Phenomenal editing. Although you made the guy that stole the phone seem innocent I comparison to Steve Jobs. A thief shouldn’t be celebrated as if he’s innocent, and a pioneer (Jobs) shouldn’t be degraded as if he’s a monster. Amazing video editing, and I understand the editing choices even if I disagree ever so slightly. Amazing work!

You need to make a documentary about door dash. I own a restaurant and would love for you to come and I will open all my books and accounts. You will be shocked to know and see how door dash is manipulating and stealing from restaurants on daily basis. They are stealing BILLIONS in dollars every year and restaurants owners don’t know about it. Someone needs to talk about it and make a very big deal of it

I’ve heard similar stories from every restaurant owner I know in my area and also that they’re also notorious for adding restaurants that don’t want to be on DoorDash and didn’t even know they were on there. They’re not the only ones. I feel like John Olive or someone did a feature on this. It’s insane.
@AnonymousAccount51417 күн бұрын
From what I’ve seen restaurants already know this…but it’s still cheaper than setting up your own delivery service

Emotional and Amazing work from you guys! But you are right, lets never forget about those families who have lost loved ones. Next time we each buy an Apple Product, we need to remember those who are not as fortunate as us who have built what we have in our hands but will probably never own one themselves.

@AJ-wg7fj20 күн бұрын
While well-produced, this video is as manipulative as it claims Apple was in the whole situation. The overwrought, emotional clips of tech KZbinrs acting soooooo sad….it’s overboard and not believable. Bad acting. It also makes connections and implications that are unfair, particularly in the portion about the sad death of the young man who worked at Foxconn. Great work on the production, but the storytelling became cheap (after starting off pretty high-quality). This is the problem with pieces like this. If we hear sad music, if the narrator begins to communicate sadness with their vocals, oh yes….we must believe exactly what they’re inferring. People think “documentary” means “undeniably unbiased”. It doesn’t. Anybody who produces any media is looking to persuade, not merely inform, and that involves bias and manipulation. I also think it was pretty bold (to the point of legal issues) to recreate Steve Jobs’ voice using transcripts. The transformation from existing text into fake voice audio does not have a not non-existent impact on perception of the content. Yikes.
@twalker29420 күн бұрын
I had to scroll through all of the comments lavishing praise on this before I got to yours but I was to finally find someone saying exactly what I’m thinking. John’s narration was overly dramatic and emotionally manipulative. There are also many other issues that you accurately outlined. I almost turned this off after the bit about the Foxconn employee. The effort was there but the execution was seriously lacking.

Man, pivoting to the Foxconn story seemed like a real non-sequitur. I was writing for a huge tech blog during this time, and I was close to some of the people at Gizmodo. In fact, before they even published the story about the iPhone 4, someone messaged me earlier to tell me about it and started the chat with "you're going to shit your pants." I vividly remember all the events, and recall thinking at the time that Gizmodo was being capricious and pretty cavalier about the guy who lost the phone, and the guy who sold the phone. It's also illegal in California to knowingly purchase stolen property. They paid a guy $5,000 in possession of a device they knew didn't belong to him. I remember feeling zero remorse or any sense of injustice when Apple raided Jason Chen's house.

I was annoyed and upset last night that I ended up being stuck running errands during the scheduled livestream time of this doc-but then relieved (as a chronically late person myself) that it had been delayed. I had been gearing up to watch this all week so I instead watched the half-hour doc about Tim Cook with my partner who thinks most of the tech videos I watch are “dumb.” She really enjoyed that documentary, and when I mentioned that I wanted to watch this one, she actually told me to wait for her so she could watch it with me. Congratulations to Jern and Bern for presenting tech in a way that appeals even to the non-nerds outside of the sphere of tech KZbin. I’m so excited for this doc, and I’m sure it’s going to be great. Good on you for making sure it’s ready instead of on time. This year at least, even Apple can’t say they did the same thing 😂

The production quality, narrative structure, and overall presentation are comparable to high-caliber theatrical documentaries typically seen on major streaming platforms. Your ability to handle such complex and sensitive topics with both professionalism and artistic finesse is commendable. As well as this is made, I have to side with Apple on the Foxconn thing or at least the part about operational security. If I was a vendor making a highly competitive product, I don't think that I would act any differently when controlling the prototypes. Seems logical to tell the manufacturer that they are responsible for the security of the devices and therefore, should be responsible for an investigation. I wonder what the authors of the video would do in their place. Just let a prototype go missing? It's not like Apple demanded that Foxconn waterboard their employees. They demanded accountability just like any other company would. If Foxconn did not know how to properly investigate something like this, Apple should not be blamed. Now, we can have a broader debate about the moral standards of a company which intentionally produces its devices where its most profitable to them, disregarding that which is considered problematic in western culture. But it would be easy to make a scapegoat out of them instead of taking on the ones who propagate this system and business practices.
