It is true...there was/is a lot of trash on that beach (and a few others that weren't touristy). From my understanding, trash...and what to do with it is a concept. For instance...when I lived in Providence, RI as a child, we would throw our trash on the ground and think nothing of it. The term littering just wasn't a concept for us and 'everyone' did it...so much so that after a while you did not even see the trash. Then we moved to Virginia. And goodness gracious...the streets were so clean that we thought they sent people out to wash them everyday. Until we seen that we never noticed the trash in our home city (a place where so many of us had never been outside of) until we had something to directly contrast it with. In Virginia, we wouldn't dear throw a wrapper on the ground or the cup of a finished drink out of the window because regardless of what the law said, in Virginia it was just blasphemy. To the eye who has never had anything to directly contrast it against...the locals of that dear beach probably don't even notice the trash...they probably just see a place where they could release what they no longer needed. Should something be done about it? Of course...but until then I was just happy to see the Atlantic Ocean from the shores of Africa.Another thing is I chose not to comment on the state of this beach and to just focus on my appreciation for that land and that safe and sacred space because I knew I wasn't going to do anything about it. My current focus in Ghana is to help the village we support, possible the W.E.B. Du Bois center and another cause (you'll see in a later video) that I adore. But I so appreciate you all for watching my humble video :-)

I still see the " Beauty" in those less fortunate... As I look at this beach, I must say yes I think of home( America) where the beaches are so clean, yet there is so much corruption.. if only in America, a dirty beach was our only problem.. I can't say I don't notice the poverty, but I'm so overwhelmed by the " Beauty" of Africa, I try to keep in mind maybe they don't have the money or means to keep up the beach... Maybe those of us that are in a better position should show a bit more compassion. That's why people think that all we do in America is complain.... It's sad that those white women joined right in, while we somewhere fussing, let's watch their example.... And show our brothers and sisters that we are not above them, but along side of them

L. T. The people that leave their trash behind them when they go home also had ways of carrying it with them, full, when they arrived. If anything, it is easier to carry it back home. Governments don't have to provide everything, or be the people's babysitter. I'm with Tinesha; leave a place cleaner than you found it (or at least the same as you found it). I was shocked, to be honest, to see the state of this Ghana beach.

+L. T. This one should be earmarked as a Tourist Beach simply because it is right behind Black Star Square where a lot of dignitaries visits (ie president Clinton, the Obamas), major events (that 50K seated conference), plus a place where tourists would probably add to their list of Ghanaian must sees.

I would have been disappointed if it were named White Star Square. Thought the British took all the gold out of Ghana by now. The beach looks scary. You really need prayers and knowledge of swimming before you enter that water. I hope the sun is not burning hot when people are sitting on those chairs. How is the weather there? I saw in the news how Europe is blaming hot temperatures coming up from Africa, the Sahara Desert for their high temperatures. Even Norway, a country near the Arctic Circle has been experiencing high temperatures. Madrid had around 111 F.

African gold is different from the California gold mines. In Cali, the mines are dead. In Ghana the sand which are extracted end up as gold dust after 50 years. The government had to cordon off hilly gold dunes. All the rivers are basically gold rivers, and that is where we are fighting the Chinese who sneak in to pollute our waters looking for gold....
