Mary there is a reason people say the "Bridgeport harness" looks like a saddle it is based on a type of saddle mounting harness called a "Bridgeport rig" it's a more secure system for mounting a saddle to a horse than just the girth strap used mostly for rough country trailrides

I know this video is 2 years old... however, if you happen to see this message I wanted to let you know you skipped one of is "gear." His life preserver! The 4th of July weekend (2015) you guys were playing in the water when you were home for that week. You demonstrated it by his pulling you while you were on your little blue blow up floaty. :D I LOVE watching him swim and play in the water!!! :D

Another benefit of the Ruff Wear Cloud Chaser Jacket is that it is a snug enough jacket that it works as a "Thunder Coat" snug hugger comfort when a dog has fear of storms or fireworks. We do have both a Thunder Shirt (Thunder Coat) and the Cloud Chaser Jacket that were each bought for different dogs and discovered how well the Cloud Chaser worked when we were not at home and that is all we had available during a terrible storm. So happy it worked!

Thank you so much for this video my service dog (we are still in training), so he is therapy dog right now along with medication reminder for me to take my meds and to put me to bed at a reasonable hour, he also warns me when he smells smoke. Anyhow, he gets road rash on his paws every time we have gone out. I think it is because he thinks he is pulling me in my wheelchair and tries to. He is so proud to be helping me that he walks with his head held high and his tail up in the air wagging all the way. I have been putting Vaseline on his paws before and after and have been looking for him some shoes. So finding this video is a blessing for him.

wolfsrule100 - Panda is meeting some of the requirements for a service dog 🐶. He needs to be able to perform task related to your disability. He needs to be under your control while in public and needs to be House broken. There's nothing that says you can't train your dog yourself... you could start by increasing Panda's service level by beginning with outings at pet friendly stores and events... There is absolutely no mention of trainers in ADA Law or regulations... no requirements for Certification or Patches or X amount of hours of training... Go by the US Gov websites... watch out for scams like NSAR... they try to make it look like they work for the DOJ... Yes DOJ is over ADA... but NSAR has no affiliation with the Department of Justice (DOJ). Training is necessary but ADA only really emphasizes the result: a trained Service Dog 🐶. How you get there is your business... though trainers can be helpful especially with difficult or unusual tasks... Be wary of Trainers who create layers that are not necessary or who act like they are necessary to the process... They can help facilitate but they have ZERO STATUS with the ADA and the relationship is solely between you and the trainer...

Oh Mary I love your channel and have been watching your channel since I started my SD journey back in 2014. I just got around to watching this video and was so disappointed to see an ID attached to the O2 tank vest. I'm sure you know that the DOJ says those are not legal documents but what you may not know is how those ID's hurt other SD teams. When the public that are not educated on the ADA see them they expect every SD to have one. Sometimes they get very aggressive with teams that don't waste money on a non legal document and can cause some handlers to not go out in public, other handlers will deal with the access issue with appropriate education and LEO aid but because of the stress/anxiety/panic may have to go to the ER because of the physical problems that occur. Please don't keep that ID on the vest and I hope it is never used to gain access as it has real harmful effects on other legitimate SD teams.

I have the same (black and white guardian gear) harness & it's our favorite. My dog is mobility as well - she helps transfer in and out of wheelchair, retrieves dropped items, opens and closes doors & cabinets, pulls the laundry basket, rings doorbells, picks items at the grocery store on shelves I can't reach (low) and pulls the chair like a sled dog! Pulling the chair is FAVORITE thing to do! She's so great-I love her A LOT. Here's a TIP: In order to walk with the dog, I can use a regular, 8 ft lease strapped over my shoulder (like a handbag strap-across my body) and then I have a car seat belt, made for dogs, that is short-maybe three feet long. I connect the metal clasp from the leash on my body to metal that slides into the receiver in the car. Then, the clasp on the other end of the seat belt connects to her harness. I wish I could show you - this is the PERFECT length and functionality. Took us awhile, but finally figured that one out. The best part about it, besides the perfect length, is the seat belt has a handle on the end that connects to the seat belt receiver in the car and when used as above, the handle ends up right where my hand is and provides extra stability and control. Sorry this is so long, but this solution has saved us so much aggravation and discomfort!

My dog has a harness very simpler to your second one, we got ours from a company called juilus k9, they have handles and patches that can go on them and even backpack bags that go on them. They are expensive in my opinion but totally worth it, glow in the dark for night adventures too! You gotta check them out they are awesome! Designed for pulling so I don’t see why forward momentum would be any different (I’m no expert tho) but they are super easy to put on with one buckle and you can get chest straps if you need more stability

I love seeing how much you guys love Ollie! This is so amazing. He is so lucky to be with both of you through this long and tough journey. I have binge watched so many videos and just needed to say that the video where you talk about having kids really touched me. Not the part of having kids specifically but the part where you talk about trusting God and I love your attitude towards every situation thrown in your lives. It's a huge example of faith which I had been doubting for many reasons in my life. So many things changed in my life since I watched that video. Trusting Him has opened so many doors and I am so happy! Thank you guys for being so honest and speaking of God's love. It changed my life!

