the geosyncline theory i know is a bit different from this. It was repllaced by the plate tectonics theory. You seem not mention this. Kindly elaborate this. And my layman reading in this topic define geosyncline theory mountain formation differently. there is no compression as you say, but rather bulging of the earth due to less density. This way oceans turn into lands and lands into oceans. This is geosycline theory I read about in wikipedia and some book. I know you better than I do, so kindly clarify
