Thanks so much for posting this tutorial. You are a great teacher! I painted this using some watercolor pencils I found cleaning out my kids' old school supplies. It was nearly an entire box! My picture turned out a little differently than yours, but I still enjoyed myself. I am inspired to paint more to go with this little dragonfly. It makes me think of lazy summer days spent fishing at the pond. Thanks for sharing. I love watching your tutorials!

Beautiful Lindsay! I've been doing a series of floral and nature paintings for my mom and she asked for a dragonfly, and I have an eighth sheet of Arches rough to use, so this is serendipity! I also love the idea of decorating the mat! To be frank, I don't need any new watercolor pencils, but the pastel colors of this set remind me of the creaminess of the Caran D'ache crayons, so I may use those in addition to some pencils and paint!

This is simply beautiful, I love dragonflies and this is a must do! I love the WC pencils/brushes and wish I was in AZ already so I could order them. As a Canadian we do miss out on a lot of the specials offered in the States, I feel fortunate that we winter south and at least have a chance! I read a comment from another Canadian where you replied that you would check it out, that would be so awesome and appreciated! TFS
I order a set of 48 color pencils and a brush set. Also got a 10% off. Hope you could do more tutorials on color pencil. I love ❤️ the color pencil. But am completely new to drawing and coloring. Love your videos.

Great video again. Just beware people out there if you use the wet brush technique on wooden covered water colour pencils, try not to wet the wood too much and dry them before you put them away, because the wood can swell and rot breaking the pencil. I prefer these watercolour crayons in this video, as they will not do this. Thanks Lindsay.

I know it's been said, but I really, really like the stamping around the frame. I never thought of that. Not surprising since you are the expert. I also need to ask: I have watched so many of your videos I cannot remember where it was that you used gloss paper, meant for printing out photos, with the Gellinplate and other mixed media paints etc. You made a point of mentioning that this photo paper was good for a specific media and now I cannot recall. I scored 250 sheets that are 8 1/2 x 11 for $.99 at Goodwill so I thought I would give it a try. Thanks very much and thank you again for the video.
@thefrugalcrafter7 жыл бұрын
I don't recommend glossy photo paper on a gelliplate as it might stick to it but I use the photo paper with red rubber stamps. I color on the stamp with marker and stamp it on photo paper.

Wow, Lindsay, beautiful!!! And thank you so much...I have been looking and pondering purchasing both these woodless watercolor pencils and this brush set, but didn't know much about the quality. This helped me make up my mind! Also appreciate the discount offered. One review I read stated that they had a pencil break while using a hand-held sharpener on it. I've seen you use your craft knife to shave other pencils to sharpen--is that the technique you would use with these? I had also been looking at palettes to hold my shavings.....I don't like to waste supplies, either!! Thank you again.
@thefrugalcrafter7 жыл бұрын
+gimmedatstick I used a hand held and it worked fine. I use the knife of regular ones so I can just remove the wood and conserve the pigment.

Hi Lindsay, I have some Koh-i-noor woodless aquarelle pencils, they are wrapped in a plastic polymer, I have dropped mine on a concrete floor I thought they would smash to bits but the only damage was one pencil that lost maybe half a centimetre of its tip.

Hey Lindsay! I have a question about watercolor paper. I have 2 watercolor pads which are different brands and are both 140 lb cold press. While using the same color, water amount, timing, etc on a paper from each, one allowed me to make a watercolor bloom from a brush stroke, while the other retained the brush stroke and wouldn't budge at all. What would cause this to happen? Thanks!
@thefrugalcrafter7 жыл бұрын
there are many factors in making a sheet of paper, the materials they used (cotton or cellulose) and how much sizing in the paper. All paper brands are a bit different so if you find one you like make a not of it:)

@maureennevers90397 жыл бұрын
I love using watercolor pencils...I want to use colored pencils without water, and it is SO confusing. Most of the tutorials or reviews include using water to blend etc., whether they are watercolor or not, so I am finding it hard to get a pure picture. For instance, I like Inktense, but they have Inktense colored pencils, Inktense watercolor pencils, and Inktense pencils - ugh! What is a good colored pencil that does NOT need water to look vibrant or intense? So for things like coloring books, I'd love to use colored pencils but my Prismacolor watercolor pencils look SO muted without water, even though I CAN use them, they look lousy. Anyone have any ideas, info, suggestions??
@thefrugalcrafter7 жыл бұрын
I agree, watercolor pencils look best after water is applied. Wax or oil based pencils will look bright without solvents and feel less dry when coloring. For wax/oil pencils I like Derwent coloursoft, Prismacolor or Polychromos the best but they can be pricy.
