For selfish reasons I'd love to see a modded to hell DRZ series, but I've watched all your build series' multiple times, and whatever the next build is, I'm here for it. I do prefer dual sport/adv/sumo builds as that's what I ride, but they are all bangers! I go back all the time to relearn something from a past build when going to do something on my bike. I think I can speak for the majority of this channels subs and say we just love watching you wrench and mod bikes. You've taught and inspired me a ton! Great videos! As a WR250R owner I would like say on the behalf of the WR250R and WR250X community no the bike doesn't suck! LOL and yeah, it's not as fast as a DRZ400 but I would have to say the bike is no slouch for a RELIABLE 250cc motorcycle! (honestly with a couple of mods it would probably hang with the DRZ400 in a drag race quite well!) Oh and the suspension is significantly better than the CRF's, fully adjustable! keep up the great content and can't wait to see what The Garden Snake is cooking next!

Have you tried another platform? I have owned three WR250R (two X models) and bar far is the most overrated bike I ever owned. Suspension is from the late 80s and early 90s, no exaggeration and it pogo sticks. Currently on Africa Twin and DRZ, would buy a WR450R in a heartbeat with decent KYB suspension.
@ryansnyder44533 ай бұрын
@@RedEmpire36 Suspension from the late 80’s? There fully adjustable Upside down forks? Have you seen the suspension on the CRF300l stock? No adjustability and WAY too soft. Definitely would not mind a DRZ or other bikes similar tho. But I definitely don’t think the WR’s overrated!

@@ryansnyder4453 the 300l is bad no doubt about. And yes the WR250R suspension really is that old. Just try a DRZ, KTM 500, etc it's laughable how bad the wr250r is. Scooter motor.

@@RedEmpire36 The DRZ makes more power sure, but it isn't leagues ahead. I have ridden both (tuned WR and a jetted DRZ with 3x3 and E cams) and it basically boils down to the fact that the DRZ makes WR peak power way lower in the rev range. But in terms of how the engine responds and sounds etc, the WR is much snappier than the DRZ - almost like WR426 vs 2012+ WR450. If anything the DRZ felt more like a scooter to me

You built this bike into a pretty sick dual sport that is way more usable than the stock bike. The issue is that there is nothing more that you could have done to it to actually improve it. The funny part is, Honda could have actually delivered an actual 300cc with 32-33 hp and overall stiffer suspension for the exact same price and it would have been a massive hit.

I watched the whole series on the 300 and loved it. Im not that confident on stripping down my engine but did the suspension, airbox, canister delete and got a Yoshimura with a 550 tune. It made it way better to ride so i can only imagine what yours would be like. I got the Rally version because it was being sold real cheap with 9 miles on the clock. I found out that that is quite expensive after my first off on a trail. The Rally tower has a subframe that bends up as soon as you drop it and is impossible to twist back straight and all the lower plastics became junk at the same time. Mind you - not as much junk as my body with multiple broken ribs and a busted shoulder! The bike was cheaper and easier to fix... I plan to convert mine to a motard now when i can find the wheels in the UK. The bike is the lowest powered i have owned since i was learning in the 80's on a 125. But i just love tinkering with it. I love the low low maintenance and silly low fuel consumption. I can easily travel a couple of hundred miles with luggage at 70 to see friends and there is nothing 'more red'. Makes me feel 17 again and just for that it is a keeper for me.

I bought/built much the same bike last winter and have much the same feelings. Love the Race tech susp and Seat Concepts seat, Loved working with Ari on 301 BB kit as well as Maverick at 550 Perf for tuning, Did stage 4 (cam and ECU tune) along with ported head (mine was first on CNC machine via Ari) and all the bigger ergos made this bike enjoyable to ride. 38-39 Hp at peak and always enjoyed riding the bike - mostly western states BDRs. Continually telling people how easy to ride this bike is and have used as loaner to entry level riders often. I find myself wanting 10 more Hp so CRF450RL is next thought on project build. Likely change cams back to Stage 3 using 550 Perf tune to get more low end Hp vs peak Hp for average rider (only 2Hp swing but curious to ride difference). Trying to decide what to do with mine...keep for spare or sell. Great bike but enjoyable build has ran its course. Anyone interested in bike let me know... Think I am headed to owning three bikes. 250# 2 stroke 300 for technical trails and hard enduro races or a 500 class off road 4S bike, 350# bike for long distances / BDR rides which is a 690/701 only option in class, 450# ADV bike for longer pavement rides with dirt capability....and of course may need a BMW 1300 for paved rides with wife on back...and still gravel capable.
@Michael_Shay3 ай бұрын
The suspension thing is huge. My first bike was a 250l, then i got a DR650 and the difference surprised me and DR suspension kinda sucks too. Then I got my 701 and I realized how bad it was and how much of a difference better suspension makes. I can't speak to everyone's experience, but my 701 has been pretty bulletproof. You just gotta know what the known issues are and fix them ahead of time. The clutch slave will fail on pre-2021 bikes. The sidestand switch magnet likes to wiggle loose. Once those things are taken care of, it's such a capable and versatile bike. I paid $7500 for my 2019 with 2k miles on it. I've put another 7k miles on it since late January. I'm not really into street riding but I see sumo rims on marketplace for like $1k or less fairly often. I genuinely think it is the most versatile motorcycle on the market and the only thing it probably couldn't do is long-distance highway touring/2-up stuff. It can do the dual sport thing, the adventure thing, commuting. Swap the wheels and now you've got a canyon carver and sumo hooligan bike. I genuinely don't know of a bike that's more versatile.

It does well for light ADV riding and was a hoot at Touratech West this year. I would love a WR450X to go with it but I’m never going back to the classic DRZ. I rode a friend’s Husky 701SM which was nice but just bot what I’m interested in now. A Sherco 500SM is certainly tempting despite the higher maintenance as there’s a local dealer nearby.

Looking forward to the next build whatever it may be (hopefully dualsport/adv)👍🏻 You did an amazing job with the build series on this one, always appreciative to see you wrench and so I can learn different things. So, thanks. I've recently (and not reccently but these past couple months I did more seat time on the 250s then I have in years..) put a lot of time on a klx250s (09) and a crf250l (18), all I can say is I'm so glad I landed on the klx for my first bike and not the crf, it's seriously an underappreciated bike even though its been out forever. I actually really enjoyed putting the crf though its paces, and I actually enjoyed it more then I remembered. But there's still so many things that just don't hold a candle to my klx. I've been really curious if the 300 model bikes addressed anything to sway that opinion. It feels like just the other day they "updated" the bikes to become the 300's, but I really hope that in the coming years, the Japanese manufactures take some notes on current bike design and freshen up the klx, crf, wr, and give us more options in the 450 realm also. I would happily buy a klx again or wr/crf if they came out with a bike designed in this century. I honestly have no idea why yamaha has thown in the towel and given away sales in the 250-450 cc segment with not coming out with a new wr, it's beyond overdue. The t7 sales should indicate to them that people want to buy their bikes if they just made em. Anyways. Cheers, definitely looking forward to the next build.

I had a DRZ400SM, CRF300L, and now a 701SM. In terms of reliability they were and have been perfect. I hydrolocked the dizzer drained it, and it was fine. The CRF is really only worth if you accept its low expectations, and just fix a few things like suspension and power (in my opinion). Then its lower price of entry is great. Dizzers are dizzers. Love them or hate. The 690, 700, and 701 famiily at least in my experience has been excellent. However even my ~$12500 701 has probably $2000-$3000 in mods to have it how I wanted it.

My first bike was an MR. If you don’t know what that is, then your a lot younger. But I’ve had XR’s XL’s CR’s and CRFs because I’m a true believer in Honda’s. I’ve had other brands, but not as many as Honda’s. With that said, I love fuel injection. I’ve never had a problem with it. And if you want to talk about keeping things simple, there’s nothing more simple about not having to worry about how long you left gas in your carburetor. I admit, I wondered how that was going to work out. If you left bad gas in a fuel injected bike, what kind of havoc would it cause? So far, it’s been a dream come true. No hard starts, and it starts every time. That’s simplicity.

Got one of those bikes changed the suspension and put a full on dominator exhaust on it. Would a DNA air filter help me get more power out of through all rpms and if yes would I need to adjust anything else? I have been really looking into it but couldnt find a definite answer so far. Would appreciate the answer 🔥

Is there a reason you edit out the pauses in between your words? Trying to appeal to the ADD crowd?
Honestly, was looking at these bikes a few years ago, saw you're channel and was like "Oh neat i trust this guy" Then i saw what you had to do to make it usable for essentially the same thing i was gonna do with it and went "nah im not putting another 10 grand into a bike when i could get something that could do what this does stock."

Very cool! I’m making my XR150L into a 300cc. Should have around 30hp I think.

Jake, you should begin your old man phase and buy a new KLR 650. That's mostly a joke LOL.
