1988-1999 GMC Chevy side mirror replacement

How to replace the side mirrors on your 88-99 GMC or Chevrolet truck. Same process for Tahoe, Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, and Silverado.

Passenger side was much harder. Having a 1/4" universal joint socket really helps with the 10mm. Also, the passenger side mirror harness was pulled tight and no way to even reach the connector with the door panel off. Discovered that inside the passenger side cabin, there is a plastic cover against the outside, like a kickplate near the heater blower. The door wiring harness is under there, and you can loosen up the bundle, then grab the mirror feed wire inside the large ribbed rubber grommet from the chassis to the door and tug just enough slack to now reach the connector from above. Snug it back tight after installation so the wire does not interfere with the window. GMC 1999 Suburban

Thanks. It was a big help. I stuffed a plastic store bag in the opening below the studs to catch any nuts I might drop. Luckily I didn't (I would have if I hadn't done that) and the original cover lifts up and out off of a plastic stud. I had no luck at all pulling straight out, but a little pry from the bottom did the trick.

Have you replaced the passenger side? It seems like a slightly smaller access and the door panel is different too.. The wire lead has no slack whatsoever and I can't access the connection.. Don't want to take off the panel! Ugh!

Yes i did that side as well. I did remove the panel

@@TheGaginator so I found taking off the panel did nothing.. I took a coat hanger and hooked it underneath around the wire connection .. That gave me positive hold on it even though It was a few inches into the fender /door.. A small flat screwdriver released the connector clip and I installed the mirror unit and made the plug connector mate with the screwdriver and we are good to go! Thanks for the reply! You video was a great help as I did both sides! 😉👌

@@TheGaginator I should say that taking off the panel definitely gave me a better access to the 3 bolts to the mirror.. So that's the good thing about pulling the door panel..
