In my head canon, the ship was originally called the Hyperion, but some kind of accidental scrape took off the outer layer and revealed the logo of a former ship owner, Burton Exploratory, and so now the side of the ship reads Burtperion, the crew started referring to it as "the Burt," and the company decided it was cheaper to change the name than to repaint the hull.

Something I really appreciate about Free League is that for both Alien abd One Ring, they clearly went over the films abd the books to take specific quotes and model their rulebook chapters after them, even throwing in lines to help sell you on why a skill like Riddle or Song is a thing or why certain classes, races, or occupations get certain features. The attention to detail and passion for both of these series is just amazing.

First time listening to any of your APs, and I came here specifically because I saw you were playing the ALIEN RPG, which I absolutely love. I really enjoyed how much fun you were obviously having, how you all collaborated and shared ideas when making characters, and how the GM went through the rules in managable chunks - providing enough for people to make informed decisions but not overwhelming them. Another reason for a Colonial Marine on board a civilian freighter would be that a brand new piece of military hardware is going out to a a colony. The assignment of the marine is to introduce the colonists on how to handle and service the weapons. Basically one of the duties that military personnel have had in history since weapons got more complicated than a rock. :-)

One of my friends convinved me to try this game, never done a one shot before as I always thought campaigns were way better... that night lasted for 10 hours, and it was an incredible experience ! my friend (the GM) did an incredible job writing a one shot and being a gm/dm etc for the very first time. What made it so fun aswell is that he didnt rely on the typical tropes in alien and focused more on cults, use of alien technology, teleportation, a grusome alien queen thing that i still have no idea wtf was. Im saying this because i don't want people to think you HAVE to follow tropes and instead let the system itself empower you creativity! .... no idea why i wrote this, just want people to know this system is dope.... you should all try ... now for the next episode

This is the first _New Game, Who DIs?_ I've watched and really enjoy the concept. As a game designer (KULT, AMP, Through the Breach), it's quite interesting seeing a GM and players experiencing a new system for the first time. Very helpful, actually. I think the Alien game would be great to play a campaign that's just like mundane things in the characters' lives & stuff for a regular run or two BEFORE encountering the xenomorph. Hell - make it be random when you encounter it! Maybe it's right after the first one, maybe it like kinda falls into the middle of what they're doing on their third job? I mean, on one hand, that'd be kinda ...boring. But it WOULD be cool to get the like vibe of the crew of the Nostromo when Kane gets got. Make it maybe easier to RP the whole, "Oh, it fell off? Well, guess we're back to normal now!" Lol

Yeah. Depends on the players. For people who are really into role playing, not boring. I’d be into roleplaying as a contractor on a spaceship doing some outer space work… and not knowing when the craziness would begin. Even several sessions worth of heavy outer space background.

In 1983, way before the rpg my uncle used to lock us in the laundry room then throw scorpions in. If one of us got stung and died, they'd be slung out on the garden and soaked in vinegar.It was friggin' outrageous looking back now, but it had that same authentic, dangerous alien movie feel and my uncle was brilliant at whipping up atmosphere like that on a whim...he really was.

It's funny cause I went the opposite direction of troy. I wasn't allowed to watch R rated movies as a kid either, but when I was either 12 or 13 my mom took me to see the third movie in theaters. I actually wound up not being able to watch it due to some personal things I had going on at the time, but when I got a few years older and all 3 came on hbo in a row, I spent 9 hours slamming this epic story of Ripley. And I've definitely seen them at least a hundred times each.

Just showed my gf who never saw Aliens (since she grew up in Venezuela), and I havent seen the Aliens movie, myself, in like 15 years. So it was new to both of us kinda. And we both agreed that this 1986 movie blew the crap out of any modern movie in the past 30 years. It really is a trip to see how beautiful and upclose this movie gets considering there is zero computer graphics used. That just takes this film to a whole new level .

For me it's not the movies I enjoy most about the franchise it's the novels I have been reading them since the beginning. It's really about the novels and comics. Infact Disney just bought the franchise and took the comics away from DC. Marvels first Alien franchise comic comes out next week on the 28th. I do hope they continue the adventures of Zulu and Amanda Ripley. But they are probably going a different direction. If you love the Colonial Marines I recommend Bug Hunt edited by One of my favorite authors Jonathan Mayberry. He writes the amazingly intense Joe Ledger Novels. Which I also highly recommend. Bug Hunt is a short story anthology. It also had a continuation story from the Rage War Trilogy about the Colonial Marines. But both Alex White Novels are some of my favorites lately. The Cold Forge and Alien Into Charybdis. Read the Cold Forge first as Blue is an important character. Sorry I get really excited about Aliens. I own all the new RPG books that have come out. I also have colonial Marines field guide from the 90s. But I haven't been able to get my group to play yet. I'm hoping the GCP can convince them it's a fun game to play. I think I could run it really well because of my knowledge about how the Colonel Marines and corporate structure works. If liked Alien Resurrection sure there's some continuation novels like Original Sin. But the Cold Forge by Alex White really shows the shady corporate subculture.

I finished running one of the AP's for this game with a group of friends. After having been listening to Androids and Aliens and wanting to scratch that RPG itch my group ended up starting a campaign of Starfinder. Funny how things kind of come full circle!

Have you guys seen that kickstarter for a AI driven 3d dungeon builder? it looks amazing! but i can't remember the name of it atm. (“Dungeon Alchemist”, I had to look it up) One of the most dangerous (but still can very easily happen) things to happen to a space vessel, is fire. limited oxygen, often cramped compartments and no room to spare to go somewhere where the fire isn't. I feel cigar smoking would be even more reckless than it is on Earth.

So it took me a couple of days, but I got the answer to your question about the retro looking text straight from Joe. " I used Photoshop. I basically used an old school computer text font. Colored it green, then duplicated it and put it over itself and made a slight lighter color and reduced the opacity, then took both layers of text and added an outer glow in an even lighter green to mimic the light given off by the monitor. Hopefully that answers their question."

Ahh skid one of my fondest memories also was going to the movies with my cousins then having them over for the night and playing wresting on the NES. Star Man was the best. We also had RC Pro Am tournaments. Track and field was another game we would play a lot. Oh California Games also and of course about 8 hours of AD&D thaco for the win. Lol.

Outland is a fantastic movie! What Skid laid out about what his character night be is really interesting. PLEASE interview the designers to talk about the editorial decisions that OK-ed have a Kid character class. The character sheet looks terrible. Seems hard to find things on it and very busy.

A good reason why a colonial marine would be on the civilian ship? Maybe the marine is retired and got a job in a salvage crew working as a rough neck but because of the lifetime of training they never forget that they are a marine first. So you use the core talents of a colonial marine but rp a rough neck Or what if the marine got out of the core either by dishonorable discharge or just mustered out and became a mercenary working security on this particular mission. Or hired by the company to protect an asset.

alien 3 and resurrection to most fans dont exist. hell in the newest comic run by marvel timeline wise they made sure to place it before events of those films happen. so stuff about the xenomorph, universe and such is all built on top of prometheus, alien covenant, alien and aliens films. and i think the same for the newer alien games being fire team and dark decent. if ppl ask "so is ellen, newt and hicks alive?" depends. they havnt appeared in the comics yet so all fans know is they are still in sleep stasis from the end of aliens. "so is alien 3 and resurrection retconned?" so far sadly no. thats still up in the air ifr events will lead into it. for years supposedly a film to retcon events of 3 and beyond was suppos eto be made but held off. way comics is going there maybe a possibility they might do the retcon but not confirmed yet.
