John did love her, but he cheated on her twice, killed about three people, and kidnapped his own child. He should have been strong enough to reject Rosie the Flusy and needed psychiatric help for cheating, kidnapping, and killing. I'm glad Fiz was able to find happiness later. She deserves it.
