stefanik, but I was so moved and grateful for her line of questioning in the congressional hearings with the Presidents of Harvard, UPenn, and MIT. She spoke powerfully and unrelenting as the three Presidents sat there equivocating on whether calling for the genocide of Jews breaches their respective universities’ codes of conduct. On the other hand, in the Democratic Party, we have the so-called ‘progressive’ squad of women who have spewed false, despicable, blatantly anti-Semitic and ignorant lies about Israel and Jews, as a people. They are abhorrent in their pursuit of smearing Israel and its right to exist, and I am disgusted to align with a Party that includes these women as elected officials. It’s a very hard concept to reconcile and it does leave me feeling ‘politically homeless.’ Whether change comes from outside or inside the system, we need to have less binary options and more nuanced thinkers, in particular over incredibly complicated issues, in domestic and foreign policy. Your work helps many of us out here who are feeling hopeless and helpless. Please continue to fight fervently for the freedom to have better options and keep exposing the truth behind the global response to the war in Israel, a country that never ceases to fight for its survival.

As a Canadian with Christian upbringing who votes centre right (NOT Trudeau) I believe I’m probably as close as you can get to a non bias opinion on this issue. I am also extremely well educated in European and middle eastern history/ geo politics. Palestinians do not have a state because their top priority is for a Jewish state not to exist as opposed to a Palestinian state existing next to a Jewish one. That is why they always end rejecting offers based on what they believe to be an actual human right to them (right of return). Spoiler- it’s NOT a right regardless of what they believe UN 194 means. The reason why they acted like animals celebrating immediately following oct 7th attacks is because they saw Hamas exercising that right of return live streamed. The right of return is NOT some innocent thing- it is exactly what was seen October 7th. Until the west stops funding UNWRA and clearly makes it known not another penny will be given until they publicly acknowledge they will live peacefully beside a JEWISH state and not instead of it , they will again take every single penny of rebuilding funds and use it to fund terrorism. They see Gaza as a temporary place to launch attacks from- why else would they still consider themselves to be refugees which is a Palestinian (terror) state. The problem is lack of proper education, any education they do have is through identity politics lens so they are belligerently ignorant. This is an educational issue which affects progressives whose entire world view is seen through identity framing. Classic liberals and anybody on the right understand identity politics to be Marxism repackaged based on race and not class and more than despise it. The issue of Israel/ Palestine is the best example of exactly how dangerous this ideology is in action. It Produces murderous antisemitism and legitimate terrorist supporters who believe the west to be a fundamental sin and want to burn everything to the ground. Democratics and liberals need to clean out their own parties and bases just as Republicans and conservatives are responsible to do with their far right radical fringes. That there were certain activities or places you weren't welcome in as a Jew. I started noticing that in my open mic community a few months ago. I’m 85 years old…grew up just outside of Boston, Massachusetts…my mother and both sets of grandparents fled Russia for their lives and came to, for them, paradise, yet from the time I was about 5 or 6 years old I can remember being called a dirty Jew and other epithets…I was a big kid and fought my way through the antisemites. I can clearly remember Sunday after Mass the Catholic kids would go “Jew-Hunting” to beat up the “perfidious Jews” preached to them by the priests. As I grew older the antisemitism never stopped it has just became very subtle…snide comments made to like “don’t let them Jew you down” in connection with selling something or other cracks about Jews…obviously I can no longer be involved in fist fights but it’s not paranoia..it’s real and it simmers and I’m surprised by people I know who make antisemitic cracks. And it has pervaded our country, most horrifyingly my own children are supportive of the “beasts” who committed the atrocities on October 7th…saying “….Oh we know that what they did was awful but what Israel is doing is way worse…” My own flesh and blood are, without saying it, antisemites. Our western values, among them, of democracy, equality of women and minorities, religious tolerance that are anathema to not only Hamas but also apparently to the majority of Palestinian Arabs seem to be denied by our children and replaced by “From the river to the sea!”

The problem is political Zionism, and the State of Israel says that every criticism of their actions is by default antisemitic. Very touching and I, as a conservative Latino educated professional man, clearly aligned and supported what both delineated in this video. Unfortunately, when she said she donates and supports Biden and the democrats, made me cringe. Conservatives are more aligned with both of their views than they are aware. Liberals just care about votes and less and less about values that support morality, and in most cases, ethics, common sense, critical thinking, logic, and decency. I, personally, had a great 6th grade Jewish teacher who enlightened me regarding the challenges Jews have face for thousands of years. I also dated a wonderful girl while in university and met one of the two holocaust survivors in her family. The functional problem is that with the exception of Antisemitism, which has a home in both parties, (let's be clear that most of the Antisemitism directed at Conservative Jewish commentators like Ben Shapiro is not coming from the Left), most right-wing policies are abjectly insane. The right-wing view on taxes would prevent the government from functioning, the right-wing view on infrastructure would allow the country's main transportation hubs to collapse, the right-wing view on safety and healthcare would allow swathes of the population to be poisoned or sick, and the right-wing view of the environment would turn our skies darker than Beijing's.
