@ no they made a trade for Justin fields. It was a conditional pick based on playing time that turns from a 6th to a fourth round pick if fields plays more than 50% of the snaps. So why would the Steelers play fields when it really just loses them a better pick and Russ was playing quite well until recently.

@Longdistance-b3m I think SF's front office has already allocated money for Purdy's next contract. I also think that they have a front office that is great at making the math work. The evidence of this is the fact that they have already signed a bunch of their best players to huge contracts and they still have the most cap space in the NFL. The Niners have guys who are willing to restructure their contracts in order to continue getting better as a team. I also think they could trade Debo as well as CMC knowing that the receivers and running backs behind them are still good and more than capable. The hardest thing in football to find is a young quarterback that has the talent to be a franchise quarterback. It is so hard to get the right quarterback that fits your system. SF has that in Purdy and they would be dumb to let him go somewhere else.

Saying 1 solid year illustrates that you are unaware of ow well he actually played in Carolina where he went 8-9 with that poor roster - all other QBs have gone 7-39 there, including Baker 1-5. Shanahan and KOC both saw enough there. He has always had the talent. Former QBs that analyse his play consistently talk about the high level of Sam's processing and throws. But yes, many fans won't understand QB play with that level of sophistication, so they might see it as a one year wonder. All the more reason for the Vikes to extend him, and both dispel that narrative and drive his trade value up even higher.
