After an entire year, I suggest to try the 2nd part!! Lemon juice or white vinegar to neutralize Varta alcaline liquid damage, then clean with isoprop alcool, then pray it works! Otherwise, seome manual job to check. RMC could help more, maybe. Cheers, M

Enjoying the amiga videos even though I never owned one. Brings back memories of the hours spent typing in programs into my speccy that came free in magazines. Only to find the didn't work then you'd spend ages going through these programs bit by bit trying to resolve the issues. I also loved the BBC micro computer that my school had. There were some fun programs for that in the early 80s

I think the best thing you have bought here Gemma, is probably the hard drive, but once the 500+ has been shown some tlc, it will be back up and running again in no time. I bought my very first used A500 back in the mid 90's in its original box, with a haul of disks etc, (very similar to your lot here) and I was like a kid in a sweet shop 😀A few mates of mine already owned Amiga's back then, and my brother had one also, (and my eldest bro had an ST so I got the best of both 16 bit worlds back then 😀) so at some point I knew I had to have one of my own, whether new or used!! I was involved with the Amiga demo scene group Nerve Axis back in the early 90's, the groups manager was a very good friend of mine who i'm still in touch with, and although I did very little in terms of contributions to the group, apart from some little bits of graphics I drew in D-Paint, they were very fun times and I have so many fond memories of the circle of friends I had back then, with our shared love of the Amiga, and going to Amiga copy parties for the latest errrrr, Warez 😀They really were amazing times!! I remember in particular, 1993 being an amazing year for the Amiga for games and scene demos, and all these years later the Amiga STILL kicks arse, and people are just as passionate about it now as they were then.... Long may it continue I say :) Great Amiga videos Gemma, looking forward to see the next ones you do!!

I will always remember when we picked up our A600, it was an upgrade from the C64 and I couldnt keep my hands off of it. I think my folks had ideas we would use it creatively but we just played endless games on it, my all time favourites were the chaos engine and Cannon fodder. so chuffed to have picked up the Amiga mini a few weeks back its a real trip down memory lane without much fuss. PS you must be one of the lucky ones to have a partner who enjoys games enough to sign off on lady loft :)

Nice video! Look forward to seeing the rest. The bundle was def worth £50 despite the battery leakage. I would guess that it will be fixable and even worst case, if you was to strip the whole thing down and sell of the parts, you would get back more than £50. The part exchange with Retro Passion is a great way to go though.

I feel your pain. A few years ago I took my Amiga 500+ & A570 (cdtv) out of the loft to fire it up and relive some good times. Had a flashing error . I opened up the Amiga and saw exactly what you saw on yours. I was gutted. In anger I ripped out the battery and put the whole lot back in the loft. Never to be played again. Such a waste of kit that played a big part of my childhood. On a positive note, love your vids. Keep up the good work and enjoy your exchange. x

Yeah that 500+ needed some work, not impossible.. The tracks normally die around the battery and have to be remade, still a great a machine. Some people move all the chips to the Reamiga project. Looking forward to seeing how u got on with the Peroxide method, most issues with changing the colour with UV is patterns, also using direct sunlight is actually an option. But if its not too bad, then best leave it as its nostaligia . Good Job

I went kinda backwards with my Amiga ownership. I went from a Sega Mega Drive to a A500+. But in doing so I gained the ability to play those many turn based strategy titles that were lacking on the consoles. I spent many an hour on Civilisation! I think If was to get a classic Amiga the whole thing would need a good clean and recap before I even considered turning it on. When those old capacitors and especially those batteries go, they can cause some serious damage. I personally love watching those restoration videos from RMC The Cave, The 8-bit guy and Mark Fixes Stuff.

If the 590 still have the XT-ide inside, don't power it up before inspect the head read motor that should easily been able to move, if it's stuck it will kill the controller card of the disk.

Sounds interesting video series :) I have normal Amiga 500, but in the extra 512kb memory had real time clock, backed up with similar battery. I was lucky to catch it in time in the 2000's, when it just had started showing signs of corrosion, cutted it away and saved my 512kb memory extension from destruction. It still works today, but of course the real time clock is gone with the battery, no big deal as I can enter current time and date using Amiga OS if necessary.

Love the Amiga vids, I've got a few yellow plastic tank mouse shells and my C128 is shocking, instead of retro bright I'm going to aqua dip it, li bought a heap of disks some copies and some original, just be careful as if they haven't been stored correctly they suffer disk rot

Nice bundle. The battery leak is soooo common. Also look for a suparam add on rare but cool for the bigger games. I still collect for my amiga althou games are pretty hit and miss on if they will work or not....... Ofcourse there is always the gotek also.

@@TheGebs24 Maxed it out with the extra 2MB RAM in it, had a *huge* (physically and capacity) 380MB SCSI drive hanging off the back of it and ran a BBS occasionally with a blazing fast 2400BPS Dowty Quattro modem.

I'd be tempted to try and get your A500+ fixed rather than swapped out for an older (non plus) model if you can. The A500+ can be fitted with something like a TF536 accelerator card that then allows you to load all your games from a HDD using WHDLoad. An original (non plus) Amiga 500 doesn't have enough 'chip' memory for WHDLoad to work properly. There are replacement motherboards available (in funky colours) that you can get if the board is beyond repair, but yours looks like it *should* be fixable, although it may require some fix wires on the underside of the board to replace any broken traces.

When I see 500+ for sale in the wild, I always presume battery leak now, the one I got 2 years ago, I was lucky it was just some green dots and loads of vinegar and ipa fixed it but yours was pretty bad, nice part ex tho! Does it have 1mb chip ram mod?
