Fabrieze Jared focused on Sora/Riku because that's what his AskFM inbox was flooded with. Someone spammed him with a ton of SoRiku pictures, and nothing else. The pictures he showed in the video weren't just randomly pulled from the Internet; they were deliberately sent to him by someone. He didn't "pull various artists' pictures to make fun of them"; he showed his thoughts on several images that people sent to him specifically. I actually think it's pretty likely that whoever sent him the pictures was intending to provoke a reaction of some sort. The sender probably wanted Jared to do a reaction video, and they ended up getting what they wanted. I have no doubt in my mind that if someone had spammed him with Sora/Kairi pictures, he would have reacted in much the same way. And does it really matter, anyway? Personally, I don't think that, for example, preferring SoKai over SoRiku is necessarily homophobic at all. It's just a matter of what characters you think would go well together- the way I see it, the gender of the characters doesn't matter at all. I believe there is a difference between disliking homosexuals in general, and just disliking a particular homosexual pairing. The former is homophobia; the latter is just a matter of preference, just like any other ship. And just because Jared dislikes Sora/Riku doesn't mean that he's a homophobe. In general, I've been noticing something a lot lately, and it's been bugging me. (This statement is probably a bit controversial.) I know and accept that there is still a ton of homophobia in the world, and that it's a huge problem, and it's terrible. But I have noticed that a lot of people tend to try to see homophobia when there clearly isn't any present. (Not you, specifically; you have a valid point, even though I disagree. I just mean in general.) People are incredibly quick to call a simple preference homophobia, and personally, I think that it does more harm than good. As far as I know, the goal we're all working towards is having everyone be treated equally. Why, then, do people treat, for example, homosexual pairings differently than heterosexual ones? I've noticed it time and time again. If you mention that you find a heterosexual pairing gross or disgusting or unlikeable, people generally just shrug and go about their business. If you say the same thing about a homosexual pairing, though, people get up in arms and call you a homophobe. I don't really get it. And this leads me to my final comment: When I said that there are better ways to campaign for justice than commenting on these types of videos, I meant that there are much bigger problems that need attending to. There are plenty of people, and plenty of KZbin videos, out there that really are terrifyingly homophobic and offensive, and those are the ones that we should be worried about. Complaining about videos like this one that aren't even intended to be offensive is a waste of time and potentially harmful to the goal we're working towards. (Sorry for the long post/comment/rant. I’ll try to explain myself as best as I can (and as politely, too!) The Ask.FM spam is a legitimate point that I can see; if you’re spammed with something then you’re likely to make a reaction out of it, especially when you’re an entertainer. And I totally agree that disliking a pairing doesn’t automatically make you homophobic. It’s bizarre to accuse somebody of that just because they don’t ship this boy/boy ship or that girl/girl ship. It’s all written down to preference. “Why, then, do people treat, for example, homosexual pairings differently than heterosexual ones?” I’ll try my best to explain this one. I recognize it can be very upsetting for a group of people to suddenly come and diss something you equally have no control over, assuming you’re straight (if not then feel free to correct me; I’m assuming it here to make a point.) The difference is that when you identify as gay, you’re already more likely to face a lot more hatred. Some of it is extreme and leads to violence and bullying, while more “minor” acts of oppression see gay kids/young adults listen to their friends/relatives talk about how disgusting it is that they’ll never support it, etc. This is where you see a lot of young adults getting kicked out of their house, I guess. So when people say “this straight thing is disgusting!” yeah it might seem mean, I try not to do it myself a lot, but it happens because somebody is frustrated. It’s like… trying to take back something people have for so long convinced you was wrong. As a comparison, the best example I can think of right now is if you’re dealing with a kid who’s being really loud and obnoxious. You’re likely to walk out really annoyed and saying “I HATE kids!”, but it doesn’t mean you’re going to automatically hate the next kid who you see, especially if they’re a lot calmer. It’s something that happens in the lgbt+ community mostly as a way to 1) feel more power and positivity towards identities that have been/are being hated on and 2) a way to vent frustrations and anger. I recognize it doesn’t seem very “fair” or nice, but sometimes it’s the only thing lgbt+ people have after an entire day of “tr*nnies are so disgusting XD” “gay ppl are so gross lol”. The difference being that