hello master. Could you repeat this lesson in the Black chords?
@leonalexandre1451

I love your channel man, I'd like to understand what is the concept that explains the possibility of making the 3rd degree a dominant chord instead of a minor one. Thanks in advance. I play the guitar but I love to learn theory with church keyboardists.
@justin.m.drummond
@justin.m.drummond 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! I'm not sure specifically when your referring to this, could you put the time stamp. But if I understand what you are asking is because of the chord you are passing to. Like if you want to go to the 6 chord (normally minor) you can make the 3 a major and add the dominant 7. In the key of C for instance, E major w/ the dominant 7 to A minor is like doing a 5-1 in A minor. When targeting the 4 chord, you can use the 3 like a 1 chord putting the notes in the 1 chord over the 3 (extensions as well). Many times the passing chord depending on your target chord! Hope that makes sense, feel free to ask if it wasn't clear!
@leonalexandre1451
@leonalexandre1451 2 жыл бұрын
@@justin.m.drummond thank you very much for your reply. Ok I understand better! So 3 would be the 5 of 6?
@justin.m.drummond
@justin.m.drummond 2 жыл бұрын
@@leonalexandre1451 Yes exactly! 3 is the 5 of 6 so even though making the 3 a dominant chord is "out of the original key" it works because it leads to the next chord. Infact you can do this with any chord I believe its called "secondary dominant" if you want to look it up.
@leonalexandre1451
@leonalexandre1451 2 жыл бұрын
@@justin.m.drummond ok thanks! Haha I actually already know this concept but I didn't get that it was implied here, for example in jazz and/or in blues a lot of major chords are exchanged with dominant chords and I was wondering how was that even possible, other than just "cuz it sounds good" lol
@webaidr
@webaidr 2 жыл бұрын
There is a ” ghost note “ in the major scale. It’s not taught in mainstream music theory. That “ghost note” is the flattened 6th. That makes the 3 a dominant. Reference Barry Harris.👊🏽