This was my first video with Mary, years ago! I bought one of the Cloud Chaser jackets by Ruff Wear,on sale and i love it! It keeps my little working dog warm in the winter/rainy weather and not too hot in the summer. I love the jacket! It's thin enough not to add bulk! Hi,Mary i still love this great info about Oliver's service dog gear. I also did the same thing with the red leash for hands free walking where i can use my hand to give snap commands!! I chose red so people would see it better then black and red seems to be a good color for service dog gear! Plus red usually means "Stop" do not pet, think before petting for the most part. I found a red cool summer t-shirt at Dollarama,my dog where's this under her service vest for extra warmth and to highlight the service dog vest. Great video Mary!☺❤🐾

I know in the UK service dogs have to be tested and certificated to work as a service dog, like you can't just say your dog is one, I don't think you have mentioned it but did Ollie have to be tested to prove he would be a safe, good working dog, which he obviously is ! Also just wanted to say he is super cute and awesome so glad you are able to have him, hope he gets over this thing on his stomach.

Just wanted to say hi to all three of you! I appreciate your videos and I too have a Service Dog (Chesster) he is actually my 2nd as my first one is home and retired because he started having seizures. I understand you showing Oliver's first backpack, Chesster is Medical Alert /Psychiatric Service Animal as was my retired one, but my first SD was about 20lbs terrier mix. People thought he was small and well Chesster is only 4.5lbs. The Vet cleared him for work. Basically his mother rejected him as a baby which stunted his growth. The backpack he wears now is the one my 1st service dog out grew at 3 months old! I do have videos of him on my channel but only as a puppy, and my First SD (TheStig),but he is Chesster Puddin on FaceBook. We just say He is a small Service Dog with a Big Job! (oh and not that you would ask being disabled yourself ,but I was just gonna share my disabilities with you since you & your husband share so much with the world. I have PTSD (or PTSI some people what to changeq the name) with Amnesia. In 2011 I lost all my memories back to my childhood, friends, family, school, work history, my husband and even our daughter! Lucky for me I have a wonderful daughter who is close to me and very mature, she understand I didn't mean to forget. Plus an Amazing husband that I am lucky he made me fall in love with twice in my life! So even though I may never get my memories back, I truly am grateful for all my new memories! Plus the help of my Service Dog (and my 1st one too) I am able to go out any have a more "normal" life minus the world not knowing proper service dog etiquette, but I do my best to pay it forward by educating. I feel like with you having a popular channel and other working teams. It is only helping the world realize we need these dogs, like medical equipment, but we love them and aren't hurting them. The love us or we wouldn't be bonded as teams!) Anyways Thanks for Eveything!

I was wondering which of the ruffwear boots are best for everyday work for a service dog. I have heard the summit trex are best but ive also heard they slip off super easy. Thanks!!

I like the gear you have! I just wanted to note that you have the ID on one of the vests... But service dog IDs are not required for service dogs, and can make it harder for others who don't have these IDs following after yours. I figure you probably know this, and I am in no way being critical of it. I just wanted to double check that you knew :)

Jessica Eames their out there, if another handler has a dog that becomes gear shy or retires they may sell the gear. Most handlers don't sell gear on eBay, let it go, or places like that to make sure they aren't giving it to a non legitimate team.

Patches saying Service Dog are not necessary but of course one can use them... some people get confused when they don't see the Signage... That of course is on them and not on those who decided de to use the patch... What people often don't realize that a Service Dog wearing a patch and having "Certification" could be a fake Service Dog.... The Certification thing has been oversold by many trainers... who are not required either! Though training is necessary! Please understand that I know Oliver is 100% Legit... But the heart of ADA is the person who happens to have one or more disabilities and that's the first thing that makes him legit...

I have a light mobility in training dog. I heard that a stiff handle puts torque or bad pressure or something when using forward pull momentum, is that true? She’s still about a year away from doing forward momentum.

Púca Arts Yes but you don’t use the ridged handle for forward momentum. You use a pull strap for that.

+rachel bodfield You may already know this, just throwing it out there, just to make sure the dog is 2 years old or older before beginning weight bearing or heavy backpack wearing (since the joints are not yet fully formed). I hope that your son will be able to be all done with the oxygen soon, and in the mean time, I hope you will be able to find a great option for a backpack that works! Hang in there! You keep on being the great Momma you are for your son :)

How hard was it for you to get Ollie certified for public access? My family lives in Alberta and we are finding it almost impossible to certify our current dog for emotional support for my mom because he in not a puppy from an organization that they are started for day one on training.
