0:30 That ticking clock sound is also in Phantasmagoria, in that shop that's run by that woman who knows everything about the area... where you don't buy anything, you just talk to her and learn about stuff. This ticking clock sound is there, but you don't notice it as much because Adrienne and that owner of that store drown out the sound when they're talking. Here, there's usually no other sound at all, so that sound stands out. Of course, it's nothing compared to visiting the cuckoo clock shop. In 1994, I was 5. Even then, I knew about the King's Quest and Space Quest games because my brother played them. I was completely unaware of the existence of the Gabriel Knight series until about 10 years ago. I was in my mid 20's and these games had just turned 20. Gabriel is confused because he doesn't know why Grace is in Rittersburg. It's not like he asked her to come. He also doesn't understand how Grace could know anything since he knows that his library is locked. It's not like he had any way of knowing that Grace snuck into Gerde's room and stole the key. And he thinks "The Black Wolf" is unimportant because the hair at the crime scene was reddish brown. True, he should learn to trust Grace more, but we saw her behavior. True, her research was on point, but she did indeed act kinda crazy at times, so Gabriel wasn't entirely wrong when he said that she was losing it. 11:52 Good observation! 12:05 Adam is right. This is one of those facts that was in the werewolf book. This is why it's important to remember what was in it (not that I can judge after I admitted that I had trouble remembering what was in the book. I'm just saying don't repeat my mistakes and remember what's in the book). I don't really like Xavier. He's not very nice. I get that he's confused as to why Gabriel is there, but he should have trusted that there's a reason that his boss invited Gabriel into the club so soon. Once Gabriel was invited in, Xavier's attitude towards him should have changed. It did not. Yeah, as soon as FMV became a thing. Sierra should have stuck with it until the end. There was no reason to go 3D. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. GK3 would have been great in this style. Instead, they did it in 3D, and it does not look good. The graphics of GK3 are the worst thing about that game, even worse than any puzzle in that game, and that's saying a lot. At least it was still a regular Gabriel Knight game, as opposed to KQ8 which completely went off the rails. QFG5 is the best of those games, but even that was a huge downgrade from QFG4 in many ways. The artwork wasn't as good, the interface wasn't as good, the soundtrack may have sold well but wasn't as good as the QFG4 soundtrack IMO, the voice acting wasn't as good, QFG5 doesn't have John Rhys-Davies for some reason,... Sierra did a lot of things wrong in the late 1990's. But with this game, they got it absolutely right. Leber is a jerk. It's silly for him to get mad about Gabriel talking to the press, when Gabriel wouldn't have had to do that if Leber had just listened to him in the first place. To make matters worse, I don't think he believes in werewolves, so he won't be much help. 21:24 Me too! But not just the first one. The first 2. I think you'll find that the 2nd one is as good as the first one by the time you're done with it. I actually prefer the 2nd one, but both of the first 2 are classics. The police station music is the same melody as the first game, but there's a key difference: the drums. If you pay attention, you can hear that the drums are very different in this game compared to the first one, which gives is a different feel. I like it better in this game. And when I go back and do the first game again, I am disappointed by the police station music in that game... because I know I've heard it done better. 33:39 The point is that Gabriel believes that the zoo wolves do figure into this, but not in the way that the police thought. Gabriel thinks that they are not responsible for the killings, but they relate to the case in a way. You'll understand it more later. 36:01 Good question! I feel bad for the old lady that Leber was talking about (the one who saw the black wolf). She was telling the truth and no one believed her. And she kept witnessing more and more wolf attacks and still no one believed her. She knew that if people believed her, these attacks could be stopped. That had to be hard for her.

This stuff about werewolves is interesting. It's what makes it one of my favorite games. Most games don't give you this much in-depth information about your enemies. It's also important to remember this information later on. I learned that the hard way. I forgot 90% of it and ended up being confused about some things later on... and then when I replayed it, I was like "Oh! So that's why this happened later in the game. I should have known that this was going to happen because I should have remembered this." This is also when you fully understand what the prologue was showing you. It was the burning of the original black wolf. The woman and boy in there were the wife and son of the original black wolf. The scene in the dungeon is where we learn that Grace might have some Schattenjager instincts in her blood. Usually, only schattenjagers have visions like that. The 3rd game gives us more hints of her wanting to be a schattenjager. If they do a 4th game, I expect it to be what the 3rd game hinted it would be: Grace training to be a schattenjager. Mrs. Smith is annoying at first because she just barges in without explaining who she was or why she was there. But she actually proves to be pretty helpful. Fun Fact: Judith Drake (Mrs. Smith) appears on Young Sheldon in season 4 episode 11. She's much older then, but her voice is still recognizable.

