The best part of this event is not two movies competing with one another but rather supporting each other giving audiences two unique movies in it's own way that went on to become box office hits and recieved critical and audience acclaim. Love both movies 🙌

I didn't think I was gonna like barbie at all. But it was so creatively bizarre and it had a really good message. Oppenheimer on the other hand, is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's so haunting and terrifying.

You know what's funny? My Mom wasn't interested in watching Barbie, even if she grew up playing with Barbies, so we watched Oppenheimer cause we expected it for months (including me when it was announced), we love historical/period dramas, and we already liked Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy films, Robert Downey Jr is one of my Mom's crushes but here she saw Louis Strauss, same with Emily Blunt as Kitty Oppenheimer, even Gary Oldman as Harry Truman, I loved that scene. It feels fresh to watch it even after all the hype is gone. We went to see it twice in theaters, which is not normal for me. Later I saw Barbie on HBO Max and it was all right, it's a pretty fun comedy with admirable production design, I liked the roles of Ryan Gosling's Ken and Will Ferrel's Exec, I loved Kate McCinnon's rare Barbie, I didn't notice the movie to be very "woke" or "anti-men" as I expected, but I can respect Greta Gerwig (who deserved an Oscar nomination for best director) for making the most successful film directed by a woman. Btw, huge fellow Star Wars fan here, I relate to that feeling about the LEGO's, it is what made me a fan as a kid, thanks to the games.

The one thing that will be worrying is that studios might learn all the wrong lessons from the Barbenheimer event and embarrassed themselves in trying so obvious to replicate the hype

They tried that shortly after with the recent Paw Patrol and Saw movie. The name they came up with was Saw Patrol. That didn't catch on (obviously).

Two great movies in one weekend. Something that can only happen once in a blue moon. I might have caught on to them long after the hype went down but these two equally stand on their own two feet and are what I would say the yin and Yang of stellar blockbuster films. We got one movie that’s a comedy and part musical sort of comes off like your typical rom com in the advertisement but actually has a lot of heart and is very poignant and character driven. The other is also character driven but is mainly a drama that is as unsettling and somber as it is thought provoking. We need both. These are the types of movies that Hollywood needs and is more than capable of doing more of.

I think one of the reasons Barbenheimer was so popular was because they were polar opposites but actually DIDN'T have opposing demographics. I think it's the same reason Everything Everywhere All At Once was so popular, why films like Knives Out and Dune are popular. People are hungry for unique movies. We are tired of the homogeneous approach to movies. We're tired of sequels and reboots. Yes things like Dune and Barbie are based on existing properties, but they have a unique story to tell and a strong identity. Barbenheimer is representative of the fact that modern movie-goers are capable of appreciating different genres. If you take the time and put trust into the artists to create something worth seeing, then people will want to see it. Don't let the studios squeeze every ounce of creativity and passion out of everything. Let artists make art.

I'm somebody in the minority that likes Barbie more than Oppenheimer both still love both movies. Barbie is one of the literal best movies ever made and has a tone of heart can't believe it was a year ago already. Greta Gerwig deserves to get a Best Director and Best Picture Oscar someday!

I loved the memes that came with barbenhimer like it was actually good, the movies however : Barbie wasn't my cup of tea (i don't have the emotional connection to barbie because i am a guy ) , it was alright. Oppenheimer however was just great, one of my favourite movies ever, the fact that i understood what the real Oppenheimer went through in 3 hours, his life changed after the Nuclear bomb was created. In conclusion , i think Barbie was alright and Oppenheimer was just great, a top 15 movie for me. Great Video mate 👍

While I do love Oppenheimer the one thing I do hate that every western movie about WW2 do is the fact Japan was guiltless & that they didn't deserve to get nuked. Sorry as someone who has read countless historical books & even accounts on the Pacific war, what Japan did during ww2 its even worse than sickening yet the US govt goes out of its way to make people sad when they themselves know what Japan did.

Although a lovely organic, cultural moment, it shows that the only films being made and are popular are Biopics Films made by huge/ iconic directors IP/ nostalgic material Although Barbie was a deep and meaningful film that was beautiful in a multi facaded way, it did bank on nostalgia and an iconic character. Also the marketing a usual goes again the actual film, reminds me of the Lorax, all about saving the planet yet had a deal with McDonald’s and made single use plastic toys.

Idk a lot of biopics flop/are hit and miss. Although it would be amazing if an indie film would be part of the phenominon. But im just happy it's not another sequelnor part of a multiverse by two directors who clealry adore cinema

First round I came out unexpectedly loving Barbie while triggered by Oppenheimer. Mainly because of how little it criticized or shown the "impact" of his actions. So many people coming out seeing him as an American hero rather than a cautionary tale, which angered me, especially with the current political context. I want to give it the film a second chance some day.
@msk1170

Oppenheimer was haunted for the rest of his life by what he’d helped bring into the world. The movie is from his perspective so the guilt he felt was definitely a criticism. Again being from his perspective he wasn’t there to see the destruction and loss of life we shouldn’t see it either. Later on we see him watching a film of the destruction and he’s clearly upset by what he sees.

Shorts are the worst things on KZbin and you seem to have 5 per day, so I'm out. It's entirely plausible that this is why your subscription rate is so low.
