When I was a kid and the traveling fair came to town i was fascinated by the showman's dancing hen, he had a hen that danced on a sheet of metal while he played the Sailors Hornpipe on a recorder, little did I know the metal sheet was heated and the poor bird was hopping up and down to prevent its feet from bursting into flames, well I thought I would never see the like of it again, I was wrong, watching Steve Smith bat is akin to that dancing hen.

Love the little vignettes into the kind of people you meet at grade cricket. Club cricket in India has their own variants: the uncle who comes every week to escape his wife and kids and doesn't care if he gets to play or not, the guy in his 30s who still thinks he could get an IPL contract if he does well enough, the old guy who always loves to remind people that he hit Kapil Dev for a six back in 1995 or whenever...
@amplicated1236 күн бұрын
That last version we also have in club cricket in England - lots of dudes in their 30s and 40s who grew up in India and "played state cricket with MS Dhoni" or someone similar! They are usually very good, though, for the level I play at (the very lowest level imaginable)

@jehanariyaratnam28746 күн бұрын
This was an absolute belting. They let the game drift on day 1 when pant and reddy were smashing Lyon around on a green pitch. That changed the momentum, and the Indian quicks were just too good on a pitch with seam movement in. And we all know India go big on pitches that flatten out into roads- kolkata 2001, Sydney 2004 for example. This has been coming, Aus batting has looked vulnerable for a while, they were exposed by shamar Joseph, by Pakistan at times last year and even in the one day series this year. Marnus needs to be dropped, put smith up to 3 and bring Inglis in at 6, he's the only batsman in form, and once mcsweeney keeps failing at the top of the order bring in Bancroft.

Earlier Australians teams were feared because they didn't seem to have any weaknesses, not obvious weaknesses like the old cliche, but actual weaknesses. They had players making bulk runs and the bowling was ruthless. One of those things has declined and we all know which one that is. Warner's exit hasn't helped. He's a player team's feared. Without him the first 4 Aussie batsmen just don't give any bowling side a headache. From Head onwards the batting side of things becomes dangerous again. Where is Australia's Rachin Ravindra? #asktgc

The only reason for my mental health issues is that Australia has been mediocre for quite some time, including the last few BGT series in India and in Aus, and during the WC 2023, YET, and YET, they FUCKING STOLE THE WC right under our eyes in broad daylight! I hope Bumrah, Kohli, Rohit, and all others are still fuming at that. Rohit and Kohli might not get to take the proper revenge as they will retire before the next WC. So I hope they see this BGT as their only chance. But then again, it could be just me. They might not be as emotionally damaged as me and have their mental health in check. I am hoping not...but let's hope.

I'm just glad we weren't playing NZ imagine how much we would have lost by playing them! Australia's problems still stem from Warner's retirement. Australia just needs a decent opening stand to take the pressure off Marnus and Smith. McSweeney is in form and on his home deck next game. If he and Usman get some decent runs on the board the teams fortunes will turn around. Only one month ago India got their asses kicked and have now turned it all around in one game .....India is suddenly great again. How quickly we turn on our teams in India and Australia.
