To be fair. Nintendo backed out of it's contract with Sony because they had snuck in a clause that made it so they would retain all of the distributions rights, and would be taking a significantly larger portion of the profits for themselves. Granted Nintendo's lawyers should've read the contract better to have avoided the drama. But Sony was being incredibly greedy, and when the relatively smaller, less powerful Nintendo realized what was happening, they understandably panicked. I'm not saying what Nintendo did was ethical. But Sony was hardly innocent.

I have a feeling that if that deal went down nintendo wouldn't be around today. Sony was so huge back then they would have absorbed them in the coming years. Mario would have been a Sony IP.

12:40 Actually, Sony and Nintendo got a contract set up to develop games together. However, the Contract Nintendo signed with Sony gave Sony all rights to their IPs, and I think there was something about Nintendo not getting paid at all in it. You neglect to mention that the reason Nintendo abandoned the Sony deal is because Sony had deliberately allowed for a loop hole that would constitute to Sony earning ALL royalties on Software, even for Nintendo characters. It wasn't as random or mean spirited as you make it appear. It was an eye for an eye. Nintendo were betrayed, so they betrayed Sony.

Things like the Satellaview fascinates me. It's always fun to see how people back then thought a novel idea was going to be the next big thing, only to completely overlook a small, but very important detail. In the case of the unfortunately named BS games, the novelty of playing a game with a live broadcast sounds awesome, until you realize you need to play the games at a specific point in time to get the full experience, which gives the game far less replay value, if at all.

The bit about the Sony/Nintendo deal was really oversimplified. Nintendo had discovered that the contract Sony had written up essentially said that Nintendo would do all the work, but make no money. When they went to Sony about it, they refused to rework the contract, so Nintendo went to Phillips, (Sony's biggest competitor), and made the same deal, (with intentions to never actually follow through), as a way to try and get Sony to break the contract. Sony had made the PlayStation, (named after the Nintendo PlayStation they'd been codesigning, the prototype for which was found not long ago), as a middle finger to Nintendo. Ultimately the three companies sat down and figured something out, which was canceling all the contracts, and Phillips getting the rights to make a few games with Nintendo characters. All that being said, great series, I love them so far.

I think Zelda Links Awakening is little bit overlooked: It is more like the original one (top down levels mixed with side scrolling levels and a Overworld Map you can't see at the beginning) and it was more fun with this "item trading system": give Yoshi to Baby and get Dog food, or something this way). And it was fun with all these funny characters like Doktor Write how is in love with Christine but does not know, that she is a goat. Or the Eastereggs like taking Marin totthe gaming hall and she gets the shop keeper as a price. And the first Verison head very funny and good(!) german translation.

7:44 "SPECTACLE ROCK IS AN ENTRANCE TO DEATH." LOL Assuming Death Mountain was in the original Legend of Zelda, was Spectacle Rock an entrance to Death Mountain and that's what it means?? xD Also wanted to point out at around 11:46 Link does flips when jumping across the platforms, so I guess he does so in both Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening. It seems like I've heard people say he only does in Majora's Mask. ...My comment is really random. lol

Dude that live broadcast idea is freaking awesome! Someone should do this with NES Remix type games or Mario Maker maps. I could totally see some indie devs doing a live game jam where they let their games be played by a bunch of people and they can give commentary over it, like a live gaming podcast that a bunch of people play. How has no one revisited this idea?

You have a long way to go as far as narration and presentation. Your not bad and you’re well informed. Perhaps I’m used to more snappy KZbin personalties. I’m not saying you need to be like The Angry Video Game Nerd but there is a lot to learn about editing and presentation from these various personalities. Be yourself but I wouldn’t be so formal in my speech and presentation if I was you. Just a personal subjective point of view great content and great job presenting your research in an overall roundabout way from the detail the order of the videos and even bringing the timeline into this. All that is keeping me glued. The only Zelda game I played for a long period so far was the first. I tried Twilight Princess for the Wii but the controls were likely meant more for a traditional controller like the GameCube’s.

I know I already commented on this video, but after watching a commentary of Link: The Faces of Evil, I learned that the CD-i apparently had terrible specs. That is simply baffling. I think we all saw how huge the original CD-i was and it just begs the question, how could something that enormous have such miserable hardware? In a way, this makes Nintendo's decision to break their contract with Sony to go with Phillips instead even harsher in hindsight. True, I think Sony's add-on would have bombed anyway since CD technology was still too young at that point and software developers would probably have shoveled more FMV games than there should exist, but it probably would have been much more powerful than what the CD-i had achieved as a dedicated console.
