Here’s one idea. Every Saturday at 3 o’clock there is no live football shown in this country. So why not make a deal with bbc or itv to broadcast a gallagher premiership game every week at that time. Even if it makes you less money the growth it could make for premiership rugby could be huge. Also there’s Monday night football for the premier league, so we need the same in rugby. Friday nights are ideal because most big football games aren’t shown on Fridays in this country and Fridays also allows people to go to the games or watch the games and get drunk and not worry about waking up early for work the next day. And he’s alcohol is a big selling point of rugby and match going experience for anyone who doesn’t like that

Best idea is the old Trafford one. Definitely when there’s three 6 nations home games move an England game to old Trafford. Preferably not always the Italy one but probably will be lol. Scotland could do the same by moving one to Glasgow and France to quite a few places, maybe Lille or Strasbourg if they want to grow the game.

The how to make rugby better section sounds like Rugby League to me. Reduce the players, uncontested scrums, don't bother with the line out.
@jakeclough8090 Жыл бұрын
First one there is a case. Second two are absolute NOs, scrums don’t even take that long and lineouts are good as well. And they’re the most intriguing aspects to new fans, when you see Americans react to the sport for the first time, those are the two things they’re most intrigued by, can’t get rid of them, just speed them up which they are doing right now quite well

I mean you can introduce all these kids experiences and fan things but I don’t think it’s what makes the impact. I mean when I was a kid just kicking the ball about around twickenham was fun but going to the games and their local clubs is what wins the kids over. But watching full 80 minute games aren’t for kids and neither is punditry. Kids usually just watch the highlights if they don’t go in person and then seem to get longer attention spans in the teens and more interested in all the tactics rather than just highlights, I find at least. Football has no kids or fan entertainment and the pundits wear suits and it does way better and it’s for a couple of reasons. One, the crowds at football are better. Introduce some chants personalised to the clubs, introduce songs personalised to the clubs pre the game and add in standing sections at the club games at least. That makes the atmosphere and makes people want to go. As for punditry people don’t care what they wear, they care what’s said and the entertainment. There’s no wonder carragher, Neville, Keane, Micah richards etc all do well. An excellent balance of comedy, saying it brutally as it is and genuine old analysis. Most rugby pundits aren’t very likeable. I’d be quite happy to never see dallaglio or Woodward on my screens again. Wilkinson is a legend but a bit boring. Guys like O’driscoll and Ben Kayser are just more likeable and more interesting to listen to and seem more passionate and upbeat as well, although maybe that’s just their teams right now doing that lol. And when you have the likes of flatman in commentary whos quite funny or Jonathan Davies in the wales games who gets very frustrated, they’re the best to listen to, insight plus entertainment and passion

Look I'm not interested in hearing about these well spoken pundits traveI woes, just kidding no offence hask love you, and Mike you are a legend BUT I want to hear limited groans of guys like Matt Fagerson, Sam Underhill, other rough and tumble forwards at the current warfare coalface. Lets hear more from these guys at the breakdown, being Scottish and superior at rugby compared to England given results in the last few years is there any plan to try and copy Irelands Model?

I think the European league thing etc is just too much change personally. People don’t want change. Like I love tindalls enthusiasm but what’s the point of two European leagues. He was saying they’re equal or something so how do you split it between British and Irish teams. Do some English go on one and some in the other. And what happens to the South Africans. As an English fan aim more than happy with just having our own league and improving on that, and I watch the urc as well but it is its own separate thing which is good. There’s more than enough fans and players in the country to sustain and English league, it’s just not marketed brilliantly and again atmosphere isn’t great. And plus if you did do one big league, what English teams do you have. All the current ones but none in Birmingham, in Leeds or Liverpool? Missing out on potential. I’d just keep the current system and move towards the french model of two leagues with more equally spread revenue. Of course that means getting better broadcast deals and that’s not done by improving the quality of rugby necessarily it’s about improving the hype and marek eating and atmosphere of the league games

They are always moaning about the profile of the game. Participation numbers, general interest. The hypocrisy This is supposed to be a rugby pod. After a weekend of superb games. They are talking about this aul shite. When's the last time they reviewed a round of games??
@lnortonful Жыл бұрын
Surely one of the biggest issues about the game is that it’s too complicated? Talking of suggestions on body weights for teams or how to make the “day out” better before fixing the game is futile. I agree with reducing the number of people on the pitch. 14 or 13 players tops. Remove the jackle. The breakdown is a nause and anyone who is watching rugby for the first time never understands what’s going on at the breakdown. Make a tackle and ruck over if you want to turn it over. Also the knee injuries it would save would be worth it. Give a choice between a scrum or a quick tap from knock ons. A time limit should also be included in that to make a decision. More teams to tap and go quickly rather than waiting for scrums. Leave scrums for attacking opportunities. Also have a maximum resets on scrums. Allow one reset for any accidental slips and then it’s a pen either way. Take away so much power from the TMO’s. The ref should make all decisions. The ref can ask the TMO to look at an incident and if they can’t find clear evidence to show the ref then the ref needs to make a decision himself and get in with it. Get rid of the over review of video “evidence” which takes ten hours to decide whether there is a try or not. TMO can review in game tackles if the ref asks them to but the ref should review a small screen at the the next stoppage as to whether action needs to be taken.
