This is so interesting- my homeschooled kids do a ton of groups, playdates, drama classes etc. Parents should make the effort to ensure their kid has all the opportunities they want when it comes to socialising.
@ASmith-jn7kf
@ASmith-jn7kf 10 ай бұрын
Why? Getting together with others often is distracting, can open your children up to bad experiences and the possibility of good, of getting sick, and of teaching them to care too much what people think like other kids. Everyone homeschools for different reasons but to me I love seeing that my kids are growing into people that do not care about many of the things I cared about and certain things don't even come into their mind that are insecurities of mine. As they get older and their personalities and characters are developed more I can definitely understand if they want to be around people making that happen but if not, then okay. Many people like to be alone, I was not homeschooled and I like to be alone and many school children are anti-social.
@cdeshaw1986
@cdeshaw1986 8 ай бұрын
@@ASmith-jn7kf So if your kid is anti social the answer is to lean into it and not make them be social at the cost of their education? Seems like nurturing to me. How will they ever learn anything or grow with this avoidant attitude? genuinely asking.

@@ASmith-jn7kf Many people like to be alone because of their phones and tiktok, not because it's a natural thing. I believe you're worsening the problem by doing that.
@bondvabond
@bondvabond 3 ай бұрын
@@ASmith-jn7kfI understand this reasoning and that this is what you feel is best for your kids, but this is a fundamentally flawed way of thinking and will lead to anti-social adults afraid of confrontation and the fear of what others think will hit them WORSE. Humans are a fundamentally social species. The parts that make life worth living are also primarily social things, like family, friends, romantic partners and SHARING our passions with others. Not allowing children the space or time to socialize might seem good here in the now, but children are not going to live at home their whole lives. Eventually, they’ll need to work and move out. At that point, nearly everybody around them has decades of experience socializing, whereas these children do not have the necessary skills to cope with the real world. They become outcasts, struggle with severe social anxiety and struggle to make friends or understand other people’s boundaries. Nobody wants to see their kid get sick, care about what others think or undergo other bad experiences, but these are unfortunately fundamental parts of the human experience we all need to undergo at some point or another in order to develop into well adjusted adults. Trying to block that might seem like a kind thing to do, but it is quite the opposite.

There are plenty of people with social anxiety BECAUSE of schooling, too. My dad was extremely social in school, but now he's reclusive. Being homeschooled, I actually get a lot of time to think about decent behaviour, kind things, and what to say. I read my Bible and get to prepare and perfect the next interaction before it even happens, so that everyone walks away from it happy. Staying calm and being honest are very important. Everyone can detect honesty and it is very admirable, it can relax a conversation immediately. I hope you can enjoy your social interactions soon, too. 🙂👍

She’s right. I was homeschooled my entire life, and i had no idea why so many actually nice kids wanted to be friends with me, but i realized i really didn’t care if they were popular or not, i just cared if they were nice. I would never get upset if there was a “mean girl” in the friend group, because my emotional maturity was so far beyond my age, i didn’t see them as a higher up just because they were a bully, i honestly just saw them as immature. I’d make SO many nice, honest friends, and i still do now (i’m a homeschooled freshman) also, she’s right on the fact that if i was talking to you, that was because I WANTED TOO. The only downside of homeschool is that i developed EXTREME social anxiety, but thats not everyone.

Back in high school, I had a crush on a co-worker who was a year ahead of me. She was home schooled until grade 12, came to my high school for the final year. By social standards set in my brain, I had made peace that we would just be friends, given how devastatingly beautiful she was(and of course by social standards, not just my own). I spent a lot of time with her, bike rides, hanging out etc... Let every single cue fly over my head. She was so obviously interested in me, but I had been conditioned to ignore that possibility to the Nth degree. She ended up moving away during college, and to her I guess I was always that oblivious friend she had a crush on. Wild learning experience in retrospect.

That’s what so great about Classical Conversations! Classical Conversations people leave a like on this comment! “CC” is a homeschool co-op that lets kids have a community day where they make presentations or have class discussions. Unlike a normal classroom, it’s not just the teacher talking, by high school senior students lead most of the subjects and throughout middle and high school homeschoolers talk among themselves about the topic. It’s awesome, I just graduated from it. I had to write a 20 page senior thesis and defend it in front of a panel of judges in front of an audience. It’s a brilliant curriculum and community that teaches great things in great ways.

To be fair, she is clearly an extrovert 😂 I am introverted, and would have preferred to be homeschooled through high school. I probably would have finished early out of my own initiative and been able to start working and exploring real life earlier, instead of being stuck in classrooms with weird people for a decade of my life. Also, there are plenty of homeschooling programs that allow for more peer interaction on a weekly basis than you would get doing everything with a parent at home. It’s not black and white, and every kid is different.