heterosexuals are a vast majority and they’re very, very unlikely to face the same oppression on a day-to-day basis. It’s the difference between the fact that people assume everybody is automatically straight, but that you have to “come out” as gay because it’s so different to what’s “normal.” It’s true that there are worse threats, but lgbt+ people online, especially kids, stand no chance on videos that are violently/terrifyingly homophobic/transphobic/etc. Starting in small steps, like a popular youtuber for a fanbase you like to participate in, is just one way for people to get their voice heard and hopefully let others understand. Bigger equality campaigning requires the support of a lot of people, y’know? Especially those who are less at a threat (e.g, a straight person speaking up for a gay person. Other straight people are more likely to listen to that voice than the “homo voice”). Like, when I spoke up on this video it was because a lot of my friends were upset about it! I thought, “Maybe if I try to be polite about things, I can get across to at least one person.” That’s a change right there. I also think it’d be nice of Jared to at least understand why people are giving the video such a backlash. People DO look for a problem a lot of a time where a problem doesn’t exist, but sometimes the only power we have is online, so if enough non-straight people are upset about something, then there may be a problem, even if it wasn’t intended. A lot of “-phobic” ideas are drilled into kids heads by environmental factors, like our families, so it’s really easy to not want to be this-phobic or that-phobic, but it still happens because, hey, you grew up that way. It’s not your fault, but the best thing you can do is acknowledge it and see how you can do better, as opposed to denying you can do anything wrong. (Hell, I was homophobic for a good portion of my childhood. It’s a work of progress, I guess.) Sorry for such a long rant, phew!! I hope it doesn't come off as like, nitpicky and intimidating either. I guess my only goal here is just to help explain why you see so many people getting angry, y'know?? I prefer to try and be polite but it doesn't make me better, people have their reasons I guess. Shipping is definitely fun for me. I'm a fan of SoKai, TerQua, and RokuXi. And I can see SoRiku and RokuNami as possibilities. But sometimes, they get pretty strange. Like, AkuRoku disgusts me because of the obvious age difference. AkuRoku would make Axel a pedophile... which is really, REALLY creepy, imo. But it gets much worse than that... I've seen Sora x Marluxia, which really scarred me for life. One time, a few friends and I spent a while trying to come up with the most ridiculous and terrifying ships possible. My favorite one that came out of that was Yen Sid x Cid, aka Yen Cid... That one was pretty hilarious. For all the people getting upset in this comments section, cut it out. Shipping is fun for many people, but not everyone has to like it, and not everyone has to approve of every ship. Cynical's opinions are just as valid as anyone else's. Sorry for the wall of text. I didn't realize how long this was until I'd written it xD

But try not to get ticked when people make fun of it. I mean I played Dream Drop distance. That... was many many many... many crates of gay. Everything i've watched so far just points to Sora having a dire case of the denial. He treats Kairi like a sibling, close, and carefully, and yet follows Riku around like a lovesick puppy. I really think Sora/Kairi will be canon but jeezus christ Square Enix everything you've established so far points to otherwise, if you're gonna put romance in your game, make it romantic, otherwise... This happens, the male protagonists have a stronger and more believable cause to get together than the main Male/Female duo. I think Riku/Sora as it stands right now has more cause to exist than the other. Which is...baffling to me, but it's true... Everything we get of Sora/Kairi is so... fragmented and shrouded in existentialism through other selves and wacko plotlines, where Riku and Sora just have a whole game establishing how far they'll go for each other. Yikes.

It's because what Sora and Riku have is true love(cheesy as fuck I know but deal with it, it's true. XD) People tend to equate true love with sexual, romantic gobbledygook (and by people I mean mostly girls) and I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but you're wrong. The most pure forms of love are similar to what a parent feels for their child. Add in sexuality to that? Nasty. Plus we all get to continue on as a species. But way too many people act like sex is the highest form of love, and that's sad. I'm sorry if I'm being too blunt, but that's what it is. Sad. Sexual relationships are great, but please. For the sake of yourself. Do not confuse sex for love. Sometimes love and sex do overlap. But far more often, they do not. And true love is rarest of all. I have a camera that can be set up to 30 seconds and I agree, I don't like KHX stuff either. If it's going to be done let Square Enix and Disney do it, but having said that I don't think Disney would allow that because the subject is too political and Disney wouldn't want to lose any customers over a video game.
