Exactly. At this point they are focusing more on the microsoft brand rather than the xbox brand. They are focusing more on ecosystem expansion and making money through mediocre gaming via multiple platforms rather than actually focusing on innovating gaming experiences through creativity and passion using the xbox. They have officially relegated the xbox console to a dead in the water limb of the microsoft brand. And by their own ecosystem expansion there is literally no reason to buy an xbox anymore. Gamepass isn't a bad idea on paper but if it doesn't have a good catalogue of up to date amazing games to choose from why would I jump on gamepass? Gamepass is mostly filled with games that came out years ago. People are looking for new and innovative. Not old and cheap. Gamepass is literally just about making money as quickly as possible versus actually trying to reach new bounds. The xbox series X has all that hardware to work with inside it and for what? This is basically the soft version of saying we are discontinuing the xbox brand.

Its entire purpose has been to gain market share through, at best, an unsustainable model that loses money that they can afford to lose (Sony and Nitendo can not afford the day 1 model). At worst, it is a model that can only ever make money through live service games, and by cutting corners during development, there is no incentive for them to create tremendous tripple AAA, single-player games. This is one of the funniest videos you've ever made. I was in stitches!! 🤣 I think the pressure has definitely got to Phil, he even said, in the interview, that he wasn't in a good place. Also, if they have a similar structure to PS, then he won't be the one on top of studio production, there would be a Herman Hulst, type figure, at Xbox too and they would probably be the one responsible for the frequency and quality of what comes out of their studios, not so much Phil. Either way, I agree, he said too many negative things in this interview, Jim and Herman must be in stitches right now.

Nah he said that because making great games doesn't line up with Xbox's long term strategy of going strictly cloud gaming. If they already believe that making great games isn't going to make a difference in the console war, and they aren't even looking at competing in the console market anymore then why would they need to reset anything? Just go full throttle on cloud gaming and hope you don't crash and burn, which they more than likely will.

Is it me or are we at Xbox always looking forward to the future but never really enjoying anything right now. Sony guys have games to play RIGHT NOW, while we're always stuck looking forward and being excited. We were looking forward to Halo, we then looked forward to Redfall, now we're looking forward to Forza and Starfield. We never really play anything great in the moment, our entire existence as a fan base is based on being excited for the future while PS5 guys play great games in the present

That's exactly what I did yesterday. GameStop is giving $380 (for now) for it. Ended up paying $146 (including ff16 preorder) out of pocket. Stayed up playing "horizon 2" and enjoying the system so far. I've been a loyal Xbox player for 20+ years (I did own a PS4 pro briefly)

I think Phil was simply laying out the Xbox division's strategy rather then he's own personal vision, hence why I don't think retiring Phil Spencer will change anything. That said, I don't know how they will market the Xbox brand going forth "Our goal isn't to beat the competition or that our success in bringing you the best games".

I can at least appreciate how friendly Phil Spencer is and how he has a natural personality of his own, albeit to fault. Not a lot of business people like him. Sadly, as the consumer even though I appreciate being able to connect with people, the results are ultimately what matters. Not everything is his fault obviously but I find Xbox's missteps to be quite puzzling for pretty much a decade at this point primarily as a PlayStation gamer. I don't think Phil Spencer would be talking about Xbox like how he has done if the company's current direction and strategy was actually working out or will pay off. Some things need to change at this point to be brutally honest. Definitely valid though that everybody suffers when one company doesn't perform how they should because competition breeds innovation.

Besides I'm well aware of businesspeople that pretend because they have charisma, and businesspeople who are actually being genuine and have the mindset of the consumer. You don't know me so I can tell that you don't know what you're talking about. The only reason why you (understandably so) don't care at all about how Phil carries himself is because Xbox hasn't been providing quality games consisnteny, which I agree with. I literally said in the first sentence that he comes across as friendly and personable which is appreciated but to a fault. I've never been an Xbox guy. Be better.

I don't blame Phil Spencer for every xbox issue. All I know is there's no way in hell im in charge, walking into playtest something like Redfall then giving it my seal of approval & especially at $70. I would request the latest build, play it myself & be able to say "no..this aint it. Either put it back in the oven (with suggestions on improvements) OR release it at $30-$40 *OR* release it at $70 & expect us to lose even more market share."

Game Pass & backwards compatibility, nobody cares about that. That caters to the minority of non gamers. Sony & Nintendo sell because of their exclusives & innovations. If Microsoft want to compete they have to bring different types of games to their consoles. If they focused on just old school beat em ups, Side scrollers, Airplane shooters stuff that was back in the 8-16 bit era & made a lot of those games, Xbox would sell more consoles.

I think it's safe to say Microsoft needs a course correction. And it may be on the way with all the studios theyve purchased in the recent years. One thing is for sure tho. They are a farcry from what they used to be in the 360 era. And two, Sony and Nintendo have doubled down on the first party games business model and its worked for them. Idk what Phil was thinking with what he said in that interview. I dont even game on my Xbox anymore, I stream all my shows and mostly watch KZbin on it nowadays.

Phil is correct on those points though. Xbox lost on Xbox One by not focusing on a digital marketplace. Sony and Nintendo make deals all the time with studios to get exclusives, this isn't anything new. What recent exclusives are out there for Xbox? none lol. As a business to try to compete now, he would be killing the company trying to compete with the console war, and by foucsing on Xbox Game Pass, he is making the Xbox as a service console more than anything else. Just that these studios haven't gave the games out to make that happen. I don't think people here don't read metrics or been paying attention to sells over the last years, or doing Xbox One days.

I have both Xbox and Ps5 and I’m still very upset about what I’m hearing . I wasn’t excited about star field when they announced it . Bethesda hasn’t made a working game in years . I knew redfall was gonna flop after deathloop flopped . Halo infinite was a heartbreaker and they’re not doing anything interesting with gears currently. Doesn’t help that 80% of our exclusives don’t even come out on Xbox , PS has its issues but at least every game they announce has actually come out .
