Weapon wheel or on-the-fly switching wasn't implemented because the weapon animations are too big to do it, the game actually needs to pause to dump the data out of RAM and load up the new weapon. It's actually the same reason most last-gen FPS games are restricted to two weapon inventories and even those that aren't usually don't let you cycle your complete inventory.
@MilanPaunovicBalls9 жыл бұрын
CruelestChris I don't see a reason then why would, for example, Halo still use 2 weapon restriction. Continuity?
@amitaiavrahami49209 жыл бұрын
***** Maybe Platinum just thought "hmmm, we made a pretty awesome game... let's save that weapon switching mechanic for the next game." Go figure, it's a pretty standard mechanic so I was pretty surprised when it wasn't in this game.

***** I think in that case it's "because that's how Halo works" rather than because they actually have to. It's why they did it in the first one, though, so they could have higher-detail weapon models.

+Chinga3000 I guess now that Konami is going to focus on mobile games, Metal Gear Rising 2 is doomed never to be developed, right? Or will Kojima contact Platinum Games again once he has sorted everything out after his split with Konami? They'd need a new publisher, anyway, and I don't know who would do it. Probably not Capcom, considering they're not really on good terms with Platinum.

@Best KZbin channel the last of us part 2 it is, but the issue is that you want to compare 2 completely different games to each other, in tone, soundtrack, gameplay style, which isnt a fair comparision to both games, just because they are both games, doesnt mean you can make a comparision between the two.

I only think the plot was kinda absurd in the sense of , okay Raiden comes back to his old crazy ass muderous Jack the Ripper state of mind, and THAT'S IT! nothing's resolved, he regresses to his old persona and he doesn't come to terms with his dark past or anything, or has some sort of redemption, kinda fucked up, it's like in Samurai X, Kenshin went back to being Battousai and the plot ended there
@Neogears131210 жыл бұрын
do you know what kojima said about the sequel, he literally said that he would only let Pgames make a sequel if they made it about frank jager killing nanomachine zombies, and that they'll only let platinum make a sequel
@EntityDJI10 жыл бұрын
Well, I don't quite agree with people in this respect. Mainly because people seem to missing some important bits of plot and its parallels to our world. SPOILERS In fact I'd say Raiden's regression is very important, especially at the end. Why? Because he's been living a LIE! His whole philosophy of being "The Sword of Justice" wasn't something he truly believed in or did he fight for "The Sake of Humanity and Society". He had no purpose and just followed what others told him, both the AI in MGS2 and Sam tell him things like this and they're right. He's a murdering psychopath, a child solider who was forced into a sick obsession of enjoying pain and the combat high you get from being so close to death, much like Snake did in MGS1 only more intense. He didn't sick around the PMCs to protect people, subconsciously he did it because he just can not adjust to normal life. The blood lust inside him is far too strong to keep suppressed, and people also treat him poorly because he's a cyborg, a mechanical freak of nature. He justifies his killing by just brushing it under the guise of ,"OH WELL I'M A GOOD GUY! THESE OTHER SOLDIERS ARE EVIL CORPORATE MONKEYS!" When in truth they're not any different from him! And eventually he comes to the conclusion that he's not fighting for "Society", he's fighting so that people stop making more Jack the Rippers. And for the people that society forgets about and wants to ignore, the child soldiers, the refugees forced into military work, hell we're all using computers and stuff right now that have benefited from such practices like slave labor used in many third world countries. Its those elements of his repressed personality that made him fight harder, and actually be able to beat the final boss, reason won't work on people who are so far gone they refuse to believe anything else, and are so convinced they're right that everyone else who doesn't believe them is a threat. Not only that, but he comes to the realisation that the Society he's fighting for, isn't necessarily right or good, and equality doesn't necessarily mean that those in a dire situation get what they need. Especially if they're been mislead by someone for the intent of starting war. Which happens in game and is something that is happening today, I mean not to get TOO political and turn this into a flame war but just look at the Israeli and Palestine conflict. Many Extremist Israeli supporters want them to completely destroy Palestine, doesn't matter if they're men, women, children, babies, they've been so convinced that genocide is the only answer they completely lose their humanity. And this isn't the first time this has happened in history, remember Iraq? or what about WW2? How almost an entire country was dedicated to eradicating anything they though was genetically along with spreading mass antisemitism? Thats why I love his description of his reason for fighting, "PAIN, this is why I fight." Cause it doesn't just describe his sick pleasure for violence, when you think about it carefully its also about the pain of being the victim. His life as a child soldier, his struggle with the Ripper, his story in MGS2 and MGS4, he's been pushed around so much that now its time to let loose for people like him who really need the help but are invisible to the masses. And that he can still do the right thing when he's so messed up, because he's the only one who actually understands what they've been through. Guys like Armstrong believe themselves righteous and true, yet they commit such heinous acts like kidnapping kids and forcing them to become weapons with no remorse. Cause you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs right? And thats the problem, Armstrong treats people like "Eggs", like Raiden says he has no idea what its like to steal and kill just to survive. Then has the gaul to act like he's some defender of the American Dream at the cost of innocent lives. I may be over analysing this but I think its pretty strong reasoning for Raiden's plot. I mean I'm sure plenty of people still think Raiden story is stupid and thats OK, the game's still a platinum title to me!

