Great overview Patrick. Two "super-user" tips - one thing I like to do is a take a narrow EQ on a specific band EQ channel .. turn it all the way up to 24db and scan around for unwanted sounds (e.g. harsh sounds or muddy sounds) and then when I've found the frequency, take it way down to eliminate it. (You can stack multiple EQs if you need to deal with more than 4 frequencies - just pay attention to overall volumes. Second, if you use reverb sends, add an EQ to your reverb track and lo-pass and hi-pass it - you'll find the reverb is clearer and more dramatic sounding.

Thanks for tips on EQ. I've always find it confusing. I understand frequency range and filters, but not when or where to apply in frequency range. You mention pre-set EQ in Garageband itself, which sounds easier to use than relying on guess work. Could you remind where to locate the pre-set EQ please? Thanks .

The presets? Open the EQ inside Smart controls and click on the drop down menu to the left.
