May I suggest that you get an oil coolant scary for your shears. They tend to get hot fast due to the friction and the oil cools them down and lubricates them. When they are hot it can actually burn your dog and when the shears don't work as well it can pull at their hair. I noticed Ollie was flinching at one point while being clipped and that could be an indication that it is uncomfortable and possibly hurting him a little bit. I just want Ollie to be happier when getting clipped.

I just got an apricot standard poodle puppy! I showed my husband this video in order to talk him into getting one lol. He thought all poodles had to have the usual "poodle" cut which he hated. I showed him Ollie's cut and he was like, what king of dog is that?! It's so cute! Haha so now of course we have one ;) Ollie is so gorgeous!

Hi Mary ! Ollie looks beautiful and is in wonderful condition. The clip that you keep him in is shorter then a Puppy clip and all one length is either called a Kennel or some groomers call a Retriever clip, but the Ollie clip works

I see you've had quite a few tips on grooming but I agree that a clean, blow dried poodle is easier to clip simply because it separates the curl and allows the blade to glide through the coat easier. It's also far less wear and tear on your blades. I love your channel btw!

I would love to know how you picked Oliver. Since he was going to be a service dog, I'm sure that there were certain characteristics that you looked for. Did your friend in Chicago that trained him help you find him? He is such a sweet dog who definitely wants to please. If possible, I would love to see a video on how you came to the decision to get a service dog and what all that involved.

I have a Bichon Frise. They have fur similar to a poodle. He's basically a little white poodle. They are super nice because they don't shed either, but I totally hate the grooming process. Our puppy gets his hair done once a month or so. There fur never ever stops growing. Ollie is super adorable! I love how he tilts his head when you talk to him. ❤

I love Ollie! He's so cute. His cut isn't a puppy cut--puppy cuts include a big topknot, long jacket, pompom on the tail, and rear angulation. I don't think his cut actually has a name since almost all of the "official" poodle cuts include a top knot (the pompom on the head) but you clip his head the same length as the rest of his body. It is closest to a sporting or "utility" cut. But, we can just call it the "Ollie"!

you should get ollie a "flik" collar, it repels fleas and ticks without chemicals. Its like those baby necklaces for teething and I've heard good things

I have a standard poodle that looks very similar to Oliver and we cut him just the same, we have the same Oster clippers and we let him be in whatever position and do it as it goes, we also use scissors on his feet! It was just funny seeing how similar your process was. We switched to the oral pills for ticks and fleas, so much nicer than the greasy liquid!

My service doggy is a siberian husky. who says they can't be service dogs? any dogs can be. She's so good and is a great help with me and my mom. she is just amazing and so is olly. We are on training a pomeranian to be a service dog to :)

I use a plastic cereal container to travel with dog food. They are pretty cheap and don't spill the food everywhere.

Ha The ear cleaning reminds me of my grandparents dog once his ears are cleaned he runs every where and rubs his ears on the carpet it is hilarious! I will be seeing him in 2 days! Its a big deal bc they are in Canada and I am in Singapore!

Mary and Peter! Katie thought i would post a quick comment because i too have a service dog for mobility assistance and i use Nex Gard for flees because my Lab/golden was scared to show off his mo hock hope that helps it comes in pill form so u dont have to worry about the dark spots

Ollie is so cute! I heard you mention about his flea and tick meds being greasy. Just a suggestion- check with your vet about NexGard. It is a chewable treat just like the HeartGard. Our puppy is on it and it is so much easier (and less messy) than the topical stuff.

Have you tried Nex Guard by Frontline Mary , it a pill form of flea and tick medication. We used Vectra and also didn't like what it did to the fur. This new stuff actually works too. We use it on our two dogs and no flea or tick infestation yet.

Oliver reminds me of my late service dog. She was a Rottweiler but she would tilt her head from side to side when you talked to her.

Love what you are doing guys..be sure to clean your Andis clippers and oil them after each use. Poodle hugs! KZbin it or got to the Andis site! Your clippers should not be that noisy. No big deal happens to me too! Med tip: I get the weekly 4x daily. I get 4 of them so I can do my meds once a month! It's easier to remember when life gets busy!

What a TREASURE, Mr. Oliver is!...but do service dogs have a RETIREMENT age? What I always worry about with a large dog, is that they age more rapidly than the smaller breeds.

It depends on the breed! for a mobility dog like Oliver around 8 or 9.

Standard poodles, although physically large, don't age as faster as other large breeds. Their lifespans are usually around 12-15 years. And because they are quite light for their size (usually around 50 lbs) they don't have as many joint problems as other large dogs.

Just a couple of thoughts :-) A. If you save enough of his cut off hair, put it in a large bag and possibly make him his own scent pillow/doggie bed and B. if Ollie doesn't like to have his ears cleaned, I'm mildly surprised you're not using drops! Love Ollie

Oh, if you can get HeartGuard then you should be able to get NexGuard which is another chewable for flea and ticks and it's AWESOME! Rather than risking ingesting anti flea stuff

Mary, im not sure if you have a nightstand next to your side of the bed or not, but my mammaw always says, when your a woman you need to have a basket by your bed with your nightly routine.. Personally i have my lotion, my chapstick, my nail file, glasses/case, pills, and other things i use before bed those are just the normal things. (: That way its always there and if you wake up needing a tissue, or maybe your lips are chapped, i mean then its RIGHT THERE! lol. Personally I wake up in the night and need water so thats there too. Get a cute basket, i got mine for a dollar at the dollar general and its a little wicker basket with a pink bow! (:
