I lived in Italy for 7 years and often return. So in the meantime I follow multiple vlogs of Italy. Besides Nikki of Positano and Kylie of Tuscany you have become the 3rd channel of my trichotomy. The amount of effort you 2 put in as videographers is compelling. You achieve the perfect blend of scenery, suggestions, info for foodies and just enough views of the 2 of you that are usually humorous that the vlog doesn't become all about you! Bravo

@@TheGlobalExpats Vicenza. I am retired US Army Special Forces, so ask a way, I can handle it. LOL As you begin your invasion of the mainland, don't forget sublime Paestum. 3 other suggestions. Fiesole, originally a hilltop Etruscan town later conquered by the Romans, It sits on a ridgeline overlooking Florence with incredible views. #7 bus from the train station will take you. Great place to stay/eat unwind after hectic day in Florence. Don't miss steep walk up to the Monastery and the Roman/Etruscan site, with a Roman amphitheater where most likely you will be the ONLY ones sitting there. When visiting Venice, I like to stay at Punta Sabbioni, a ferry ride out of Venice with a beach, restaurants and away from the overwhelming bustle that is Venice. And of course when Venice was a City State you would arrive by boat, so you will see the fortifications that protected it. When you get to the Dolomites, try a "via ferrata" with a guide. 2 pieces of advice on security...buy a battery-operated smoke/carbon monoxide device since many Italian apartments don't have one. About $20 bucks on Amazon. Also a "wedge door stop security alarm" $14 this prevents your door from opening and sets off an alarm. "in bocca al lupo"

@@TheGlobalExpats Yikes, definitely a small world....funny story. The Verona Arena had a concert given by Santana that I attended with a bunch of Paratroopers from Vicenza and we had front row seats. This was in the 70's and even @ rock concerts the It's were a bit reserved with their applause. Of course we were standing up and yelling and the lead singer asked who the hell we were! Good times! I never really hung out in Florence, we were always in Venice or the Dolomites climbing/skiing. I could tell some other stories but would get kicked off KZbin for sure. Being Sicilan(American) I have seen and been exposed to a lot of people talking about a lot of Sicilian cities and towns. All are very nice and have their own allures. Taormina was seen by me to be a touristy town. A place tourists know because they don't know the rest of Sicily too much. That said, it isn't just that. Taormina is absolutely fabulous. Wonderful. It has so much everything for it's size. The views are incredible.
@elaineblackhurst1509 Жыл бұрын
There’s a big difference between ‘…being touristy’ and having a lot of tourists; in spite of The White Lotus effect, Taormina remains the latter.
@LunnaJannah Жыл бұрын
@@elaineblackhurst1509so it’s just a fake beauty? Don’t understand ur comment? Nothing about Sicily is fake! I mean great artist and people of antiquity spoke of this town and worked there! Created great pieces there! Oscar Wilde. For one example. And for a reason. Just in case the word effect is meant literally in ur comment! It’s not a facade it’s realistic for our island nothing but amazing and magical

@@LunnaJannah You have completely misunderstood my comment; we have just returned from Sicily today including nine days in Taormina - it’s very, very busy, more so I think than usual for the first day of October. We have been going nearly every year for thirty years; I do not think Taormina touristy, but it *is* full of tourists - that is what I said and it is pretty much an accurate assessment. I think you need to address the person who wrote the original comment with which I did not agree, and neither it seems do you; Taormina is indeed a very special, magical, and unique destination - La perla dello Ionio.

A few quaint notes: we stayed in the airbnb home of admiral Bertram Ramsay's butler 😃 Just below the most expensive hotel in all of Taormina, below also the the amphitheatre. We had a huge roof terracce overlooking all of Taormina, and piano music floating down from the hotel. Compared to Taormina prices this was a throwaway, with less than 30 Euro per person and night. Very romantic. That said, Taormina was too touristic for us. The small local market had to be found after some small alleyways at 8a.m. in the morning - lateron you cannot even see the old buildings due to all the floods of tourists by the busload. Too"posh" for us.

Would this be a good place for a retired American expat to live? Does it seem to be affordable for a retiree?
@TheGlobalExpats2 жыл бұрын
Hey Larry, as much as we would love to give you a definitive answer we are definitely not experts on the topic, however, we can point you in the right direction! Facebook is probably your best source of information, there are numerous groups to join that cover moving to Sicily/Italy and the process involved in it. I have seen multiple posts asking about Americans retiring in Italy so start with these groups: "Visit Sicily", "Expats Living in Sicily", "Expats Living in Italy", and "Ultimate Italy" Good luck and we hope everything works out for you! 🥰

Did u guys walk everywhere or did u use car?
@TheGlobalExpats3 жыл бұрын
Hey Noemi, we just walked everywhere! When we arrived at the Taormina train station though, we did take the city bus to get to the top of the hill because it is waaaayyyy too steep to climb 😂 that costs €1 per person. Also, to get down to the beach & Isola Bella, we took the cable car, which was about a 5 minute ride and €3 each way. Hope that helps! 🤗

@@TheGlobalExpats thank you so much! I visited yesterday with my friend and the bus put us on top of the hill. The city and the Isola Bella were beautiful! Thanks to your video we even ate the delicious pistacchio ice cream at Nove ❤️ great vid

from the min.2.36 we talk about a submarine, This is a faithful reproduction, made at the Military Maritime Arsenal of Taranto on the instructions of the Ministry of Marine Defense. of the famous attack vehicle of the Italian Navy, technically called "slow running torpedo" and "pig" in marine jargon. because of its squat shape and its explosive warhead. On this vehicle he met glorious death. disappearing into the sea. the diving sergeant Salvatore Leone, from Taormina. silver medal for military valor. to memory. " This is the bronze plaque that makes a fine show of itself in the public garden of Taormina, placed behind the slow-running torpedo. In our wandering to admire the beauties of Italy, visiting Taormina and Sicily oriented, we discovered this monument to the Italian sailor

Is not a submarine is a "Maiale", a bomb driven by sub, mainly used in WW2.

It's very interesting, Edgardo! 🥰

The submarine is a "maiale" (pig) and it's from second world war, it's a bomb and special force scuba diver (called frog men) had to ride it like a horse and direct it against the enemy ship and try to leave it at the last moment.
