I agree with Tom's strategy on tax diversification - contribute to your 401(k) up until the company match and then switch over to a tax efficient strategy.

Roth IRA is good. Problem: Annual limits to contributions, income discriminatory and exposure to risk (what the money is invested in). The very people who'd love Roth and benefit most can't get 'em.

Big Red no homie...you're not putting $18k per year in a Roth...the limit is $5500...and if you make over $126,000 per year (I believe that's still the number), you can't use a Roth

That’s where properly designed permanent life insurance comes in to play to act as an accumulation vehicle with no annual contribution limits or age limiting access requirements.
