Zephyr doesn't need to drop their bow to melee attack with flurry of blows. She's not using a melee stance, there are no requirements for her to be unarmed. The bow is specifically a 1+ handed weapon, she should be able to punch with her off hand (and kick) and spend an action to drop back into monastic archer stance. If she picked up a melee stance, that would be different. She should be doing the Oliver Queen thing and seamlessly switching between melee and ranged.

I love that this swarm literally forces everyone to move each round. I've notice in some games, people are still in the mindsets of wanting to stand in one place the entire combat.

Once you get full round actions in 1e it’s almost pitiful what one standard action does instead of a full round attack. So you’re really incentivized not to honestly.

PF2E's 3 action economy and the multiple attacks at increased penalties works so well for this reason. You're encouraged to shift movement and strategize with your team. I've never seen the Aid/Help action get used so much before. D&D 5E doesn't give such penalties and most attacks aren't long lasting AOEs, so in a standard combat, you're encouraged to stand around trading blows unless you're squishy and have alotta enemies bearing down on you.

Also, bows are 1 handed unless actively fired, so she's got a hand free. However, Monastic Archer Stance is one of the exclusive Strike ones so she can only do bow attacks *while in the stance*.

Kate does not have to worry about holding her bow & unarmed striking! the longbow (iirc every bow for that matter) stats say "hands: 1+" meaning that you only need both hands when actively firing an arrow, but otherwise it occupies only one hand - leaving the other free. so you can still use that other hand to punch stuff. furthermore unarmed strikes aren't only about punching - the rules say you can pretty much use any body part you want to use, from punching to kicking, to hip-check and headbutting, everything goes! the only caveat to this is when Zephyr is in her Monastic Archer stance already, she can only do strikes with her bow - if she wants to switch to punching, she has to leave that stance first (by stowing or dropping her bow). but when you guys are in exploration mode, with your weapons in hand, Zephyr can decide to punch, kick, headbutt anything until Kate decides to activate Monastic Archer stance!

The way I read it, by performing a melee Strike she leaves the stance. She doesn’t have to burn an action to leave the stance then can melee strike. The stance ends as soon as she violates the requirements of the stance. One of the requirements is “While in this stance, the only Strikes you can make are those using longbows, shortbows, or bows with the monk trait.” “A stance lasts until you get knocked out, until its requirements (if any) are violated, until the encounter ends, or until you enter a new stance, whichever comes first.” It does not say you must drop/unequip your bow to leave the stance, this is also why she can move while it the stance, moving does not violate the stance because it is not a “Strike”. Ps i used Archives of Nethys, so if they changed the wording vs what’s in the rulebook throw everything I said out 😅

But than when you pay attention to their expressions and mannerisms it's also feels more funny or engaging. Still not a huge fan of the edits switching between player so often. What a fun combat! Good tactics. Good use of splash damage. Even the stunning fist ruling I believe is technically correct though I think Troy was well within GM power to have ruled the swarm immune to it if he wanted to from logical reasoning but respect also sticking with technically RAW it worked. Something from the Fod I just realized and wanted to comment. Asta should 2-hand her katana until she activates Arcane Cascade. Since it’s a free action to remove a hand from her blade and she doesn’t get the bonus damage from having a free hand during Arcane Cascade until she activates it and she benefits from using 1d10 over 1d6 weapon dice until then.

You know a sword slash does not deal damage to one specific exact point In space. It deals damage in a slicing arc. Which is why it can damage a cloud of fairies for example. So that’s the logic why a targeted slash. Which could only fell one target. Can still deal damage to a small area. Aka a few fRies of the swarm.

Skid mentioned his 2nd amp was his last amp but he should have free amps when his Psyche is unleashed so he should still have 2 Focus Points still. Didn’t matter this fight but important to remember he should amp liberally when psyche is unleashed and just count FP outside of that. EDIT: Nvm, I was confused from the playtest version of the Psychic. Skid would have been out of FP at the end of the fight.

I've played and built a number of Psychics and have never heard of this rule. My only guess is you might be getting Amps confused with the bonus damage from Unleash Psyche, but those are two separate things.

Gotta say, no shade, no one's perfect, but Troy giving truly misleading information on that *nat 20* Recall Knowledge, calling the death effect "a character killer" is... i'd be genuinely a bit miffed at my GM. I'd be like yo for real can we not do that again, that was messed up, why do we even have dice if you're gonna give me a nat 1 effect on a nat 20. They really changed their tactics out of fear of that and... it's just sickened. It's basically meaningless out of combat. Do that on a barely-a-success, sure, fair. But on a nat 20? At that point you're just discouraging players from ever recalling knowledge, because even on a nat 20 they can just get outright false information.

Big Agree. In the remasters Player Core, Recall Knowledge allows the player to ask 1 question on success and 2 questions on critical success and the GM must answer truthfully. So you can do like "What are they weak against?" "What special abilities does it have?"