I think the opening scene of chapter 2 is the only time we ever see New Orleans in this game, and I don't think we ever see it in the 3rd game. I can't tell whether or not Grace is lying to that customer about the "Accident" that Gabriel was in. His parents indeed died in a car accident when he was 8, and that surely affected his life and his personality. Wash she talking about that? Or did she just make that up? 9:26 Yeah, he can either live in this comfy, newly renovated castle, or he can go back to living in the back of a book store. I wonder which option he is going to choose. 15:37 Grace shouldn't need him to answer that question for her. She should be able to figure it out on her own. She's smart. 26:40 Sometimes, the game freezes at this exact moment. I think it depends on how long you've been playing. If you saved, then quit the game at the beginning of chapter 2, and then returned to the game, it's less likely to freeze here. If you've been playing nonstop from the very beginning and haven't saved and quit the game even once, it's more likely. This is a recurring issue with Sierra games from the 90's. With Phantasmagoria and Torin's Passage, if you play for more than an hour, the cursor will sort of freeze and you'll only be able to move it left and right; you'll never be able to move it up and down until you control-alt-delete out of the game. In King's Quest 5, if you play from the beginning to the end without ever saving and quitting, it usually freezes when you start the cheese machine. King's Quest 6 sometimes just quits after you've been playing for an hour. The worst is the 3rd Gabriel Knight game, which just freezes every 3 screens or so. Or at least, all of these things happen with these games on my computer. Could be different with yours. Yeah, I don't like Grace in this game. At least not at first. She's a jerk. Gerde did absolutely nothing wrong and she was perfectly nice. If I were in Gerde's position, I'd not let Grace stay there if she's gonna talk to me like that. She also doesn't seem to as as smart as I thought. She thought Gerde and Gabriel were having sex. But that's how these games go. In the first one, I started off not liking Gabriel himself, but by the end I was fine with him. This time, it's Grace who needed to mature. The character development of these 2 characters, as individuals and as a couple, is one of the most fascinating things you'll ever see in a video game. I liked her actress, though. The character was born in Japan and Joanne Takahashi is the only girl ever to play the character who ever looked like the character is supposed to look. Takahashi was actually born in San Francisco, but I guess she's from a Japanese family. Leah Remini did a great job, but she definitely does not look like Grace. In the first game, that did not matter because we didn't see the actors, but it mattered in this game. And in the 3rd game, the acting was fine but her voice... I'm not sure how to describe that voice that actress gave her but I'm not a huge fan. So, for me, Takahashi is the definite Grace actress just like Dean Erickson is the definitive Gabriel actor. No one is comparing their careers to those of Leah Remini and Tim Curry and no one is insulting those 2 legends. I just think that for these particular characters, Erickson and Takahashi were the best fit. Paramount Plus recently released the full episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch" called "Christmas Amnesia," the episode in which Kay Kuter (who did Huber in this game) appears. When I saw that episode, my reaction was "Whoa! That's Huber from Gabriel Knight 2!" It's one of my top 5 favorite episodes of that show and it's one of my favorite things to watch at this time of year.

"When the Saints Go Marching in" is in every game. I don't really like the version in the 3rd game, nor do I understand the point of going to the place where you hear it in the 3rd game. The 3rd game has a location that's completely pointless except to listen to another version of this song. There's a few pieces of music that are in multiple games. My 2 favorite pieces of music from the first game will appear later in this game, and a really cool variation of one of those tunes will also appear in the 3rd game. I'm not sure if the St. George's book shop theme is in this game or not; I know that piece of music is in the 3rd game. I agree: the first chapter lets us know that this is going to be a great game. Yeah, I think I have an idea where you got stuck in the 2nd chapter when you played it before. It's not just you. The game sometimes freezes at a certain point in chapter 2.
