A Christmas Story ~ The Little Match Girl ~ Merry Christmas

The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen ~ ♪ Enya
On a cold New Year's Eve, a poor girl tries to sell matches in the street. She is freezing badly, but she is afraid to go home because her father will beat her for not selling any matches. She takes shelter in a nook and lights the matches to warm herself. In their glow, she sees several lovely visions including a Christmas tree and a holiday feast. The girl looks skyward, sees a shooting star, and remembers her deceased grandmother saying that such a falling star means someone died and is going into Heaven. As she lights her next match, she sees a vision of her grandmother, the only person to have treated her with love and kindness. She strikes one match after another to keep the vision of her grandmother nearby for as long as she can. The child dies and her grandmother carries her soul to Heaven. The next morning, passers-by find the dead child in the nook.

Even though I am an atheist, every winter when the temperature drops below 30F, I go out at night with a backpack full of warm soup and give it to anyone who needs it. I do it because of this story. I live in New York City, and there are many people who have ended up needing it. Kindness is its own reward.

This is clearly NOT by Disney. After much detective work, I've found that this is a Japanese produced short film from 1976 with a title romanized as マッチうりの少女. It was a part of an anthology series called まんが世界昔ばなし and was broadcast on TBS.

This is a very real and sad reality of the time. I heard this story from my grandparents in my youth (as they were from sweeden/demark). But as sad as the story is and the hardships the girl experienced in the end she was taken away from her pain and suffering to eternal joy with our Lord and savior. +Gloria Franchi No this is definitely not an american animated film and it was not produced by Walt Disney. The animation is japanese and similar to the animation used in the 1970ies series like "Pinocchio" or "Heidi" (Nippon Animation), so it was probably made in the 70ies, when Walt Disney was already dead. The Disney film was made in 2006 and the girl has black hair. Nevertheless this is a beautiful film and beautifully put together with the wonderful voice of Enya

I'm just now discovering this tale although I could have sworn I heard this story years ago and even now it's still heartbreaking for me this little girl is abused by her father and forced to sell matches to make a living. Hearing this tale I wanted to beat the shit out of the father but the little girl no longer has to suffer his wrath and is reunited with her grandmother. Now her dad has to go out and be forced to make his own living but what gets me even more than the dad abusing his daughter is that people on the street wouldn't stop to help the little girl.

I had a dream one night when I was involved in the story a field reporter, when the role of the girl selling matches is portrayed by my beautiful real life all time favorite. In my dream, she was pronounced dead at the scene when she was laying down outside in the snow, then I as the field reporter, lifted her up from the snow and the family that was nearby as a courtesy asked for me to bring her into their house, having the feeling that she would still live if I were to bring her into the warm house. I placed her on a couch and the housewife and I worked together to turn the couch to the direction where it would be facing the fireplace with a Christmas Tree adjacent, she remained asleep for quite a period of time, as nobody was sure as to whether she was dead or if she was alive, I felt her body gradually heating up and that she was still breathing, which provided me a clue that she is still alive and that she is recovering. Later on, her eyes gradually begin to open and she wakes up, not knowing if she is envisioning or if she is really in front of a Christmas Tree and a lit fireplace, until then was when the housewife told her that she was found in the snow by a reporter and then brought into the house. After knowing that it is me, the reporter who brought her into their house, she befriends me. It was then when she declared to the media press that she was forced to sell matches out in the cold winter by her father, the story went viral and her father was then subject to arrest, taken into custody, and she was able to return back to her own home and was also given a settlement to cover the renovation of the house, the remaining mortgage, as well as for her own personal spending money. She brought me with her to go mall shopping to get her the apparel she needed for her personal use, as well as additional gears that are necessary for her to live her life. At the other family's house, she was treated with a portion of the supper that they provided, and I was also treated as well, the family treated me with a portion of their supper as a reward for what I did, and for her because she had the entire previous night suffering with hunger. While I was with her at the mall, the people who were passing by didn't actually know that she had suffered the previous night in the cold since we were happily walking with each other along the corridors and smiling ear to ear.

At the other family's house, she was treated with a portion of the supper that they provided, and I was also treated as well, the family treated me with a portion of their supper as a reward for what I did, and for her because she had the entire previous night suffering with hunger. While I was with her at the mall, the people who were passing by didn't actually know that she had suffered the previous night in the cold since we were happily walking with each other along the corridors and smiling ear to ear.

+Family Is Everything What I did was that I actually lifted her out of the snow, the rich merchant whose house that she was looking into noticed all those news media and the reporters, seeing a line of news vans nearby the scene. They came out to see what's happening and at that time even the coroner's van was present. The rich merchant was courteous and told me that I could kindly bring her into their house and place her on the couch. She later on woke up and was actually not dead.
