I just brute forced my way through the columns puzzle too back in the day because they lock when you are correct. Good game design that the option is open to you. If you want to piddle around with this you can, if not then just click-ity click. Same deal with the sliding tile puzzle in the last episode. If you want this filler content then have at it, if not then you can still move on and get a full score.
