Arcade games have a _lot_ of lore. Like, did you know about the lore for one of the Space Invaders games? In 2073, a hyper-intelligent race of aliens found a Space Invaders machine floating in space after it broke away from a garbage ship, and the aliens then invaded the Earth in the year 2091, with their attack strategy based on the video game. I am *not making any of this up.*

Don’t forget about Dig Dug’s best appearance: the *officially licensed* Mappy animated web series, where Mappy works at the company _Nyamco_ because he suspects its boss, the cat from the arcade game, is using the company as a front for illegal activity. The other office workers are various Namco characters including Mappy’s two best friends, Dig Dug and Sky Kid.

The reason for Taizo's divorce with his wife is actually a bit different in the Namco X Capcom continuity, they vaguely imply something regarding a tragic event. That is never 100% elaborated upon. And also Taizo is a freaking Digger from Megaman Legends in this continuity! And, I really wish he and his wife still appeared on the Project X Zone duology. As I felt that the whole thing with the event that led to their divorce was building up to something that just... Never came.

Though, Namco High screwed up and made Kissy (referred to here as Toby Masuyo) a teenager (maybe young adult?) who is very close friends with 19-year-old Namco High student Hiromi Tengenji from Burning Force. Somehow, the writers missed the fact that Tobi Masuyo is Dig Dug's ex-wife and screwed up the timeline as a result. But even with that mistake, I still quite enjoyed both Hiromi's story (the one that featured Toby Masuyo) and Mr. Driller's story.

If you want to see how deep the Dig Dug lore can be you can always check the UGSF Timeline (Dig Dug, Mr Driller and Baraduke are part of it) wich includes games like the entire Ace Combat series (tho canonically the UGSF timeline starts with AC3 and AH and Infinity are not canon) Galaxian, Galaga, Bounty Hounds, Star Luster, Starblade and it cancelled sequel Starblade Operation Blue Planet, Mizuiro Blood wich is a weird comedy game with the style of Taiko but it somehow has a blog sequel that has an extremely depresing epilogue that connects it directly with Operation Blue Planet, a cancelled strategy game named New Space Order and many many more

Add on Homestuck's creator writing the dating sim, Toby Fox's connections to Homestuck having written some of it's music, and you can connect Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade, Undertale, and Dig Dug all together. Dig Dug's lore and connections go deeper than The New World and Alrest combined.

Thank you for doing a video on Dig Dug lore, his name is Taizo hori and that's more than we know about Pacman. Do a lore video on him, that would be interesting!

You left out Dig Dug's role in the Mappy web cartoon. Last I knew people had uploaded it all to KZbin and its fantastic.

There is another dig dug game not mentioned here It's called dig dug and it was released on you guessed it the Game boy because for some reason the Game boy got a lot of games that were just named the same as the arcade game but with completely different gameplay most famously being donkey Kong. This version of dig dug has the original dig duk in it and then it has a second mode where the enemies have unlimited lives so they just keep responding if you kill them But your objective is to collect the key and get to the door and it's kind of a puzzle game.

Honestly dig dug is very good videogame, I can believe the first time I heard of it was wen I played it in the pac man party arcade machine.

My experience with finding out Dig Dug 2 exists is pretty similar lol. I was at a local retro game store and wanted to get Dig Dug on the NES and picked up dig dug 2 on accident and didn't notice the Roman numeral until I started playing. All I remember is going "what the hell is this?"

2:38 I was gonna bring up how that's also a kink if you didn't, but you actually beat me to it! Most people would just make an inflation joke and move on. Kudos for you! ...if that even means anything for this context.

I never knew Dig Dug was this deep and rich in lore! For a game that originally was about digging underground and inflating monsters to make them explode this video shows that it's more than that! It's an epic and long story with plot! I'll never look at Dig Dug the same again! lol

I'm more shocked that Chubby Checker, the singer who sang "Let's Twist Again", remade his song just for Dig Dug commercial campaign 2 decades later. I just CAN'T BELIEVE HE DID THIS! I love "Let's Twist Again" but...wow..just wow! :O Really nice video!

I get that it's pure nostalgia, but I loved the hell out of Dig Dug II on the NES. I never even played the first until many years later. Still prefer II over the first. So yeah, this kid was quite happy to have received that gift. Still play it occasionally to this day.

I'm always amazed at how ahead of time Namco is. It doesn't always pay off for them, but at least it shows that they aren't afraid to be creative. Another thing that amazes me is their ability to create addictive games, perhaps because in the beginning they specialized in taking coins from players in arcades. MR.Driller is one of the best examples of the kind of game that you think "I'll play it just one more time", only to try again some 10x in a row.

I found Dig Dug 2 on complete accident as well... well, not the NES version, I was making my own arcade with MAME and a bunch of ROMs on Emuparadise when you could still use that without Chrome Extensions and when I went to find Dig Dug, I found the sequel. I honestly like DD2 a lot more, it's very satisfying clearing large chunks of land with enemies on top of them, game gives out extra lives like no one's business. Namco Museum Arrangement on PS2 was one of the first games I ever got for PS2 and Dig Dug Arrangement, along with Pac-Man Arrangement, are the games I'd waste hours of my time on, they're like if Namco classics got SNES ports, it's bigger, better and a lot more fun. I remember seeing ads for Digging Strike, I had no idea about the Mr. Driller sub plot though, I don't think I've heard of him until I was nearing adulthood. I had a PS1 but I haven't really seen a lot of PS1 games as I was growing up, the PS2 started phasing everything out. Mr. Driller's style is very nice Wasn't Dig Dug Deeper made by Hasbro? They made a lot of updated arcade classics in the 90's huh? Valkyrie in the Namco High game looks like a Gumball character, there's a lot of weird art choices going on there.

It should also be noted that DigDug was a main character in the official Mappy web series along with Sky Kid. The Mappy show is... well its something. Its like a diet Khonjin House. I'd love it if you were to check it out cause apparently there's possibly more Namco shows out there.

Mappy is the main character in that show. Dig Dug is a secondary character serving as main character's best friend. Sky Kid(Blue Max) is a comic relief, and Goro is Mappy's arch-nemesis.
