Quick fix for stretched chains is to put an old bolt that is a fairly tight fit in one of the links. That will shorten the chain by half a link. To wash the dung spreader out fill it with water out of your lagoon and spread it on a field . Make sure you are driving into the wind or you will end up with a very dirty tractor!

I've been a mechanic for 34 years now . All down to the enthusiasm of my dad. I've got a lot to thank him for. Both your kids are a credit you Richard . And good luck to them both in what ever they do 👍👍👍👍👍👍

We used to put bolts between the links to shorten the chains

Yes I can smell the muck as I thought, then I realised the Cat had used her litter tray in the bathroom so I went chipalarter mining.🤪

As already mentioned put a bolt through one of the chain links, back in the day when we had a Howard 150 some of the chains would have 3 or 4 bolts in them. And if you do give it a good clean spray some old oil on, helps to keep the metal rot away👍

get straw out of the calf pens in the muck spreader that will clean it out when you spread it

A nice wet day job to sort the spreader lid out modify or fit a fresh ram on it and away to go.iget a lot of pride from repairing or modifying gear.

It's all just maintenance Richard, which will prolong the life of the spreader . I know your time is precious, but running equipment it's vital to stay on top of it . Great video , and best of luck with the repair.

I have just had this nasty thought when you said "If you get rid of your livestock were are you going to get your fertiliser from" it would have to be human poop and I am not carrying around an entrenching tool to dig a quick latrine when outside, blow that for a game of soldiers.🤔😂

you can put nuts and bolts in the links to shorten the hammers with out taking it apart

It's a shame that Harry couldn't be there. Then it would definitely have been quicker to spread manure. What about the tillage? And will there be corn again?

Lynx have come up with a new fragrance 'smells of the countryside'😃. in mole valley farmers you can buy packets of D shackles if you buy the right size ones you can take out a link or even two links.....as others have said you can put 12mm bolt through but its not long before there bashing the sides again as its only shortening the chain by half a link. surely its not a big job to put a few new bolts in to hold the lid on .......if it fell off and went inside the spreader the chains would destroy it in seconds

Not that anyone likes a backseat driver, but you said in the video you’ve been loading muck spreaders for over 40 years so how are you still digging holes in the field with the bucket? 😅😂😂😂

Well Rich i seen you using the loader on a few occasions and you wouldn't think you were at it for 30 years, We cant be good at everything, Loader work wouldn't be your strongest asset, Harry will be the man for the job in a few years hopefully.

Im sure its to the best of you're ability so you probably wouldn't take kindly to me slagging it.Thats what it's like when you comment here. There's a big mental health problem in farming and leaving negative comments on my videos or anybody else's doesnt help that. leave your negativity at home when watching my videos or jog on to someone elses