EntityDJI jesus you spent way to much time on this comment
@EntityDJI10 жыл бұрын
shadowshredder89 Well its a very common complaint which I feel like people seem to not quite understand the importance of it. And the fact that, well, his violent nature is important. Not just about how he's trying to avoid it, because truthfully, he needs it now more than ever. And here he needs to be a "monster" in order to kill the other "monsters", he's not dealing with guys like Liquid/Solidus Snake and Vamp. Those guys compared to the MGRR bosses are cake walks! They revel in bloodshed and destruction, worst of all they're justifying it with broken logic, and they don't care about the technicalities they just want to watch the world burn. That plus if KZbin's gonna give me 71 lines to play with might as well, am I right? :P

@Clavitz110 жыл бұрын
that and no hard lock on with directional input tied to them like dmc1/3/4 had.
@weichiang8910 жыл бұрын
Clavitz Rain I actually didn't really have any issues with that due to the nature of the camera. DMC 3 (and the others) have a fixed camera that zooms in and out depending on the situation, so the lock on was important. Compared to Revengance which had a free camera and the fights emphasizing on the parry mechanice. Parrying a slight off screen enemy with a lock on would have been problematic. And IIRC, Revengance did have a lock on option, not just as good as DMC's (not to be confused with DmC).
@Clavitz110 жыл бұрын
understandable. I'm just too used to DMC and Darksider's hard lock on tied in with combat abilities that it works better for me. Raiden does have his own Stinger which would be easier used for me with a hard lock on. But I get what you're saying. To each their own haha.

You got one thing wrong about the controls. I used Type B controls since my first play, which swapped the Blade Mode sticks around so you can very easily direct your slash using the left stick, look around using the right stick, then use the face buttons to slash. I keep telling people [since like the game's release] to switch to Type B, but because they started playing using Type A/C or whatever and kept to it throughout, they think it feels really weird and have trouble switching and adapting to the controls again for Type B which is a far more logical setup... at least for the PS2/PS3 controllers.

goober2049 Well then try Type B, your mind will be blown. That said... nothing wrong with the default controls... but if people will complain about the stick flicking and how "Boohoo I can't do the slashes so this game is bullshit!" then that's when they need to switch control schemes. I personally find Type B is just more logical as a controls setup than the other Types.

Wasn't this video a bit short? You usually make lengthier videos, and I like it that way really. Sometime you should dissect the MGS series as a whole and discuss it's ironic lack of subtlety in it's narrative. And perhaps discuss MGS4 and how it's gameplay could have delivered a bit more than it did, mainly in terms of the linear level design and the seemingly tacked on DB system.

I do have a bit of a qualm with this review in how you mention bosses aren't introduced as much, mainly because each mission has 2-3 codec conversations about the boss you're going to face just before boss arenas that are pretty much context dumps. I think it was taken out mainly due to pacing issues after MGS4's cutscene-a-palooza. You are dead on about lock on being weird. The problem I have is being unable to swap targets to my knowledge, which made the first RAY fight annoying as hell.

I'm surprised on how The Gaming Brit can be so deep and serious on his reviews, but I think I prefer the pun-filled reviews of his

One of his critique's on Yahtzee that I find remarkable is when he says that Yahtzee can spend ages talking about how bad the game is but will turn around and say it's good at the end of the review, yet Razorfist often does the exact same thing. His Heavy Rain "review" was full of criticism yet he has often stated that he loves the game very much and considers it the best PS 3 exclusive.

Well it worked fine for me. Also i have a gripe with what you had to say about the stealth sections as in my expirence they worked perfectly often feeling like the old tenchu series. The items the game provides are far from useless as you actually need to use them if you wish to save all the civilians. I do understand what your getting at with the weapon switching but not everything needs to be DMC. Take the Ninja Gaiden games for example. They handle weapon switching in much the same way.

I heard it on the HateBit Podcast. He was talking about how much he hates the PS2, and hates the fact that his favorite game on the gamecube was ported to it... RE4. Which i think is utterly ridiculous. If my favorite game was ported to other systems so other people could play it, i'd say "GOOD! More people can love the game i love!" The only reason why I even heard this was because AlphaOmegaSin was plugging the Podcast, since he's in it, and i wanted to check it out...

"Rules of Nature." It's a part of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance's OST.

Is that other M in the trashcan in the intro?

The game would have been better if platinum games was allowed more time to work on it. Which is why I hope they make a sequel as well. Kojima himself said he'd want platinum games to work on a sequel to it and wouldn't pick anyone else. Not to mention lack of this gen constraints. I didn't hear anything about the codecs though did you watch all of them? They range from explaining how the sword can cut anything and character backgrounds.

Kojima has said that he is very happy with the sales (almost a mil BTW) would like 2 have Platinum Games make a sequel as soon as they can it might be about how how Raiden saved Sunny from the Patriots which was what the game was might 2 be about in the first place before it got caned & changed its still in the talks but MGR2 is very much in the works but its still @ a very early stage

A lot of action games run at 60FPS, even on consoles.

My only problem with the game is the camera since at times it does get in the way, but it doesn't make the game unplayable and to be honest, I can't play a boss fight without a perfectly synced soundtrack accompanying it.

To talk about that change Raiden makes with the least amount of spoilers as possible. It's a great example of where the story really fails. It trys conveying one message one second, then coveys the COMPLETE opposite the next, and then repeats this consistently till the end. It gets confusing, and pretty redundant. Especially when it literally changes nothing and only regresses Raiden's character, as the Brit said. The funny thing is even the Characters at one point just start saying "F*** it"