I tried homeschooling on myself after I left private school (cause let’s be for real, private school is kind of a scam, and this was after public school too) and oh my god I just couldn’t do it for the life of me, constantly being around my family (besides doing some outside stuff) was NOT good for me.

For those of you debating whether homeschooling would make your child more or less social, please remember that there are both social and antisocial homeschooled kids and social and antisocial public school kids. It might just be down to the individual and what works best for them. Everyone is different.

I'm graduating this year, and I've been homeschooled since 6th grade. There are so many homeschool communities to join. People think homeschoolers are always shy, they're not. Some have a shy personality, and that can't be changed and that's totally ok. But to say that all homeschoolers are like that is just not true.

I'm in 10th grade, and have been homeschooled since 3rd grade. Usually the only time I leave the house is to go to a homeschool co-op on Wednesday, and then church on Sunday. Other than that, its just grocery shopping. So, when I see someone outside of my family, I could literally talk to them for about an hour.

As a black kid who went to a primarily white school shit was tragic and white people no matter how much we explain it won't understand why beyond the bullying. Yea white kids talking shit and making you feel like less of a person is shit but also as a person who didn't have smart parents i didn't know shit about my culture or how to take care of myself bc my parents never really taught me that stuff and they weren't really actually raising me.

homeschooling doesn’t have to be like this. if you want to make friends you need to put the effort in. same goes for public school. you aren’t going to automatically make friends unless you put yourself out there. i am homeschooled and i have many friends that i have met through different activities. (theater, ballet class, art class, etc.) there was a period of my homeschooled life where i felt very lonely. once i started to put an effort into socializing i made many friends. homeschooling doesn’t have to be isolating. if you’re homeschooled and feel alone i promise you it gets better just try to really put yourself out there. don’t be afraid. ❤

Bro same tbh there’s probably a lot more that you can do if you’re homeschooled like with school there’s gonna be a lot of clubs a lot of things but what if you just don’t wanna do them with homeschooling it’s not like you’re restricted to one school and me personally if I didn’t like something that I was doing, I would not interact with people as much and I can see that definitely would happen more at school and like when you’re homeschooled you can do whatever it’s not the same at a school

Heyyy! Homeschooler here. One thing I’ll say about being homeschooled is it reallllyyy prepared me well for adult life. Like the ability to just be cool with anyone no matter their age, knowing how to manage myself, understanding my learning style and how I operate, are serving me soooo well. I know a lot of people my age have a hard time adjusting into the life of having to make the effort to make friends instead of just being around them at school and stuff like that but tbh being homeschooled I kinda missed that step. It was always an effort to go out and socialize. Now I’m a huge homebody introvert so I like the excuse to be by myself lolol but adult life feels so normal in that way

Extroversion is a personality trait, you can be extroverted, but not well socialized and vice versa - a well socialized introvert. Homeschooling doesn't mean you can't socialize with others afterwards
@leoxd7029

@@fastec5 that has nothing to do with homeschooling and everything with being insecure about talking. This often happens when people do nothing except play video games in their off time instead of hitting the gym or doing things that actually are real that they enjoy. Saying this as someone who played video games most of his teenage years in his time off. But when I hit the gym regularly and orientated myself in life, I went from quiet dude to socially completely secure and capable.

My son is being homeschooled for the fourth year now. He has some problems (ASD1) with extreme anxiety and he has had to watch his mothers health go in decline while he grows up. We make the days simple and use more real world applications for experiance and explination. I've learned he is VERY hands on and unless you know what to look for, he appears and acts like a normal child, and is rather intelligent as well, but only if it is a subject that interests him. We had a problem with the local school as it is one of those country school and if you don't play sports for their teams or in their marching band, then they don't care about you or the bullying that takes place as they're going to protect their stars. Other parents have had issues. We would like to move but we really like our apartment location, neighbors, and being out in the country.

I’ve been homeschooled my whole life and last year I started 7th grade and I went to my local public school, and it was the first time I had ever gone to a school. I live in a very small town so I knew a few ppl or atleast knew of them and it’s a 3A school so it’s small lol. But the first week it was very hard but bc I had been so social it was very easy to get new friends bc o also have an extremely bubbly personality, but everyone wanted to know me bc I have always been raised in Christ and to be kind always. So now I am much more popular thank I ever thought I could be. I look back now and I can see that God really had his arms wrapped around me throughout the whole journey,. And I do believe that I have helped so many ppl just by listening and praying for them and being a friend to everyone bc I do truly believe that there are only two groups of ppl in the world, your friends and the friends you have yet to meet. No one is our enemy except for the devil. But I do believe that being homeschooled until 7th grade has helped me be the person I am today and I thank god for all the blessings he has givin me and how I can see his fingerprints everywhere and I can help others see them to. I hope my story can help someone.❤🥰
